alwahi··on Google is shutting down Tables, its Airtable rival
at this point, it is extremely hazardous to use any google project other than those having billions of users (just to be safe)....
alwahi··on Bending Spoons acquires Vimeo for $1.38B
oh the monsters that killed evernote
alwahi··on I have left Branch and am no longer involved with Nova Launcher
Nova is really good and I used it for a long time. I think it was the first launcher I purchased.

It sucks and there is nothing anyone can do really, but maybe you'd consider making a brand new launcher?

alwahi··on Calling your boss a dickhead is not a sackable offence, UK tribunal rules
did we have to go to court to figure this out?
alwahi··on Databricks is raising a Series K Investment at >$100B valuation
i don't think that it is possible to raise a 100 billion without name dropping ai in every sentence in every meeting you have with a potential investor....
alwahi··on Databricks is raising a Series K Investment at >$100B valuation
for laypeople this is like the, "what does salesforce even do" meme, but the explanation is a million times more ridiculous....
alwahi··on Apple and Amazon will miss AI like Intel missed mobile
not to be a contrarian but i think apple will be the only tech giant standing after the inevitable ai winter, simply because they were too stupid to figure out how to integrate ai with their ecosystem.
alwahi··on 9 Years of "Learning to Code" and I Still Couldn't Build a To-Do App
i am almost the exact same but its more like 20 years for me. its not like i can't code, but i have never built anything. i have used python for my grad studies so i have some level of comfort with it and can do data related tasks to some degree in it. but i have never built anything.

there is this huge like "potential well" that becomes almost impossible to leap over.

alwahi··on Nvidia Tilus: A Tile-Level GPU Kernel Programming Language
okay, I am not a systems level programmer but I am currently learning c with the aim of doing some gpgpu programming using Cuda etc., what is a tile level gpu kernel programming language? and how is it different from something like cuda?

I know i can ask a llm or search on google, but i was hoping someone in the community could explain it in a way i could understand.

alwahi··on OpenAI Progress
there isn't any real difference between 4 and 5 at least.

edit - like it is a lot more verbose, and that's true of both 4 and 5. it just writes huge friggin essays, to the point it is becoming less useful i feel.

alwahi··on ACM Transitions to Full Open Access
what I'm seeing is that profs in the gulf countries are collaborating with profs and groups in third world countries where they are throwing money at the profs in the third world, who are doing all the work but don't have the funds to get published in these "prestigious journals"(its called the third world for a reason), so all these people get authorship for free.
alwahi··on ACM Transitions to Full Open Access
without opening the link, any idea what he is upto nowadays?
alwahi··on SIMD within a register: How I doubled hash table lookup performance
okay wait, i thought hash table lookup was already O(1)...
alwahi··on Ask HN: What is so good about MCP servers?
having it in your cv would net you a good raise?
alwahi··on The hunt for a perfect laptop continues
ROG Zephyrus G14 2025 with the 5070Ti, comes as close to it as is possible imo. If you want more battery life and/or don't want to game then you can literally run it on the 890M and disable the Nvidia GPU, as easy as never installing the driver for it in the first place (I am imagining you as using Linux)....

MacBook Air M4 is sufficient for almost everything (except maybe gaming), but that depends on how much you want to get caught up in Apple's ecosystem.

alwahi··on The radix 2^51 trick (2017)
how to do this for large multiplications instead?

alwahi··on Beam has raised $9.5M to reinvent the browser
which is pretty retarded, considering Beaker has done that for free... (haven't read the article, I just want to flame wannabes)
alwahi··on Email from Jeff Bezos to employees
I sat through a talk by Jeff Bozos where he said the same thing, that to register his company he was talking on the phone to his lawyer and the lawyer asked what he wanted his company name to be and Jeff said Cadabra (telling the audience like Abra Cadabra) whereupon the Lawyer said Cadaver which made Bozo develop cold feet.
alwahi··on I thought I would have accomplished a lot more today and also before I was 35

alwahi··on Open Problems in Robotics
this was so apt and it makes so much sense. a bulb just went on in my head. thanks so much for your simple and precise explanation.
alwahi··on Open Problems in Robotics
sorry for sidetracking your answer but what actually does convex mean in the context of optimization. I remember looking at a book called convex optimization.

Your statement that > Motion planning is very much non-convex,

suggests to me that you are very much talking about the same thing. I understand convexity as in a shape. Why is convex good and concave bad in terms of optimization?

I don't want you to dumb down the answer too much as I am a trained Mechanical Engineer but then my major isn't math. Hope you understand :)
