alistproducer2··on Income, Poverty and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2016
Why would you. Everyone is so in the money already, who cares if you get a 10% down day when you're up 100% yoy? Put another way, everyone is playing with the houses money so why not risk it?
alistproducer2··on Income, Poverty and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2016
For context, the survey covers 2015-16. The gains are from the last administration.
alistproducer2··on Ask HN: Is CoinBase Support Totally MIA?
Yep. they took $400 from me and I couldn't get any help. I blocked them from withdrawing my bank account and closed the account.
alistproducer2··on Indiana Purging Voters Using Software That’s 99% Inaccurate
Anyone with half a brain knows that these purges are designed to advantage a side not protect the system. I read an article the other day that stated that some America's voting system had essentially been compromised on many levels. It made me think about why so many of our polls have, in the last few years, been so off the mark. Now I'm beginning to think it's not because the polling models suddenly don't work. It is quite possibly something more nefarious than that.
alistproducer2··on Record surge in atmospheric CO2 seen in 2016
>"Today's CO2 concentration of around 400 ppm exceeds the natural variability seen over hundreds of thousands of years,"[0]

That's the part that opens and shut's the "debate" surrounding human-cause climate change. When you have that much data, combined with the fact that we build and use machines that spew carbon there can not be any other explanation for the Co2 levels. Case closed.

alistproducer2··on How the Kodi Box Took Over Piracy
I would totally support micro-payments to content producers as opposed to the status quo. Until then.....Kodi all day baby! Cut the cord and never going back!

I, however, didn't buy one pre-packaged. I did it the "hard" way and installed it on a Rpi3. If only I could play netflix on it, it would be perfect.

alistproducer2··on Ask HN: Would people prefer HN articles to open in a new tab? (target=“_blank”)?
I like being able to chose so no.

alistproducer2··on Buy a Sofa Online? Wayfair Is Counting on It
Who are these people buying sofas, mattresses, pillows etc online? Bedframes, end tables, storage? Sure. Amazon knows what's up and realizes it has to have some form of brick-and-mortar to sell goods that [normal] humans will never be comfortable buying sight unseen.
alistproducer2··on Opaque and sky high bills are breaking Americans, and our health care system
The "free market" is just a terrible solution to providing health care. There are some cases where it can work, but as a general solution it doesn't. Roads are the same way. Does a private, market solution (toll roads) work sometimes? Sure. Could we build our entire network of roads using tolls. Of course not.

In a way this is a bit of a cop out because no one can/will up end the entire system. One thought experiment I like to run is what happens to prices if we use to government to subsidize supply of services? Provide free schooling and other government benefits for people willing to train to become medical workers. Take the rural dentist crisis. IMO the government should be training people who live in those communities to become dentists for free.

We have limited examples in places like Cuba. I'm not saying that full on socialism is a magic bullet, but I think smartly applied it works better for markets like healthcare.

alistproducer2··on GM exec calls Elon Musk claim of Level 5 driving without lidar 'not possible'
With the current state of computer vision and AI, I would agree with GM. There's a lot of fast and loose talk about what AI can and can't do, but the reality is we're not even close to having general intelligence which would, at least in a rudimentary form, be necessary to safely navigate a car using only optical recognition.
alistproducer2··on Fraud Scandals Sap China’s Dream of Becoming a Science Superpower
My propaganda alarm is going off pretty loudly with this article.
alistproducer2··on We fired our top talent. Best decision we ever made
Rick was not managed - at all. Rick became a monster because no one at the management layer was doing their job. If you're letting coders write custom tools instead of procuring where possible, that's management's fault. The list of mismanagement goes on and on. Sure Rick was a douchebag. Anyone who has spent any time in a cs program has met a potential Rick. The fact that you fostered one while he almost blew up your project is your failure, not his.

Edit: also if 90% of his code was able to be thrown out, then I don't think Rick was ever the super star that you or he thought he was.

alistproducer2··on Ask HN: Why Isn't the Construction of CRUD Web UIs 90% Automated?
Humanity has ever been known for homogeneity. Different people think differently about how to solve problems.
alistproducer2··on Show HN: An API for filling out PDF forms
Thanks for sharing that. I think using one's job to identify potential markets is a great idea.
alistproducer2··on Show HN: An API for filling out PDF forms
To the OP: Can I ask what your process was? A project like this obviously takes a lot of time. How certain were you that you had a product people wanted before embarking on the dev?
alistproducer2··on Britain announces 15 years in prison for reading banned literature
I'm amazed at how totalitarian the u.k is and, more surprising, how the population provides such little resistance.

alistproducer2··on PlainJS – Vanilla JavaScript Repository
I went to the site and I'm a little unclear of what its purpose is. Is it supposed to be a way to learn vanilla JS?
alistproducer2··on A 400-year story of progress – How America became the world’s biggest economy
Why is this article on the front page? This is just troll bait.
alistproducer2··on Ask HN: Sell my startup for $14M because I can't raise $2M?
If you come away with several millions, you could live comfortably just off the interest on a 30 year note. Take the money and start another company with the interest. Don't be greedy. You could easily end up with nothing.
alistproducer2··on Ask HN: C# DocGen like Javadoc?
This was the solution I went with. As you mentioned, It is incredibly slow.
alistproducer2··on Ask HN: Is it possible to be an amateur freelancer programmer?
Not really. I got freelance jobs when I was at about your level.
alistproducer2··on Show HN: A library to record and intercept JavaScript at runtime
The link is completely different than it was when I commented. That doesn't mean the criticism of my comment are invalid, but this is pretty weird.
alistproducer2··on Show HN: A library to record and intercept JavaScript at runtime
"Polymorphism" is being used incorrectly here. Please see here [0] for a good explanation.

alistproducer2··on The Windows Shutdown crapfest (2006)
Wow. And I thought things were bad at my fortune 5. That is insane. You should seriously write a blog (or maybe a book?) about that.
alistproducer2··on Man Who Refused to Decrypt Hard Drives Still in Prison After Two Years
CP is a wedge tool for politicians. Want to get around the Constitution while having public opinion on your side? Use a pedophile. I don't have a problem sending people to jail who produce the stuff, but the idea that I could put images in someone's computer, call the cops, and get them put away didn't sit right with me.

This case in particular is troublesome. There are lots of bogus claims by the prosecution like being able to confirm the CP via hashes despite the content being encrypted. If they truly had a strong case against this guy, they'd go to trial.

alistproducer2··on Consistent Selenium Testing in Python
I've been working with selenium a lot at work recently. There are lots of little nuances to grok if you want your tests to run completely deterministic: especially on a JavaScript-heavy site.
alistproducer2··on ESPN Football Analyst Walks Away, Disturbed by Brain Trauma on Field
I'm in my second year of not watching/supporting the NFL for just this reason. Add the that the treatment of Colin Kaepernick and I'm not sure I'll look back. I'd be lying if I said I won't watch the super bowl, but my days of watching endless hours and going to games are likely over unless and until they make the players take off that ridiculous armor.
alistproducer2··on Ask HN: Hiding Bitcoin/blockchain related news from HN?
I wrote a chrome extension for just such a thing.
