alisson··on This App Trains You to See Farther
Here's a video of someone teaching them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRwXuRIR3Co

At 4m10s she shows the one I'm practicing the most now, training to focus. I like to do it one eye at a time, and then both. I don't aways use the thumb, I like to go to a park and do it between trees, when I'm on a bus I do it between the window's borders (because it's not transparent) and things out side.

Blink is very important to, try to remember to blink, so it's always lubricated enough. I tend to blink less when I'm on a computer, it's something I'm trying to work on.

I'll give it a few more months to see how it reflects on the eye doctor exam.

alisson··on This App Trains You to See Farther
This is cool! I being training my eyes using yoga exercises for about 2 months and I can really few the improvements by now. I'll test this app to see if it helps.

Somethings we get in front of a computer too much and your eyes begin to loose the ability to see things farther. It's all about training the muscles.

alisson··on Elasticsearch 1.0.0 released
Thanks for pointing that out, it will be really useful!

On ElasticSearch you have to update the whole document, no commands to manipulate them. You don't have commands like: $set, $addToSet, $pop, etc..

You need to have a good understanding of how tokenizers and analyzers work to be able to create good results for your data. I have difficulties matching documents with the exact title being searched for. On MongoDB that just works, on ElasticSearch you need to configure it.

ElasticSearch has some advantages and MongoDB others. I think they are great together. One for storage and the other for searching.

alisson··on RocksDB – A persistent key-value store for fast storage environments
I'm not sure but I think HDD are better at sequential operations than SSD (which performs better at random operations). Some people say MySQL performs better on a high speed HDD than on a SSD.
alisson··on The drab stupidity of Soylent
Just think of Soylent as an alternative and not the only way to go. Soylent could help bring food to areas where people starve to death. It could be a good alternative to take when camping and hiking for days. And many others... People already eat a lot of crap food (like McDonald's), Soylent could be a better crap food. I wouldn't take it unless really necessary. I think it's a really good idea, but I wouldn't recommend to anyone who have good food available.
alisson··on Ask HN: How do you manage your bookmarks?
I've being using http://delicious.com/ ever since, works fine for me.
alisson··on Pythex: a Python regular expression editor
It would be nice if named groups were supported. Something like: (?P<protocol>https) Being captured like: protocol: https instead of 1: https

Nice work!! :)

alisson··on Tell HN: DropBox spamming?
As far as I know, your friend actually invited you so he/she could get some extra space. They don't do it automatically, you need to put your friend's email there or import your contacts from your webmail.
alisson··on Poll: Will keyboards still be around in 20 years?
Can you imagine work on a environment where everybody is speaking to the PC? I'll be chaos :S If the keyboard is going to be substituted, please, it need to be something silence! Telepathy would be great :)
