alexcasalboni··on Amazon Machine Learning: use cases and a real example in Python
Update: for those of you who feel like some practice on a real AWS environment would help, here is my hands-on Laboratory.

alexcasalboni··on Amazon Machine Learning: use cases and a real example in Python
Exactly, I've chosen Python for its simplicity, although I feel that boto3 somehow lacks that pythonic style we all love.

Anyways, I'd love to see how other developers are using AWS ML on Java, Node.js, Ruby, PHP, etc, and I hope that my explanation of basic ML concepts will help them as well.

alexcasalboni··on HN Cheaters: Catch me if you can
I guess there might be some manual work by HN moderators. They must have a way to help you get to the homepage and also to mark you as a cheater/spam. Don't you think?
alexcasalboni··on Baidu's traffic hijacked to DDoS GitHub.com
You can still read the whole article from the homepage: http://insight-labs.org/
alexcasalboni··on Angular 2 supports server-side rendering and isomorphic web apps
True that. Having some stats about how many people today use AngularJS with and without Node.js as server-side would be really interesting!
alexcasalboni··on Apple Just Canceled the Right Click
True, but without any right button or right "tap".
alexcasalboni··on PARCC testing in Colorado has disastrous first day
I can still see it.
alexcasalboni··on Super Cheap Data Backups with Amazon Glacier Storage
So true, that's amazingly cheap!

Still, you need tools and a real strategy for your backups in the Cloud: S3 and IAM will help as well! http://cloudacademy.com/blog/amazon-s3-vs-amazon-glacier-a-s...

alexcasalboni··on Apparently transparent – CSS3D HTML5 Experiment
True story. Too many hacks are needed for that: http://css-tricks.com/vertically-center-multi-lined-text/

alexcasalboni··on Pope Francis announces Scholas.Labs, a Vatican startup accelerator
I am Italian and somehow this made me laugh! 10 projects per year, nonprofit, and the goal seems to be improving education in the world. It really looks like a nice plan, but how do you think religion is involved in this?
alexcasalboni··on Russian Roulette written in #PHP
That's semantically correct.. but how do you spin again?

alexcasalboni··on Test shows big data text analysis inconsistent, inaccurate
Big data text analysis is an approach, not a method.

They merely showed that Latent Dirichlet Allocation is not the best method to solve the specific problem of classifying human language from unstructured text. New techniques will always come up to be more accurate and reproducible, and eventually become the new most used one. TopicMapping sounds promising. :)

alexcasalboni··on YouTube now defaults to HTML5 video
11% global support, so far.

alexcasalboni··on Comcast: Simulating shitty network connections so you can build better systems
Very nice.

How's this better/different than Crapify?

That's awesome, I didn't know about this draft at all! Still wondering how such a native feature hasn't been drafted within the first 25 years of web browsers. Any (un)official ETA?

"SQLite is not designed to compete with Oracle. SQLite is designed to compete with fopen()."

http://www.sqlite.org/whentouse.html

How about something towards the Cloud direction, like AWS RDS? MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL or Aurora might work better.

Nobody likes Markdown. And even who does, can't really use it.

alexcasalboni··on D is like native Python
It looks pretty cool! Do you happen to know any real website or webapp developed with D or vibe.d?
alexcasalboni··on 4 reasons why Docker could change the cloud computing scenario
The concept of Cloud Portability is really fascinating, but is it really enough to bring some standardization and uniformity in the DevOps community?
alexcasalboni··on Static Website Hosting, Storage and Content Delivery on AWS
Hi Andres, S3 is designed to scale up to very high request rates. However, if your workload exceeds 300 GET requests per second, as suggested by AWS, you can consider Amazon CloudFront for performance optimization.
