It would be great to add some more locations around the world.
If you add monitoring and alerts I would probably pay. Not that much as its already a corwded space, but I think a cheap alternative could get traction.
I wonder if its possible to have a business model of only charging when it alerts you to a site being down? E.g. we just alerted you to a site being down. Donate and we will do it again! Dont donate and I will delay my alerts by 1 hour next time!
Uber geeks may want to try something else, but for most people facebook works and thats what counts.
The thing that would allow growth of some networks would be an open id style profile API so that I can interact with users from social network X from within social network Y. But why would any leading social network adopt such an API?
Perhaps the most exciting use of WebGL will be novel interfaces on platforms like TVs and tablets, where smooth and intuitive interaction is key. I just hope WebGL makes it to these devices quickly!
This is not a dig at Google, indeed its much better than it used to be, its just that its a machine with defined rules and will therefore fall foul of tricks (even if the tricks keep changing).
This is why Goole need to be scared of Facebook, as Facebook looks likely to be the first business to successfully implement a human recommendation level into search.
Facebook is a great 'social tool' that helps people stay connected with real 'meat-space' friends. Twitter is for following celebrities and geek friends.
Twitter is no magic bullet to compete with Facebook.
I know from experience that image delivery times are significantly reduced using the get_serving_url method, so it could be a killer feature.
The hard bit will be that the cdn distributed URLs are not guessable, so you would need to communicate the cdn URL back to the app.
I think they are going to struggle to explain how to install it to small site owners. In my experience small site owners run a mile at the prospect of editing a DNS or nameserver record.
Not sure that response times from app engine are that nippy compared to a 'proper' CDN.
What would be cool would automatically distributing images via google's image serving CDN. You can use the get_serving_url method in app engine to return a CDN enabled url for any image in the blobstore. Its super fast and allows dynamic image resizing.
I guess getting the pricing right is key to working out demand.
