ako··on Vibe coding is mad depressing
Not all freelancers are good, sometimes you just ask these questions to understand how good the freelancer is.
ako··on NYC congestion pricing cuts air pollution by a fifth in six months
Usually diversity requirements don't come with lower competence requirements. They usually require people to be competent and then also equal opportunity. Or are you suggesting that all non-white non-male people are incompetent?
ako··on Vibe coding: Empowering and imprisoning
As an expert you can instruct the llm what to generate, so you’d get what you would write by hand, just faster.
ako··on The "confident idiot" problem: Why AI needs hard rules, not vibe checks
Maybe it’s just the fact that many models are trained by americans? I’ve seen great improvements in answers by asking it to “tone it down, answer like you’re British”.
ako··on Vibe coding: Empowering and imprisoning
Now imagine that tool in the hands of someone who knows how to build it the right way, and can instruct the LLM to generate the code in the right way. You get what you would have created yourself, but just much faster.
ako··on Vibe coding: Empowering and imprisoning
Isn't this the same problem as working on any large project you have no experience with? It takes time to understand the code base, but you can learn it by studying the source code. And LLMs can help you understand the code base, e.g. ask it to generate (mermaid) diagrams.
ako··on AI-Assisted Coding Killed My Joy of Programming
I have a background in coding (including assembly), worked on UX projects, as a technical architect, a product owner, and now a product manager in the last 30 years, so yes.
ako··on AI-Assisted Coding Killed My Joy of Programming
Far from mindless, just at a different abstraction level. What should the software do, what capabilities and features, how to slice it into small increments (product management work)? What user journeys, what should the screens look like (UX work)? What architecture and components, which libraries, what communication protocols, what layering, what kind of tests, what kind of data structure and data persistence (Architect/tech lead work)? For example, for the DSL syntax i'll have claude code suggest different options, and detail out one of the proposal i like best.
ako··on A new AI winter is coming?
Many of the things that LLMs will output can be validated in a feedback loop, e.g., programming. It's easy to validate the generated code with a compiler, unit tests, etc. LLMs will excel in processes that can provide a validating feedback loop.
ako··on A new AI winter is coming?
I think of LLMs like brains or CPUs. They're the core that does the processing, but needs to be embedded in a bigger system to be useful. Even if LLMs plateau, there will be a lot of development and improvement in the systems that use these LLM. We will be seeing a lot of innovation going forward, especially in systems that will be able to monetize these LLMs.
ako··on AI-Assisted Coding Killed My Joy of Programming
It reinspired me, the things that i can now pull off with AI would have died a slow death previously. I would have needed to do so much learning, research, debug, i would not have had the patience to complete it. Now i can finally build those things that i never had the time nor patience to do. Currently building my own language, claude code does an excellent job.
ako··on It’s been a very hard year
Actually, I already prefer AI to static training materials these days. But instead of looking for a static training material, I treated it like a coach.

Recently I had to learn SPARQL. What I did is I created an MCP server to connect it to a graph database with SPARQL support, and then I asked the AI: "Can you teach me how to do this? How would I do this in SQL? How would I do it with SPARQL?" And then it would show me.

With examples of how to use something, it really helps that you can ask questions about what you want to know at that moment, instead of just following a static tutorial.

ako··on It’s been a very hard year
But what if the AI generated course was actually good, maybe even better than the human generated course? Which one would you pick then?
ako··on It’s been a very hard year
AI is just a tool, like most other technologies, it can be used for good and bad.

Where are you going to draw the line? Only if it effects you, or maybe we should go back to using coal for everything, so the mineworkers have their old life back? Or maybe follow the Amish guidelines to ban all technology that threatens sense of community?

If you are going to draw a line, you'll probably have to start living in small communities, as AI as a technology is almost impossible to stop. There will be people and companies using it to it's fullest, even if you have laws to ban it, other countries will allow it.

ako··on Student perceptions of AI coding assistants in learning
Where is this perfect world you’re speaking of? Surely not the one we’re living in…
ako··on Implications of AI to schools
My son recently told me his teacher used him as an example for the class as someone who wrote a good piece himself. Teacher accused all the other students of using AI.

He also told me that he had in fact used AI, but asked AI multiple times to simplify the text, and he had entered the simplified version. He liked the first version best, but was aware his teacher would consider it written by AI.

Guess the teachers have already lost...

ako··on Three Years from GPT-3 to Gemini 3
Why does it matter? If you consider not just the people creating these hallucination, but also the people accepting them and using them, it must be billions and billions...
ako··on The Bitter Lesson of LLM Extensions
Unless claude decides a skill is needed, then it loads the additional details into the main context to use. It's basically lazy loading into main context.
ako··on The Bitter Lesson of LLM Extensions
Are you sure, i thought skill were loaded into the main context, unlike (sub)agents. According to Claude they're loaded into the main context. Do you have link?
ako··on Three Years from GPT-3 to Gemini 3
Humans can output serious amounts of unproven bullshit, e.g., 3000 incompatible gods and all the religions that come with them...
ako··on Three Years from GPT-3 to Gemini 3
Completely disagree, what i see agentic coding agents do in combination with LLMs is seriously mind-blowing. I don't care how much knowledge is compressed into an LLM. What is way more interesting is what it does when it misses some knowledge. I see it come up with a plan to create the knowledge by running an experiment (running a script, sometimes asking me to run a script or try something), evaluating the output, and then replan based on the output. Full Plan-Do-Check-Act. Finding answers systematically to things you don't know is way more impressive than remembering lots of stuff.
ako··on The privacy nightmare of browser fingerprinting
I read from too many different sources through aggregators like hackernews. With a network you'd probably still have too many subscriptions.

Also wonder if it will really work out, i open too many articles that are pretty bad when you start reading them. So i quit after 1 or 2 paragraphs.

Now if you get the first 2 paragraphs for free, contents writers will start to optimize for good first 2 paragraphs, and afterwards quality will drop. Also, many blog posts or news articles don't have more than 2 paragraphs of good content.

ako··on The senior population is booming. Caregiving is struggling to keep up
Oh, and the current generation will most likely be blamed for destroying most of the job market and opportunity for people to earn a living by pushing AI so much. There's always something to be blamed for.
ako··on The senior population is booming. Caregiving is struggling to keep up
Problem is that individuals often know what is right, but can't do the right thing because society as a whole is not collaborating. In a few years we will all be blamed for not taking action when it was clear climate change was going to cause big problems for humanity. There are many who are trying, but as a while society doesn't seem to be able to course correct, see the current disaster in Brazil.
ako··on Google boss says AI investment boom has 'elements of irrationality'
According to Hans Rosling correlation was more between education level of women and the number of children: the higher women are educated, the less children they decide to have.

Why do you care, if a human reviewed and edited it, someone filtered it to make sure it’s correct. It’s validated to be correct, that is the main point.

ako··on The Case That A.I. Is Thinking
No, it's more than information retrieval. The LLM is deciding what information needs to be retrieved to make progress and how to retrieve this information. It is making a plan and executing on it. Plan, Do, Check, Act. No human in the loop if it has the required tools and permissions.
