akasakahakada··on Uganda's surveillance state is built on national ID cards
FYI Japan is going to (in progrees) do the same shit.
akasakahakada··on [dead]
No one care about man being killed in war.
akasakahakada··on Japan's birth rate falls to a record low as the number of marriages also drops
But guess what, the Nation Population Institution said birth rate is going to rise and keep steady afterwards in 2023 without explanation. And everyone inside the gov believe this bs.

akasakahakada··on Mathematical Optimization for Cargo Ships
Think about this

Go players: Go is so difficult. So many options and constrain blah blah blah

AlphaGo: Oh yah?

akasakahakada··on 85% of People Want Global Ban on Single-Use Plastics
Of course transport 10 tons of paper product has zero energy consumption according to Law of Newtonian Physics. More weight, less energy. We successfully keep the ocean clean, but all turtles are dead by stopping ocean current with global warming.
akasakahakada··on Mathematical Optimization for Cargo Ships
Make me think of every shopowner or manager of local restaurants or something said they had headache planning schedule for part-time employees. Some even say that is the reason they are paid well. I thought, but why don't you just use some algorithms to solve it?

akasakahakada··on Underscores are stupid? Get a Japanese keyboard (2012)
Similar thing. To avoid my fingers fighting each other when pressing cut copy paste in Macbook, I almost bought those 20-key left hand gaming keyboard so that I can do them in a single keystroke.
akasakahakada··on If English was written like Chinese (1999)
> every Japanese person I have met complaints about the massive effort it took them to learn how to read and write

This stupid phenomenon is due to the fact that Japanese Gov decided to teach only arbitrarily 1000 kanji to school kids and this number decrease every 10 years.

https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%B8%B8%E7%94%A8%E6%BC%A2%E5...

You can see how stupid it is.

> People complain that kanji being used in the prefecture are not include in the list (no included so no obligation to teach in school) e.g.阪鹿奈岡熊梨阜埼茨栃媛, so the gov finally add those to the next revision.

While at the same time Chinese people are learning 3X more. No one ever complain about the difficulty of Chinese character after all.

akasakahakada··on &udm=14 – easy access to an AI-free Google search
But verbatim is not useful these days imo. Usually I rather accept that there doesn't exist such information than waste time in googling stuff.
akasakahakada··on Clever code is probably the worst code you could write (2023)
This is my choice. So easy to get lost in the sea of intermediate veriables inside a loop. If stuff can be rewriten in list comprehensive separately then I will do it.
akasakahakada··on Clever code is probably the worst code you could write (2023)
list-map-itemgetter is actually the fastest solution in Python. Should actually promote this.
akasakahakada··on Storing knowledge in a single long plain text file
Educate me if this is not reinventing the wheel of ymal, toml, xml, etc.
akasakahakada··on Ask HN: What are problems only Windows, macOS, or Linux has?
https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/74507/cut-paste-fi...
akasakahakada··on Ask HN: What are problems only Windows, macOS, or Linux has?
Mac: Hide every shit that is usable to the user. Copy and cut and paste is not functional without pressing the option key. How to show hidden folders? You never know until you google it actively.

Windows: Microsoft try too hard to make Win11 into shit. You got duo layer menu in right-click top bar, edge, settings, everywhere. Better stick with Win10.

Linux: You are not using supercomputer to forcast tomorrow's weather. You got better stuff to do besides debugging Linus desktop environment everyday. Skip it.

akasakahakada··on Is software getting slower faster than hardware getting faster?
It is incompetence. Everytime I optimize any oss library developed by some Googlers, the result is 20X performance boost still using plain Python. Compiling my optimized version by Cython can only gain 1.5X speedup.

Like, comparing my Numpy code to Numpy code written by other people, I don't know why mine can be so much faster. (https://github.com/hirasawakinko/Numpy-Done-Right)

akasakahakada··on Ask HN: What has good backward compatibility?
Mathematics. Your new theory need to be compatible with proven theories.
akasakahakada··on Apple M4 benchmarks suggest it is the new single-core performance champ

akasakahakada··on Ask HN: Why so many redundant click in Win11
I mean there are 999 layers of "more options" before the button "preference" show up.
akasakahakada··on Ask HN: Do you believe AGI is (practically) possible?
> I belive by 2030

Achieved already in 2024

akasakahakada··on Ask HN: What internal tool/app has helped your team/company the most?
Well I built a symbolic comoutating engine from scratch that would have taken 4 PhD's work all by myself, to solve specific type of equation in quantum physics. That goes way beyond my boss' expectation, he thought such program would be impossible to write but I just did it. What it is doing is kind of like solving matrix multiplication. Decompose large matrix into summation of smaller once to reduce O(n) figure for better scaling. My program can decompose tensors automatically and the result is compiled as executable code. It will be the foundation for a fore-coming paper.

Besides that, I encourage my team to ban using a Google collaborated OSS library. Instead I reinvent wheels and implemented mine with new algorithm, which is 20X performance still using Python as what they did, by that our in-house software's runtime reduced by 80%.

akasakahakada··on What if AGI is not coming?
This example shown human is not a ingredient involved in invention of math concept.

https://earthsky.org/earth/fish-can-do-math-cichlids-stingra...

akasakahakada··on What if AGI is not coming?
What you mean is just a dataset of records of interaction around gravity as input to a system, and math as the output. There is no necessity for a "boby" to be included in here.

And you are required to see 11 dimension to stand for your body experienceism. You are not allowed to extend linear algebra from 3D to arbitrary dimensions.

akasakahakada··on What if AGI is not coming?
Bro you are proven wrong. Baby FOV camera footage as the training dataset of LLM, the result is not bad.

https://www.nyu.edu/about/news-publications/news/2024/februa...

akasakahakada··on What if AGI is not coming?
FYI there is "symbolic fitting" that crunch through all combination of equations to find the math equation for simple phycis laws. That seem to me is hackable, like inserting heuristics to speed up the process. That heuristics can be generated from LLM.
akasakahakada··on What if AGI is not coming?
> they are really only one or two groups

Of corse one in a million that some will fall into a different evolutionary path.

The number on the success side is statistically way too significant so you can't revolve anything with this one.

akasakahakada··on What if AGI is not coming?
Again nonsensical body-experience argument. Do you need to see 11 dimensional world in order to invent math to deal with string theory? Do physicist see those extra dimensions in their eyes?
akasakahakada··on What if AGI is not coming?
Until you realize that ChatGPT is also fluent in 20 other languages by including minimal data into the training dataset.
akasakahakada··on What if AGI is not coming?
This is the kind of question that every NonSTEM people would struggle at. Given function F and G. For all input x, resulting F(x) = G(x), this indicate that obviously F and G is the same thing whether inside or outside.
akasakahakada··on What if AGI is not coming?
Your logical loophole is that you forgot to include "process of creating thing" into the subset of human activity and this can be trained. Back in the days AlphaGo make some magical novel move in the game that shocked every Go experts. People study how AI play games to improve themselves nowadays.

LLM nowadays solve insane hard science problem, invent new algorithms that you don't see.
