ajbetteridge··on Why I no longer use MVC frameworks
Ok, then add in some routing for your different pages, and tidy it up a bit, make it all callable from a URL mapping, and low and behold, you've made your own MVC framework on top of express.js. Congratulations.
ajbetteridge··on 40,000-year-old jawbone reveals early modern humans interbred with Neandertals
I don't understand why it's always been such a surprise that various hominid groups interbred. It's not like one day there were Neandertals and the next day they stopped existing and the next group took over. Surely that's just part and parcel of evolutionary theory?
ajbetteridge··on Why does the restoration of 'The Third Man' look weird?
sadly, not just for you
ajbetteridge··on Samsung makes big trucks transparent in the name of road safety
Not what I'd call transparent, but still useful tech.
ajbetteridge··on Stop using tail -f (mostly)
Same here. I'm normally using "tail -f | grep something" which less +f doesn't seem to handle.
ajbetteridge··on Egyptian repairman outranks Google in search
Perhaps this is an attempt by Google to show it's not anti-competitive?
ajbetteridge··on MIT cheetah robot lands the running jump [video]
So they can spend millions developing the robot, but the best they can do for tracking while they film from the side is a guy pushing another guy in a big plastic box on wheels. Way to go geeks!
ajbetteridge··on Minecraft Modding Software To Teach Kids Coding
This looks like something my kids would love. I've been trying to teach them Python over the last few weeks, with marginal success, sometimes to do with my time restrictions, but also their lack of motivation at the length of time it takes for them to see results. This looks like it could remedy that.
ajbetteridge··on 25 tools every new developer needs
"There's a reason most people in tech use Macs: most open source tools and frameworks were developed for OSX, then ported to Windows or Linux. "

What cloud does this guy live on?

ajbetteridge··on France ditches the name ISIS, replacing it with a label the group hates
Yeah, I'm sure none of us would actually bother to read the article if the name was in the title.
ajbetteridge··on Is Java the Cobol of tomorrow and Go the Java of the future?
Presumably so they didn't have to pay Microsoft for Visual Studio et al.
ajbetteridge··on Ferguson or Iraq? Photos Unmask the Militarization of America's Police
No, this is the inevitable outcome of the global elite controlling government and the armed forces, and not giving a damn about the rest of the population whether they own guns or not.
ajbetteridge··on Decentralizing Identity
Ok, so let's move from a centralised identity (say email) that some people control themselves while the rest majority a big corporate to do it for them, to a distributed identity (that far less people will understand than email) where some people control their own data but the majority will use a third party (like the same set of big corps) to do it for them. Where's the advantage in this distributed system again?
ajbetteridge··on Executions should be by firing squad, federal appeals court judge says
And some religions advocate stoning to death. That doesn't make either position correct. Religion should be left out of these kinds of discussions, among many others, but sadly isn't. Let's not do anything at all, that way we'll offend less people.
ajbetteridge··on Which is faster? while(1) {} or while(2) {}
Totally depends on the person. I'm shy in interviews, always have been, but I'd happily challenge anyone with my knowledge. (I'm not saying I know everything or even a lot, but I am very confident of what I do know)
ajbetteridge··on Did you ever wanted to crowdfund your idea but don't know how?
Maybe you could get a proof reader first?
ajbetteridge··on Tech Company With $39 In Assets Now Worth More Than $6B
Google Now asked me if I wanted to keep getting info on CYNK stock on Friday, which seemed weird at the time as I don't subscribe to any stock updates, but now makes some sense I guess.
ajbetteridge··on Why the future doesn't need us (2000)
Indeed. If a human baby can't identify that it's hand are in fact it's own hands is it intelligent by any reasonable standard? I'd say no. So couldn't this be how a machine AI begins it's own process of self awareness, then proceed to understand it's own surroundings and it's own sensors?
ajbetteridge··on Turn any application that uses stdin/stdout into a WebSocket server
Same here. And to get the flame bait machine started, we even do it in Perl!
ajbetteridge··on Did these guys just reinvent the Web?
Article says "We use the CSS3 primitive -webkit-transform: matrix3d", so that'd be a yes
ajbetteridge··on Newsblur runs into MongoDB bug – can't replicate DB
Or he could have, I don't know, tested it first? Nah, no one tests first before making such a large change on a production server. And don't give me crap about it's a one man operation either and we should feel sorry for him, if he's hoping to take over a good portion of Google Reader's subscribers (which he seems to hoping to do) then he should be planning better. If he can't plan to cope with a big influx of new users, that he's asked for by advertising his service, then perhaps migrating to his service isn't the right thing to do. I'd rather have Google Reader notify me that they're shutting down in 3 months than a one man operation shutdown without notice because they can't handle the load and the hassle and costs are way over what they were expecting.
ajbetteridge··on We're giving out free 1CPU, 2GB, 10GB SSD -servers, celebrating our launch.
Hi, I've just signed up for a server, and my initial impression is a happy one. I'm going to trial a service on it and I'll try and provide as much feedback as I can.
