ajaymehta··on Show HN: The Crowdtilt Mobile App
This comment is totally on the mark. Campaigns like that pothole example are already popping up on Crowdtilt!

Check this (currently live) campaign out: a community in Oakland feels unsafe in their neighborhood and isn't being helped out by the local PD, so they're pooling funds together for private security: https://www.crowdtilt.com/campaigns/security-patrol-for-lowe...

ajaymehta··on Show HN: The Crowdtilt Mobile App
Hey, sorry about that! The app just launched today, so I wanted to throw up a link.

Here's a blog post that can hopefully give you some additional clarification: http://blog.crowdtilt.com/post/61679155794/put-change-in-you...

ajaymehta··on Kivo (YC S13) Uses Git to Make Collaborating on Documents Easier
Absolutely awesome product, congrats on the launch!
ajaymehta··on Prim (YC S13) Does Your Laundry. Pickup, Wash, Fold, Delivery, Awesome
I'm a user, Prim is awesome. Hoping they branch out a bit, and can help me do my dishes too (only 50% kidding).
ajaymehta··on Loom (YC W12) Launching Cloud Storage for Photos and Videos
Been using this and it's awesome. Have been so incredibly frustrated with iPhoto in the past...
ajaymehta··on Soylent raises $750k on Crowdhoster – what’s next for open source crowdfunding?
Hey! That's so awesome to hear, thank you. Please feel free to reach out to me directly: ajay@crowdtilt.com
ajaymehta··on Rewarding Edward Snowden's Courage
Hear hear, my friend. I just contributed $50.
ajaymehta··on Why we're building Loom
Ignore the hate -- this is a huge problem for millions that still hasn't been solved very well. I take tons of photos on my phone, and iPhoto is a terrible, clunky piece of software to manage all of them.

The end result is that, aside from the one-off shares to Instagram or Facebook, I don't do anything with my hundreds of photos at all. But I really want to. If Loom helps me do that, it's a very valuable service indeed.

ajaymehta··on Loom (YC W12) Is Building A Better iCloud
Have been looking for an iPhoto replacement like this for years. Almost nothing excites me more than getting out of the Apple photo ecosystem...
ajaymehta··on Kiera Wilmot is going to Space Camp
Because it wasn't linked in the article, here's the fundraiser Homer Hickam started for Kiera and Kayla's Space Camp trip: https://www.crowdtilt.com/campaigns/kayla-wilmot-space-acade...
ajaymehta··on Help Kiera with her legal bills
Crowdtilt's official twitter account has posted that the campaign is verified [1], and we'll handle disbursements of the funds directly to Kiera's family (I'm a representative). Angelle is a Crowdtilt user who was touched by Kiera's story, and wanted to do something about it!

ajaymehta··on "Make something people want" poster
Being a barber might not scale, but I would definitely call Supercuts [1] a startup when they were founded back in 1975.

ajaymehta··on How We Got 31k Pageviews in a Day by Pretending to be Obama
Thank you! Agreed. The page was on HN for like 18 minutes. The cool thing was to see traffic coming in from all over the place and getting tweets saying "Best April Fool's prank this year!" :)

It was a scrappy, last-minute fun project that managed to exceed expectations. The Crowdtilt founders thought it was sweet too!

ajaymehta··on How We Got 31k Pageviews in a Day by Pretending to be Obama
Well that's awesome! Congrats on the success with your post.

I think most people that put lots of effort into websites (whether they be simple blog posts, splash pages like this, or a fully-built-out product) struggle to get notable traffic. This might not be an unprecedented traffic success, but it was fun and generated a pretty surprising amount of buzz on social media.

ajaymehta··on How We Got 31k Pageviews in a Day by Pretending to be Obama
Thank you! :)
ajaymehta··on How We Got 31k Pageviews in a Day by Pretending to be Obama
Thanks! I think you're right, the 3k Facebook likes were great to see.

Unfortunately the page was modded off of HN (like all the other April Fool's jokes) after rising to the top super fast... I think if that hadn't happened we would have ended up with quite a bit more traffic.

ajaymehta··on Show HN: Framebase.io, Video for Developers
Was just hoping for something like this. Totally genius -- awesome work guys!
ajaymehta··on InstantCab (YC W12): A Hybrid Alternative To Ride-Sharing and Taxi Apps
This is a totally awesome service -- once called an InstantCab in SF and a limo came to pick us up. A goddamn LIMO.
ajaymehta··on Show HN: Incorporate your startup online with YC's forms (built by two lawyers)
Clerky was so incredibly useful during our incorporation/fundraising. Talk about solving a pain point for startups...
ajaymehta··on That Daily Shower Can Be a Killer
I initially thought this was going to be about long-term health risks of showering every day. I've heard that long hot showers are bad for the skin and/or hair, is that true? Or might they be bad for the body in other ways?

(But good piece nonetheless, Jared Diamond is brilliant.)

ajaymehta··on Should we talk about the fact that founder Jody Sherman didn't just die?
But maybe -- making this discussion more public would lead the surrounding friends/family of people like Aaron and Jody to be extra aware of this possibility?

I think either way, public or (relatively) private, similar people in a bad mental place are going to hear about this.

ajaymehta··on Your Credentials Are Worthless Here
You can still sift through resumés, but don't filter by school. Filter for people who have "created something" or who have a thoughtful online portfolio.
ajaymehta··on Just Stop
Thanks. I think that's a great idea.
ajaymehta··on Your Credentials Are Worthless Here
Good values aside, this is deceivingly brilliant as a hiring technique.

Hire the undervalued "hungry" people who the Googles/Facebooks of the world won't even give an interview, and they'll 1) be easier/cheaper to convince and 2) work super hard to prove themselves (especially if it's their first job out of school). If the startup does well, it's a win-win.

ajaymehta··on Just Stop
If it's true that Jody took his own life, this is really hitting me hard.

As an entrepreneur, I know well the need to put on the "killing it" face when asked about progress by others. But this is making me reconsider. If every interaction is superficial and full of one-upmanship, then we'll never find out about problems like these until it's too late.

ajaymehta··on Facebook cuts off friend-finding API access to Vine
I just downloaded Vine 10 minutes ago, and assumed this was a launch bug in their app.

My thoughts after seeing this: wow, what a cheap shot by FB and I feel for the Vine team getting caught in this crossfire (I gather it's still their small startup team inside of Twitter).

ajaymehta··on AAPL closes at exactly $500.00
Alright -- I think I understand your initial point now. Definitely agree with everything you just said. Thanks for elaborating.
ajaymehta··on AAPL closes at exactly $500.00
Right -- good call. Thanks for the advice.
ajaymehta··on AAPL closes at exactly $500.00
