I am with you. I first got online in 1991, when I was 10. You and I both are firmly rooted digital natives. Members of the last generation who had a choice in that. At the time it felt awesome to be on the inside as the Internet "happened." Over twenty years later and I'm not excited as I once was.

At this point the web is so interwoven into our daily lives (hacker or otherwise) it has become mundane. In many cases the Internet is not the new way or an alternative way, but the only way to do some thing. I am occasionally delighted by a burgeoning site or idea, but these moments are further and further apart.

The homogeny of today's Internet feels stifling. Not convinced I am a full on Neophiliac, but I do long for the sense of discovery and anticipation that accompanied waiting for your modem to finish its handshake.

I've wondered for a while about that as I don't have a down arrow. How do I get one?

As a NM resident I might be overly sensitive, but the phrase "across the border in New Mexico," could imply to the misinformed that New Mexico is not part of the US.

Agreed, but explain that to a regular consumer in the Verizon store.

Where can I find how my congressman voted. http://www.opencongress.org/roll_call/all does not yet have the results from today's vote.

This interface is superior to this most recent offering and MacRumors. I understand why you took it down but still too bad.

Yeah I think the partial unblur affect is cool, but after a period w/o someone clicking a tooltip would be useful.

It unblurs a little and then you click to make it unblur all the way. I was confused at first too. :)

I'm not sure either, but decided to ask the question on Programmers.SE: http://programmers.stackexchange.com/q/187915/3270.

Assuming I have a monitor, keyboard, etc. the cheapest I can get into developing for iOS is $699- the cost of buying a MacMini and paying for an Apple Developer license. Since the baseline MacMini probably isn't enough machine for most developers push that to $899 or $1099.

On the other side of that coin users are buying iOS devices which net Apple huge profits. Sure the high end Microsoft dev tools are spendy, but don't act like Apple is helping developers out.

I first followed the link to this presentation on my iPad 3rd generation. It actually provided a pretty decent experience in that form factor. That said using this site in Google Chrome 22 does suck. Apparently the app designers don't yet understand responsive design / progressive enhancement. Yes it's hard, but I'd expect a presentation such as this to show how to do all the right things.

I wonder if this is going to muck up the ability to post a video to YouTube natively from the OS. Meaning that rather than posting from the photo / video viewer you will now have to open the YouTube app to post.

To set an infinite value on the life of an astronaut is to set both the goals of the space exploration effort and the needs of the rest of humanity at naught.

Do you have a link to that post? I really like your summary here and would like to link to it directly, outside of linking to this comment.

Whether or not a business just buys new machines or upgrades their OS depends on a variety of factors. Coporations who have bought Microsoft Software Assurance can upgrade to the latest MS Software on any machine without incurring any new licensing costs. http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/software-assurance/new-ve...

Symantec is gobbling up headlines specifically to make you believe they are a high-tech operation. There are many other private firms and state operations which you will never hear about, running rings around Symantec.

Didn't play TradeWars 2002 but spent a fair amount of time with Legend of the Red Dragon.

Great tip thanks!

Stupid pay wall.
