ahmeneeroe-v2··on I spent the day teaching seniors how to use an iPhone
Thank you! I couldn't remember the name of it (and didn't feel like digging through menus to find it), so I haven't been able to disable until just now!
ahmeneeroe-v2··on US government shuts down after Senate fails to pass last-ditch funding plan
That's a lot. I'm sure it all means something real and actionable like you can make real world predictions that have material impacts based on all of that.

>Until then all both of us have are feelings

Literally I said the opposite

ahmeneeroe-v2··on US government shuts down after Senate fails to pass last-ditch funding plan
>Until then all both of us have are feelings

Yeah man that's exactly what I said.

>Elected Officials

Hegseth isn't an elected official, so nothing I said about elections is applicable to him. I did make a claim about Hegseth being "well respected by combat vets" which you will notice is different from both "approval rating" and "popularity" and also not at all relevant to the YouGov poll cited above.

600 years is long term. Add in the Republic and Monarchy years and the Romans were extremely long lived.
ahmeneeroe-v2··on U.S. Lost 32,000 Private-Sector Jobs in September, Says Payroll Processor
All very good points and something to think about. Especially short term vs long term unity.
ahmeneeroe-v2··on US government shuts down after Senate fails to pass last-ditch funding plan
The GP gave statistics about approval ratings, but nobody is elected on their approval rating, so I wouldn’t call that “evidence”.

Elected officials are elected based on votes vs an opposing candidate. In other words popularity vs approval rating.

The first test of Trump’s popularity will be in the 2026 midterms.

JumpCrisscoss, love you dawg but "if" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.
ahmeneeroe-v2··on US government shuts down after Senate fails to pass last-ditch funding plan
Elected officials aren't voted in by "approval rating", but by their popularity vs other candidates. "Approval rating" is not a real KPI.

The next poll of Trump's popularity will be the midterms. Until then all both of us have are feelings.

>Long-term it didn't work out that well for the Romans either

deeply unserious thing to say about history.

ahmeneeroe-v2··on US government shuts down after Senate fails to pass last-ditch funding plan
Trump is more popular than ever. Hegseth is incredibly well respected amongst combat vets.

Why do you think you're qualified to even understand what makes a good Secretary of War?

Have you accomplished anything? Do you understand warfighting?

ahmeneeroe-v2··on US government shuts down after Senate fails to pass last-ditch funding plan
This honestly sounds really great in theory, but in reality the accommodations and inclusivity became the whole game for the DoD, and winning wars kinda fell by the wayside.
ahmeneeroe-v2··on US government shuts down after Senate fails to pass last-ditch funding plan
The Secretary of War telling flag officers to prepare for war seems fine and normal, actually.

It would be dereliction of duty for everyone involved to do otherwise.

ahmeneeroe-v2··on U.S. Army confirms Tesla Cybertruck can't be imported in Europe
high school understanding of "socialist system"
ahmeneeroe-v2··on The Dismantling of the Forest Service
This is just normal conquest, historically speaking. Anyone who describes it otherwise is likely to be debilitatingly ignorant of history or intentionally obfuscating facts to push a narrative.
ahmeneeroe-v2··on Not only am I losing my livelihood to AI – now it's stealing my em dashes too
I don't get the "em dash = AI" thing. MS Word and iOS have been autocorrecting em dashes for years now.

Right? Am I the crazy one?

ahmeneeroe-v2··on That Secret Service SIM farm story is bogus
Winning is the only moral principle. On the scale of human history nothing else matters.

ahmeneeroe-v2··on That Secret Service SIM farm story is bogus
Excellent point. Love the Popper quote.

We can't be suicidally principled.

ahmeneeroe-v2··on That Secret Service SIM farm story is bogus
The first amendment should only apply to citizens. I understand that current case law says it applies to everyone, but I think that is a misstep that we can & should correct.
ahmeneeroe-v2··on That Secret Service SIM farm story is bogus
Cancel culture won. Conservatives are not being hypocritical for having been against it and now for it. If your opponent is using an effective weapon and you don't also pick up that weapon, you will lose.
ahmeneeroe-v2··on That Secret Service SIM farm story is bogus
The immediate aftermath of someone's death is not the time to critique them, gently or not. Total lack of decorum and social sense. Not fit to teach young children.

ahmeneeroe-v2··on Disney is raising the price of Disney+ and Hulu
Very funny but you overestimate your counter-party
ahmeneeroe-v2··on Disney is raising the price of Disney+ and Hulu
It's very weird to want to be subscribed to all of these. Especially at the same time.

Didn't cable TV used to be like $80-120 for top packages (equivalent to having all of the content subs)? What is that in today's dollars?

ahmeneeroe-v2··on US airlines are pushing to remove protections for passengers and add more fees
This is a pro level feature set. I don't think most flyers feel bilked that they can't do this. Absolute price sensitivity (meaning bottom line, not "cheapest business class") is the factor for most people and that is easy to see on any of the flight search engines.
ahmeneeroe-v2··on US airlines are pushing to remove protections for passengers and add more fees
Isn't this just regular seating (of any class) on one of the non-discount airlines?

I fly a couple times a month with Alaska or Delta, economy tickets only, and this is always my experience. No weird fees, price known up front, the seat is fine, etc.
