I specifically asked about serious people, not the electorate at large.
>why should we support us automakers
Because the US is Canada's sole defense.
That's the only feature I use my watch for. It sits on the charger all day waiting for me to wear at night.
Illegal immigration can best be thought of as a slow-moving constitutional crisis. An increasingly large portion of the electorate wants decisive solutions to illegal immigration and will vote for the person who gives them that, regardless of the constitutionality.
This is also a choice for the people in charge of the border. Enforcing a border is a solved problem for a rich, large-population nation.
I personally think that Canada can be our (US) greatest ally, but this is only true in the hard-power sense of the word if Canada does actually meet its defense obligations.
Canada has a huge coastline, directly adjacent to our most significant threats (China & Russia), yet doesn't have a navy to speak of.
We need Canada to step up to its own defense so we can keep being equal allies, otherwise Canada is a de facto protectorate and should pay for that privilege.
Lot of feeling going on in this comment, but that's not really how money works.
In what context? This isn't fashion, being the 2nd mover has benefits which often outweigh the costs.
Honestly it doesn't sound that bad considering these pharma revenues: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_biomedical_com...
Idk (and idc) if it's a personal or political thing but either way I'm not engaging further.
They're basically necessary to do business in an advanced society that has rules governing every aspect of life. Those rules (even if good) often have unintended consequences and advocacy groups can help ensure that their industries are considered when rule-making.
