agos··on The most important product decision is what you don't build
that's why timeboxing is such a powerful choice. You decide you ship on date x, and the scope of the work adapts to the time available, instead of the opposite
agos··on The most important product decision is what you don't build
truly, but you seldom have full control over the input of that pipeline

Hey sorry to be the debugging guy in the comments, but maybe your network issues could be related to iCloud relay? I’ve had similar issues

tables are a very logical way of organizing _tabular_ content. they're a terrible tool for layout, accessibility wise

Apple maps still has the globe!
agos··on The UN challenges five centuries of cartography
I was under the impression that they had a globe only when zoomed out, then transitions to web Mercator as you zoom in. Is it not the case? FYI Apple Maps also shows a globe

it was also terrible, but in a different way
agos··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
> The performance gains in native compared to RN (new architecture) are minimal for normal UIs (except games)

And yet most apps feels distinctly different than native.

> The most valuable feature which RN have is OTA updates, this has been a game changer for us and many fast moving companies. Ability to release and iterate at light speed. On native you are on the mercy of the app stores for review

That's the real killer feature

> Silos of bugs on native - When you go native you might encounter bugs which appear only on either platform.

This still very much happens with RN on anything bigger than a toy app

> The project management of native teams is not always in sync - The teams often drift apart bevy iOS team might need 2 weeks just to make the app compatible with the new iPhone Fold (Duo) or Android team might encountered a blocker. Keeping them in sync for new features is really hard.

Speaking of which, what is the iPhone Duo support situation of RN right now?

agos··on PyPI Blog: Incident File Hosting Errors
I wonder how it is possible that Fastly deployed a canary node and did not notice it was only responding 502s until PyPI alerted them
agos··on 216M Spy TVs – The LG Smart TV Problem [video]
I’m sure this would not work under GDPR. The host surely isn’t a data processor.
agos··on WeatherNext 3
well, that's interesting. the design it's a bit of a letdown - very very very low information density, lots of horizontal scrolling, a tab bar item dedicated to notifications (which one never changes) and another one dedicated to community (which is empty of content). Hopefully good data and good notifications make up for the poor design.
agos··on 2026 Hugo Awards
I wanted to like it so much, and the first book was so promising... but couldn't really enjoy the other two books. I understand why it's loved, but also can't see it being the greatest of our time, by a mile

that might be true unless we can define what nutrition can help with sleep. There's plenty of people who eat well and sleep like crap.
