ageyfman··on Ask HN: Questions for Freelancers/Contractors?
1. usually code, or a github repo

2. email or password-protected link to my server

3. depends, but mostly before payment, as I work w/ enterprise customers

4. unfortunately, there isn't a single way, sometimes via freshbooks (paypal), mostly check (companies may not have a paypal account, and then the fees suck).

ageyfman··on Show HN: Fireform – Hook your website form into a hosted private back end
makes sense. Since you used angular, I'd love to see JS form serialization that does good markup output. This way, you don't have to build a form builder (but I might), and the tool supports storing these forms in DB easily. Food for thought. I've written something like this already, and it's been very helpful.

What are your thoughts on pricing for this? How about a form builder?
ageyfman··on After a year of struggling, my startup is now open source
ha! I'd love to see a paid license model, where you can use this software in any proprietary way for an annual/one-time fee.

Thanks for posting this up -- can you clarify the reason for using AGPL as opposed to something a little more friendly to SaaS businesses, like BSD or MIT licenses? I only ask because it seems like from reading the license that any changes to the source code must be provided for download, thereby making it difficult to build a defensible business with this tool (I guess with this tool alone).
ageyfman··on The Rule of Awesome
That IS awesome. That's my point, if you don't get it, and awesome is really just the "sizzle", then you're losing out on really solid people who are more into quality than fashion.
ageyfman··on The Rule of Awesome
Is fixing bugs awesome? Because a guy who can fix bugs for 30 days straight is the most valuable engineer in the building, but using this rubric, he'd be fired, because I don't think anyone considers fixing bugs awesome. I wouldn't want to work somewhere where everyone is rushing to impress the boss with "awesome" features, when the rest of the product isn't getting love.
ageyfman··on Ask PG: Did the "apply to YC without an idea" experiment work?
There is more than one technically-capable person out there. It's a good proof-point for your skills as a hustler as well, convincing others on the quality of your idea.
ageyfman··on Ask PG: Did the "apply to YC without an idea" experiment work?
why not find a technical co-founder? have you tried? convincing a technical person to go-in with you will be much simpler than convincing anyone at YC to accept you.
ageyfman··on My Plea to Oracle: Axe Java Applets
Java applets are necessary for folder uploads. Right now, only 1 browser supports folder uploads, and that's Google Chrome. All others allow single or multi-file uploads, but not folders. This is a HUGE problem for some medical and document-management use cases. Until folder uploads work natively in other browsers (IE7+, FF, Safari), applets are not only necessary, but essential.
ageyfman··on Hacking the Used Car Purchase
why is everything that involves thinking is now called "hacking"? Buy from Craigslist is really a hack? Seriously? Carfax report is a hack? That's pretty lazy. Car arbitrage is a hack - checking a car's title is minimal effort.
ageyfman··on Google.pl's crazy doodle
Lem is great, and this doodle is a great remembrance. Great job, Google.
ageyfman··on I'm a serial over committer
the most important thing is finishing. optimize for that. anyone can start, few can finish.

it's much more barebones than evernote. our goal is to enable you to save just the takeaways, and not to be inundated with many options, notebooks, etc. We also have a public by default policy, which creates a social space for posting these takeaways.
