aethos··on Study finds women are responsible for half of some online abuse on Twitter in UK
I can't quote for you as I am on mobile, but as the article notes the researchers used contextual analysis in their study.

I don't think that is very relevant. While the n-word is a relatively common part of african american vernacular, it is not that "slut" or "whore" are specifically part of female vernacular.
aethos··on How Technology Hijacks People’s Minds
That's true, but I would assert that if you gave two people a small cup and big cup, the one with the larger would still drink more, even with free refills. More refills needed for the same amount if soda, more distance to walk, more time, etc.

Could you explain this a bit further?

Not OP, but I'm making one!
aethos··on The Hedonic Treadmill
It's not so much thanking an external source, but just appreciating good things that happen. Try it!
aethos··on In the Future, We Will Photograph Everything and Look at Nothing
I'm not sure if I follow. Could you point me to the section you are referring to? All I found was this, which seems quite positive.

"First, when a building is ordinarily visible from a public place, its protection as an "architectural work" does not include the right to prevent the making, distributing, or public display of pictures, photographs, or other pictorial representations of the work.[13] Thus, the architect will not be able to prevent people from taking photographs or otherwise producing pictorial representations of the building. "

aethos··on What 74 Years of Crossword History Says About the Language We Use
Of course the use of the German proposition as a hint has decreased -- I would think the clue "car service" is being used with greater frequency these days

That comparison and its respective graph seem a bit meaningless. Of course
aethos··on Fixing Twitter
Another thing on the "desert island" effect is that, from the perspective of a artistist or creator, it seems oddly difficult to get discovered on Twitter. Maybe it's something about the interface or recommendation system?
aethos··on Fears of a Clown
I think many people have a fear of clowns in the way that many people say they have OCD or ADHD. Yes, clowns can be scary but that doesn't mean you actually fear them.
aethos··on Twitter's Dilemma
The "timeline" trend is what really throws me off. Although an algorithmically generated timeline seems like a useful feature, it's not long before it becomes saturated with irrelevant content. To add to your example of Facebook, Soundcloud also suffers a similar, although milder problem. Tracks are unfairly ordered and prioritized, which leads to a lot of big names again and again, with the other users left behind.

Twitter's choice to follow in these footsteps may be an easy one, but surely not the best.

aethos··on Redesigning SoundCloud
While many aspects of this redesign are well thought-out, I think that the changes to the stream are not of high quality. With the new design, white space in the stream is greatly diminished and it feels cluttered. One solution to this might be to only have the colored backgrounds for the track that is playing.

I think it would be best to try to keep more of Soundcloud's orange on white look for continuity too.
