adrianbg··on Ask HN: What visa do foreign YC founders use to stay in US beyond 3 months?
http://unshackled.co/ is working pretty well for me. YC's attitude toward foreign founders didn't inspire much confidence.
adrianbg··on Netflix to Shut Down Last Datacenter
"The closing of Netflix’s last data center has been seven years in the making."

Does that sound like a drop in the bucket?

adrianbg··on EFF, AdBlock and Others Launch New “Do Not Track” Standard
Advertisers only get your attention because publishers want their money. It still boils down to money.
adrianbg··on Project Shield: DDoS Protection by Google for news and human rights orgs
The front lines are online.
adrianbg··on Think – Fast mobile whiteboarding
Should be called "Talk". Looks like a nice product though.
adrianbg··on What are your pain points?
Could you elaborate? Too many Tweets, Facebook posts and news articles to sift through?
adrianbg··on What are your pain points?
Fixed the title :)
adrianbg··on Uber Flunks the Better Business Bureau Test
Given that "The Better Business Bureau, which was founded in 1912, is not a government agency, nor does it have regulatory or enforcement power," what implications does this have?

adrianbg··on Frequentism and Bayesianism: A Practical Introduction
Does anyone know how to make the formulas render properly? Even using the iPython notebook viewer hasn't helped.
adrianbg··on Filecoin – Data storage network and crypto-currency based on Bitcoin
Store redundant copies yourself, each copy encrypted with a different key.

If there are a lot of storage nodes competing on price each copy should end up on a different node, and none would be able to afford a centralized storage service.

adrianbg··on 2048 – multiplayer
how does one almost think?
adrianbg··on Boeing’s Black: This Android phone will self-destruct

adrianbg··on Things that suck in AngularJS
My biggest pet peeve is how it suppresses errors in inline expressions.
adrianbg··on Data Shows Google’s Robot Cars Are Smoother, Safer Drivers Than You or I
"And existing product liability laws make it clear that a car’s manufacturer would be at fault if the car caused a crash, he said. He also said that when the inevitable accidents do occur, the data autonomous cars collect in order to navigate will provide a powerful and accurate picture of exactly who was responsible."
adrianbg··on A Penny Saved: Psychological Pricing
As a consumer I'm pretty aware of this tactic. I probably still fall for it, but I also notice and think better of sellers that don't use it.
adrianbg··on Biggest Virus Yet Found, May Be Fourth Domain of Life?
pure math but not much else. "bullshit" is being thrown around pretty liberally here.
adrianbg··on Project Loon
Has no one noticed that this is a super-governmental network? Like, including the US government and its NSA?
adrianbg··on Stop Watching Us Gathers Over 100,000 signatures to fight NSA surveillance
I don't think the American government is unusual in this regard.
adrianbg··on Mozilla, EFF, Reddit And 83 Other Organizations Launch StopWatching.Us
The root cause is power, of which money is a conveniently quantifiable manifestation. Power-seeking has occurred continually over time since human populations became dense enough to extrude persistent hierarchies.
adrianbg··on NSA leaker is a patriot, not a traitor
The only difference between a normal government and a colonial government is the degree of integration. If you live under any government you are ruled, not free. The countries we have now grew by conquering and accumulating territory -- that is except in the cases where territories decided to give up their independence like the states in the US.
adrianbg··on NSA leaker is a patriot, not a traitor
Are you sure you've looked back at history? People's freedoms are typically limited by elites in their own country, not by foreign enemies.
adrianbg··on Domain Knowledge or a Lack Thereof
Programmers should learn more about other domains and domain experts should learn how to program. Programming is becoming nearly as basic a skill as writing.
adrianbg··on Ask HN: How do you deal with Rabbit Hole Syndrome?
My mantra for this is "only solve problems".
adrianbg··on Bitcoin Reaches All Time High Market Capitalization
They might adopt it if it's more stable than their currency, like how Ecuador uses the US dollar.
adrianbg··on An example of quantum-hard classically-implementable asymmetric crypto
What do you mean by "block"? A limit on the number of entangled qubits?
adrianbg··on Bill Gates is naive, data is not objective
Academic self-proclaimed "babe" correctly points out minor flaws in a major insight, misses the forest for the trees.
adrianbg··on A Short Rant About Working Remotely
Brain function is not the only variable at play here. Software and culture change constantly.
adrianbg··on Bill Gates: My Plan to Fix The World's Biggest Problems
Who has more power to do good in the world? A rich business person or a "powerful" politician in a democracy? I'm going to go with the business person. They're free to do anything they can afford, unlike politicians who are at the mercy of government processes and political opponents.
adrianbg··on The ABC Conjecture has not been proved
too long, don't bother reading: A proposition is only considered proven when a bunch of experts reach a consensus that a proposed proof is correct. This is currently not the case for the ABC conjecture.
