adr1an··on Stack Overflow is documentation, not Q&A
And that's why I use it so much for getting my way around the Linux shell :)
adr1an··on Storm: LLM system that researches a topic and generates full-length wiki article
It gives you a draft that you should keep working on. For example, fact checking.
adr1an··on Firefox Is Bringing in Tab Grouping Feature
+1 sidebery
adr1an··on Ask HN: C/C++ developer wanting to learn efficient Python
This depends a lot on the usecase. For example, data scientists prefer using libraries like dask and polars for faster analyses. What you are asking is, in a way, looking under the hood of such libraries. Oftentimes, you will find that under the hood there's C or Rust code.. anyway, check these articles: https://pythonspeed.com/
adr1an··on ActivityPub/Nostr/At-Bluesky Compared
You require to send a message through Discord to get your PDS federated. Is this real?
adr1an··on Blocky – a DNS proxy and ad-blocker for the local network
It's a bit faster, yet it lacks a web UI. I prefer it, because I use it directly on the PC/ Laptop via Docker and I like text files more than binding web UIs to ports..
adr1an··on Ask HN: Which news aggregators can provide an alternative to Hacker News?
Programming.dev and the whole Fesiverse \o/
adr1an··on Xkcd 1928: Seven Years (2017)

adr1an··on Runtipi: Docker-based home server management
Open ports? Nowadays people just use tailscale.. AFAIK
adr1an··on Runtipi: Docker-based home server management
TrueNAS and Proxmox are easy too, I don't know what Synology runs as OS.
adr1an··on Show HN: Plandex – an AI coding engine for complex tasks
Agreed! I for example would prefer to use diffstatic
adr1an··on Show HN: I've built a locally running Perplexity clone
I have a 'feature request', can we manage which sites are being used by some categories in the frontend? For example, if I build a list of websites and out them under "coding", then I'd like to use those to answer my programming questions. Meanwhile, I'd like to add an "art" category for museum's homepages so that I can ask which year was XYZ painting from. And so on. The current implementation looks like the inter-operability with searing is more static... IDK if searxng has an API to switch those filters or if they can be managed already through 'profiles'.. that kind of thing..
adr1an··on Show HN: I've built a locally running Perplexity clone
This is so cool! And the fact that you can use Ollama as 'llm backend' makes it sustainable. didn't see how to switch models in the demo, that might be worth to highlight in readme..
adr1an··on Show HN: Docfd: TUI multiline fuzzy document finder
Are you writing temporary files to temp or /dev/shm ? I would hate it otherwise. Of course, others my prefer to have RAM used by other processes...
adr1an··on Backdoor in upstream xz/liblzma leading to SSH server compromise
What about sponsors? Actually, now I have the idea of a platform similar to Kickstarter but for software development, and with just sponsors. It wouldn't work, sure... Except in some cases. Like when things like this happen...
adr1an··on Proxmox VE: Import Wizard for Migrating VMware ESXi VMs
For the sake of completeness, xcp-ng is an alternative to migrate VMware ESXi VMs too!
adr1an··on Germany's solar panel industry, once a leader, is getting squeezed
Maybe they are switching to other renewable sources, like windmills...
adr1an··on Ask HN: How to run an old-school mailing list?
And why would they say "for newsletters AND MAILING LISTS" in their 1-sentence description? You can file a bug report if it's not a mailing list at all.
adr1an··on Ask HN: How to run an old-school mailing list?
What about self-hosting? There's listmonk.app
adr1an··on Microsoft Paper Intros Autonomous AI Framework, Turning Devs into Supervisors
copilot would be similar to that
adr1an··on Disk write buffering and its interactions with write flushes
There's "$ sync" to ask the Kernel to start the actual write. And "dd" command has the option to do so, too. It's just not the default, as many things on Linux, unfortunately.
adr1an··on The Reddits
Reddit (the idea) is alive and spreading (federated) in Lemmy :)
adr1an··on Why did we wait so long for the bicycle? (2019)
Also, horses self-drive you home after a long night drinking beers in the tavern.
adr1an··on Google Scholar PDF Reader
Or Sioyek (vim keybindings!), Okular, Xournalpp, Zotero, ...
adr1an··on RStudio: Integrated development environment (IDE) for R
Can you use quarto in vscode? It's the next magic from Posit.co
adr1an··on Margaret Mead, John von Neumann, and the Prehistory of AI
Indeed, the demon of Descartes predates the Brain in Vat hypothesis put forward in modern terms, using a computer, by Hilary Putnam around 1968 (same year?! idk..)
adr1an··on Titanosaurs were the biggest land animals Earth's ever seen
No :'(
adr1an··on Show HN: ECSS – Simple rules for efficient CSS
A pre-commit script would be nice and easy entry (at least for me)
adr1an··on Ageism Haunts Some Tech Workers in the Race to Get Hired
Or, you can blow some steam with a sport. Repressing feelings can turn to be for worse (yeah, it's cliche to say it but not less truthful)
adr1an··on Latency numbers every programmer should know
Mmm.. you could rotate both text and bars, right? Like, horizontal bars.
