adl··on Paul Graham is leaving Twitter for now
I do not agree with your opinion on Elon Musk, but I admire how calm, rational and polite your response to this situation is. Most people (including me) would let our emotions take over. You, sir, are a class act.
adl··on GraalVM 22.3: JDK 19 builds, jlink support, new monitoring features, and more
Per the GraalVM website: "GraalVM JIT and Native Image will become a part of OpenJDK"

I understand the Native Image stuff becoming part of OpenJDK, but what does it mean for OpenJDK to get the GraalVM JIT? does it replace the one in OpenJDK? will OpenJDK have two JIT implementations to choose from?

adl··on GraalVM Being Integrated into OpenJDK
This is very exciting news! native image support really belongs in the OpenJDK.
adl··on Dear JetBrains, Don't mess with your UI
Virtual Desktops are not a substitute to multiple monitors. With multiple monitors you can have several full screen windows open at the same time. Like coding in your main screen and seeing documentation/web browser in the other.
adl··on Dear JetBrains, Don't mess with your UI
You can change the UI font size in: Preferences -> Appearance & Behavior -> Appearance -> Use Custom Font | Size
adl··on Dear JetBrains, Don't mess with your UI
You can change it back. Go to Preferences -> Version Control -> Commit -> Use non-modal commit interface.

That link provides more info about the story, I remembered reading about it years ago, Also after they restored most of the files deleted, most of the movie was scraped and redone.

The article is wrong, it wasn't her 'personal computer' it was a Pixar Workstation that was at her home, not the same thing.

adl··on Fortran Web Framework
I think Maven is better managed, and more simple than npm.
adl··on Non-Commercial Licenses Are Non-Free Licenses
That's not limiting use, it's limiting distribution, different things.
adl··on Tamale King: ecommerce website from 1990s
I'm Mexican, and I know that there are different kinds of Tamales, that said, that machine does not make sense to me, I have never seen tamales like those.
adl··on Welcome to C# 9.0
C# is a very good language. I like it a lot, and Visual Studio is a fine IDE, but the tools pale in comparison to the JVM tools (Maven, Gradle, IntelliJ, Eclipse, Spring Boot, GraalVM, etc)
adl··on Linus Torvalds: Git proved I could be more than a one-hit wonder
more accurate, it is called 'ordenador' in Spain. In Latin America, is 'Computadora'
adl··on Ask HN: Anyone rewriting Java code due to new license costs?
No need to rewrite anything. There is an excellent summary here: https://medium.com/@javachampions/java-is-still-free-2-0-0-6...

the tl;dr is that there are multiple OpenJDK vendors now, Oracle just happens to charge for their JDK distribution, but you can choose from several vendors (Azul, Red Hat, IBM, AdoptOpenJDK, Amazon Correto, etc)

adl··on Angular v8.0
as a Java Spring Developer that hates frontend development (and loves Java and Spring), I found this very funny :)
adl··on Winter Is Coming for Java Updates
Do you believe that the Linux Kernel is fragmented? That's exactly what different distros do to the kernel.

Pycharm, Webstorm, Goland and Intellij, are some of the most used IDEs, all Java based.
adl··on Linux on Dex
An HP Elite Lapdock and a Note 9 will get you 90% of the setup you want. I have that setup, it doesn't dock into a slot, it hangs on the side with a USB C cable, but the rest is just as you describe.
adl··on Best Buy Is Thriving in the Age of Amazon
That's what RadioShack was for me in the 80s. Pure joy entering a RadioShack as a kid, back when they still sold Tandy Computers.
adl··on If you’re not a Prime member, Amazon won’t sell you "The Last Jedi"
Interesting, in Mexico, Costco does check for membership at the food court, but I think they don't at the pharmacy.
adl··on Android Studio 3.1 Stable
That's mostly Gradle. Jetbrains IDEs are not exactly lean, but Android's use of Gradle is an exercise in patience, even on the command line.
adl··on Android Studio 3.1 Stable
Could you elaborate? VS Code is faster/leaner than WebStorm, that's for sure, but are there any specific workflows that you feel VSCode is better than WS?
adl··on Magic Leap Raises $461M from Saudis
For someone who lives outside the US, but has visited Florida (Miami and Orlando), what do yo mean by tolerate? I understand that they may be more... conservative?. As a tourist, Miami seemed multicultural and fairly liberal, are state politics different?
adl··on Ask HN: Modern Linux laptop with great battery life?
I have a Thinkpad T460p with 32GB of ram and a 1TB SSD running Ubuntu 17.10. I get about 7 hours with the extended battery. everything works except the fingerprint reader.

The current versions: the T470, T470p or the T25, are great Linux laptops.
