Here’s an article about The Sacramento Music Archive that’s also worth checking out.

You can even spend time and money to acquire a patent and it still doesn’t guarantee profit. It’s called the Miura-ori even though it was patented decades earlier. In this case, the patent acts as a record emphasizing that it’s all been done before.

Don't get hug up on "invented". Ruth Asawa registered for (1956) and received US patent 185,504 on June 16, 1959 at the suggestion of her professor, Buckminster Fuller.

Is it politically motivated or does it have to do with Canadian tech not requiring investment because of its stability?

This is definitely sad news. From I remember, the early Internet seemed to be inhabited mostly by deadheads. When you think of open source, remember the music and the thousands who would tape and share the experience of Bobby playing with the band to millions.

adfm··on Will West Coast Jazz Get Some Respect?
While the band Death did evolve into a reggae band and Bad Brains, the undisputed originators of hardcore did have a reggae component, I would have to say that punk rock roots are very much rock 'n roll.

Fun fact, the song "Buffalo Soldier" was directly inspired by The Banana Splits theme song.

Punk, too!
adfm··on Will West Coast Jazz Get Some Respect?
The etymology of the word “Jazz” originates on the west coast and migrates east to meet up with the new music as musicians emigrate north to Chicago and New York audiences. Jazz is truly improvisational and very much American in origin.

I offer Fred Rogers testifying before the senate subcommittee on communications as a refresher on why we must continue to fund PBS and NPR.

The person on the other end of that call is thin skinned and likely not hugged much as a child. Sad.

I keep a Mac IIci that I purchased at a thrift store for $12 to remind me that we haven't progressed that far. It's not fast, but it runs Photoshop, Illustrator, and Vim. Not bad for a 35+ year old machine that will do 80% of what you need. No GPU, but I think that's losing the plot when people can't afford to pay their electricity bills while billion dollar companies continue to scale out the data centers that jack up prices for AI slop nobody wants.

adfm··on Chipotle stock craters: young people without jobs cannot afford their food
If you're young and without a job, burritos are definitely in your price range; you just have to be willing to make it yourself. It's not hard to get close to that Mission-style burrito with a little patience and buying in bulk. Get an Instant Pot for the beans. There's a ton of recipes for decent beans on YouTube. Make your own salsa; it's not hard. Grate your own cheese (80g/burrito). Most places bulk up their burritos with rice. Use red/spanish/mexican rice, which is super simple to make. Use a 13.5-inch flour tortilla, which can be found at most restaurant supplies or your local mercado. Pro tip: use roasted veggies instead of rice. You can do it!
adfm··on Chipotle stock craters: young people without jobs cannot afford their food
No doubt. The ingredients to make a Mission-style burrito hover around $2 in quantity. Rice and beans are cheap filler and a 10-pack of 13.5-inch flour tortillas is $3.50. Prices fluctuate, but definitely not enough to justify the current fast food pricing models, which seems to assume everyone works at a FAANG company, which is increasingly not the case. Ditch Chipotle and hit La Cumbre instead.
