We have 100 Go services (with redpanda) and a few databases in docker-compose on dev laptops. It works well when and we buy the biggest memory MacBooks available.

adamdecaf··on Show HN: Iso20022.js – Create payments in 3 lines of code
Are you planning on generating all (or a subset) of 20022 messages? That’s what we did for our Go package using 20022 for RTP. We added helpers for generating IDs and the signature sign/validate.

adamdecaf··on Millions of Taxpayers Call the IRS for Help. Two-Thirds Don't Reach Anyone
I called a half dozen times on the English line and got no where.

I called once on the Spanish line and just spoke English, got my problem solved in under 5mins.

adamdecaf··on Ask HN: Tell us about your project that's not done yet but you want feedback on
I'm building Recall Kitchen which is an aggregator to notify consumers of products they use which have been recalled. Right now I'm focusing on the effort to help users tailor notifications so they're specific and actionable. It doesn't help to be told your brand of taco shells was recalled three states over and I'm working to fine-tune the signal.

adamdecaf··on Lastpass Security Incident
Have you ever tried to see if they'd let you bypass the question? I've wondered if saying "it's a bunch of gibberish" could work.

adamdecaf··on Scala isn't fun anymore
I wrote scala for six years and was on the team to first deploy akka in production. I've seen Json libraries come and go while also struggling to read files written with OO and FP patterns intermixed. Scala can be beautiful but in practice it gets messy.

Switched to Go four years ago and I've never looked back. Go made programming fun again just like PHP did before either of them.

adamdecaf··on Show HN: Ringer – Get and provide expert help on Open Source Software
This looks like a cool project. It's handy to require contributions before allowing someone to be an expert, but is there a minimum level of contributions needed? I have ~141 projects that I'm an "expert" in but some were contributed to years ago.
adamdecaf··on Ask HN: “government is printing money” - what does it mean in practice?
The Fed simply "marks up the size of the account" in the computer.

adamdecaf··on OpenSSL Security Advisory (14 December 2021)
For those curious CVE-2021-4044 looks to be fixed by a couple lines changed.

adamdecaf··on United States National Radio Quiet Zone
I was at the Very Large Array (VLA) in New Mexico a couple years ago. It had a similar "turn off your phones and radios" sign and radio silence perimeter. They have tourists and a gift shop, so it's not as locked down as a military base.

adamdecaf··on Ask HN: How did you acquire your first 100 users?
I've found that Traction [0] covers and explains most of the ideas people will mention here on HN.

adamdecaf··on Show HN: Tired of the non-portability of my playlists, I wrote my own format
https://github.com/adamdecaf/univplayfmt

I was planning on making a cli around some parsing logic and convert/export from various services (wherever I can get an API from).

adamdecaf··on Show HN: Tired of the non-portability of my playlists, I wrote my own format
I was starting to write one too! I've got a couple of commits I can share if you're interested.

adamdecaf··on Best Papers in Computer Science up to 2011
Some of the papers look to be behind a paywall, what a shame.
adamdecaf··on Poll: What's your yearly bonus?
I'm a student, so it's more like -$20k/year in "bonuses".
adamdecaf··on Louis C.K's email to his Beacon Theater Show customers
Which is exactly the reason I bought it. Sure, I like his comedy, but I wasn't going to buy his live show. That is, until I read his appeal and found out how humble he really is. It's great to finally see humans treating each other like humans and still make money.
adamdecaf··on BitTorrent Defense Lawyer Joins Copyright Trolls
You know what his choice made me do? Donate to the EFF (they apparently even have a sponsor to match donations to $500k). I hope Mike realized how asinine his decision was.
adamdecaf··on Gmail’s new look
I hope there will be a way to keep the current look, all of the new themes from Google are terrible. (As many people have stated before.)

adamdecaf··on How You Can Be Creative – A Lesson from Pablo Picasso
I've strongly believed that formal education should involve "reinventing the wheel" with some knowledge before hand, but to push creativity, inspiration, and adaptation when further knowledge is gained. It's how I've taught myself so much, and I think it can work for a lot of kids/people.
adamdecaf··on Why I will never pursue cheating again
Hopefully this is a similar view to other students here, but I would drop the class/change professors (even if that meant going into a larger class). Being in an environment where cheating is allowed is not somewhere that I want to be, much less learn in. I would feel like my honest work was just seen as equal to the cheaters'.
