acro··on Ask HN: Any way to see a dead thread?
There is showdead flag in your profile which does this.
acro··on Vernor Vinge predicts singularity by 2030
According to the Singularity is Near book, Kurzweil predicts human level artificial intelligence by 2030, and singularity by 2045.
acro··on Hey, HN. I put a lot of time and thought into this GUI. I'd love some feeback.
On Chrome the font on the category tabs is nearly not readable, Firefox displays the same font ok.
acro··on Ask HN: A replacement for last.fm?
Shoutcast radio on winamp is what I have used for years, many stations there.
acro··on Ask HN: How successful have donations been with your site?
Bay12 Games (Tarn Adams) has been somewhat successful with donations, I think he works now full-time on his own stuff. (http://www.bay12games.com/)

From their forums:

March Donations: $2997.46 and 50 billion dollars in expired bank notes from Zimbabwe February Donations: $1428.62 January Donations: $2099.48 December Donations: $5279.49 November Donations: $1305.10

acro··on Pirate Bay officially loses case
I would imagine they can easily make more than mininova, and mininova apparently has revenues over one million per year, see: http://torrentfreak.com/behind-the-scenes-at-mininova-090316...

This is just quessing, i have no confirmed information.

acro··on Ask HN: SEO Mystery - What's this 'MarchSEO' guy up to?
I don't think there is a scam, he is just submitting interesting content to build up his profile. He didn't copy the articles, at least the couple of submissions i checked. Its good for you, its good for him, whats the problem?
acro··on Impressive Workspaces
I'm curious, what exactly is impressive about the "first place" workspace?
acro··on Ask HN: Why is "exploiting" a website illegal?
Making a worm that changes something on a site means disrupting the service between a service provider and a customer, it is not just using something for another purpose.

If something is easy to do or the actual damage is small does not make that something more "right".

acro··on Ask HN: Why is "exploiting" a website illegal?
That last sentence is a bit troubling, are you serious? Think about a situation for example where all of your income comes from a website you publish and someone else does (without your permission) something to change/destroy the content, how that can be legal? If a car has unlocked doors and the keys are in ignition is it legal to take that car?
acro··on Ask HN : Review our first app SerialCooking
Looks great, works great, can't think of anything to nitpick right now :) (edit: oh maybe the categories menu is a bit messy, but its very very minor)
acro··on Marissa Mayer Keynote on How Google Works
direct link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6x0cAzQ7PVs
acro··on Sequoia: 20 Petaflops, 1.6 million cores, 1.6 Petabytes RAM
May I ask what is the basis of your estimate on the computational capacity of the human brain?
acro··on Ask HN: Review My WebApp
Maybe you could write a short description of the app to encourage people to comment?
acro··on Why the singularity may never arrive
I would like to point out to the author that many natural phenomena like rabbit populations are tightly constrained by environmental factors, mainly available living space and food. Its these environmental factors that cause the S-curves. These same constraints do not apply to technology.
acro··on In-Memory caching: Why we can't just trust the database to get it right
If your application is only reading data then it is fairly easy to scale well. Most real world applications also update data, and when updating data it must be written to permanent storage. I would argue the real scalability problems are created by the writes, not the reads.
acro··on Ask HN: Review my new startup: clickthatbutton.com
Sending the coordinates is the standard http behavior in the case of image submit buttons.
acro··on Ask HN: Entering a saturated market full of low quality competition?
Three basic competitive strategies: cost, differentiation, focus. All these seem identical to your competitors when looking at your site.
acro··on Google Chrome doesn't want you to visit google.com securely
This one seems like another traffic bait, Chrome has nothing to do with the HTTPS setup of google.com.
acro··on Real programmers don't use frameworks
To me this seems a bit like a deliberate link/traffic bait.
