abricot··on Macron Push to Drop CIA Code Quickens as Trump Calls EU Foe
I'm getting more and more worried that it doesn't help just waiting for the world to get back to its senses. US is not the only country where leading politicians have seemingly lost their minds - and there I'm not as naive to think that it will be over when the current politicians leave office.
abricot··on Japan to add millions of new nodes to federated Nextcloud network
Most routers support attaching a USB hard- or flash drive. This might become more convenient when they add Nexcloud to the router.
abricot··on Lubuntu Development Newsletter #9
Not very smart of them. In mu LUG we usually suggest Lubuntu for those PCs that are a bit older. Now I don't see what the point is. Most would rather run MATE than LXDE if there's no difference.
abricot··on Ask HN: What would you pay $5/month for?
I would pay 5$ for youtube.

I already pay 5 for mail (and 4 for vpn).

I would pay 5 for a photo gallery for family only.

abricot··on 24-core CPU and I can’t type an email
It is for Samsung and iOS users. Both have the option of installing adblockers.
abricot··on LaTeX TikZ for Cryptographers
I agree. Most scientific fields could benefit by having access to a repository of models and diagrams that are easily[1] modifiable.

[1] for some values of easy.

abricot··on Selfie: new book explores how we became so self-obsessed
They prefer to be called women. This is an important detail if you want to know more of them.
abricot··on Building Protocols with HTTP
Anything outside of port 80/443 will be blocked at some point.
abricot··on The Truth About Terahertz (2012)
You don't have to go full terahertz for that. Just look at the difference between 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi.
abricot··on Ask HN: What are the things that you have automated in your personal life?

abricot··on Migrating from Jekyll to Hugo

abricot··on Bay Area man must pay $136,000 in tech-support scam against elderly
Well, it wasn't a problem for him. He was still a super hacker on his 18th birthday when he was allowed to touch it again.
abricot··on Casino high-roller database stolen through a thermometer in the lobby fish tank
I think the big difference between reality and a lot of Hollywood hacking is 1. the time it takes 2. how elaborate it always have to be 3. the fact that during the initial exploration they would most likely find an even easier point of attack.
abricot··on Payments is not a consumer product
That's how they do in India.
abricot··on Toys R Us to close all 800 of its U.S. stores
Thank you for the explanation.
abricot··on Toys R Us to close all 800 of its U.S. stores
So, is taking it private a way to avoid scrutiny while they bleed the company dry? Or am I completely wrong?
abricot··on A Reporter Rolled Her Eyes, and China’s Internet Broke
It is a 112% planted question, and a long winded one at that. I would roll my eyes too.
abricot··on Kerbal Space Program Extension Now Available
No. They just aren't assholes.
abricot··on The Quest for a Universal Translator for Old, Obsolete Computer Files
Late 90s floppies and drives were definitely not as good as early 90s and 80s floppies.
abricot··on Paternoster Lifts: Cyclic Chain Elevators with No Buttons, Doors or Stops (2016)
Add 15.5s per floor, no perspiration, bring a cup of coffee.

Sure, if you love stairs by all means take them. But no, it's just not convenient on the same level.

Add the email to a virtual address config file.
abricot··on Paternoster Lifts: Cyclic Chain Elevators with No Buttons, Doors or Stops (2016)
I work in a building with one. It takes 15.5 seconds between floors, wich is a bit slower than our elevators, but because there is no door, buttons and usually no queue it really is very quick.

In the course of the day it makes moving between adjacent floors for meetings completely effortless.

abricot··on Stack Overflow: Support for OpenID Ends on July 1, 2018
I create an email for every site. I can recommend it.
