Why not a lillygo T-Watch? It's a bit more expensive, but it's a solid one with good specs and an esp32 https://github.com/Xinyuan-LilyGO/TTGO_TWatch_Library

lol, that's fine ...

They export bombs that kill hundreds (of children and women) per day in Gaza !

abdellah123··on Disillusioned with Deno
To the point. Couldn't agree more.

Top 3 issues with Deno:

- VC backed. Bubbles burst and priorities change, profit over "consumers"!

- 2 runtimes: Deno deploy is NOT the same as open source Deno.

- Self-hosting (freedom) is in odds with the company's business model. Also joins point 2

abdellah123··on 95% of container ships are now going around the Southern Tip of Africa
This is very good news. Governments and companies now have an incentive to stop the Genocide in Gaza. 1% of Gaza population died in 3 months.

At this rate, it will take less 25 years to finish them all. And this is in the most optimistic sense ... Hospitals are destroyed, no access to food and water and houses are destroyed ... They could finish their job in 10 years

For comparison, Russian aggression on Ukraine lasted almost 2 years now. If Israel continues its genocide for "just" 2 years, this means killing 10% of the population.

abdellah123··on Rattled U.S. government fears wars could spread
This is the problem with propaganda. People outsource news verifications to Media outlets.

And it's not hidden that the West and Israel control most of it. So when they say we have proof verified by our journalists ... It's equivalent to have proofs verified by the attorney of one side presented to a judge as TRUTH!!

You need to see the proofs of both sides and judge for yourself. Israel has a track record of lying, and so does Biden.

The most basic lie is one stated at the beginning of the war [1]. And the worst part is that lying to 100M+ people is irreversible. It doesn't matter if you back off later. A 5yo child was killed in the US because of that FALSE claim.

abdellah123··on Rattled U.S. government fears wars could spread
> anti-American warnings of Arab nations after they thought — incorrectly — Israel struck a hospital in Gaza, killing hundreds.

This is utterly rubbish and unprofessional journalism. There are many proofs this was done by an Israeli raid !!

The simplest one is that the Palestinians never had weapons that powerful. Also there is real-time video of the moment the raid happened.

Incorrectly is not a word a journalist says. It's propaganda !! and sadly propaganda to cover up a genocide.

abdellah123··on MemGPT: Towards LLMs as Operating Systems

Very interesting.

abdellah123··on Why Is the Front End Stack So Complicated?
One of the reasons is that users' expectations of UX rised with 1-2 orders of magnitude in the last 2 decades.

Whereas the platform (the web) and the languages (HTML, JS and CSS) do not offer a cohesive answer to those expectations. It's all just bits and pieces of improvement here and there.

Often the frameworks that aim to solve this use abstractions over these languages and APIs (e.g the DOM, routing). And these abstractions (ts, jsx, react, css-in-js, tailwind ...) are not a cohesive unit and bring back the same/more friction that's inherent to the web - 3 languages trying to play with each other) - ...

... But this time with even more "parts" and abstractions.

Web technologies weren't designed to build web apps. And since a re-design/rewrite is off the shelf, we're content with small improvements that add improvements but also increase friction.

We do need to rethink this.

abdellah123··on The Economics of Programming Languages [video]
Another very successful way to go about building a language is Imba.

Build a successful product with new lang https://scrimba.com, make sure the product's very hard to Jeff and take VC money.

Now you can work on the language as you please, and they can't Jeff you since nobody else can build something similar (not in a reasonable amount of time anyway)

P.S: taking VC money is optional. Scrimba is profitable so it wasn't necessary.

abdellah123··on Making a music library without a SPA
Going through the docs, nothing there about how to edit state?
abdellah123··on Deno Queues
I'm excited about the recent Jupyter support and this queues.. Super cool stuff.

But I won't write servers in Deno and put them to production in my own servers. (I don't like serverless)

You see, Deno(and Bun)'s business model is built around serverless (Deno deploy). And Deno deploy is ANOTHER runtime.

It's clear with KV and queues... Locally and if you self host, you have a barely working version backed by another tech...

This means you're self hosting a version of Deno that's different from the majority of the Deno customer base.

How many people will use Deno to run servers on their own hardware? Since that number is low, then I'd rather use Node.

abdellah123··on Imba – A friendly full-stack language
it's actually very old! Even older than React
abdellah123··on Imba – A friendly full-stack language
the point is there is no need for "reactivity" constructs. Organize your "state" the way you want.

tag App

  counter = 0

  <self>
    <button @click=counter++> "{counter}"
imba.mount <App>

it doesn't have to be anything. You're free to organize your code as you wish: colocate, in a different file ... the compiler doesn't transform the variable in any way, nor does it track its "mutation", it "just" "rerenders" on every change. And it's super fast too!
