To me it seems completely congruent with your quotation.
It might not be a highly visible downside, but it's there nonetheless. It's better to be honest about that than pretend there is no cultural tradeoff that comes with making such a (IMO) terrible design decision in a language.
There are plenty of people that feel the same way about sigils (like `$foo` in Perl) and semi-colons. I've never understood it -- and likely never will, at this point -- but I don't pretend that there isn't a real demographic effect that these choices bring with them.
Seems like you haven’t had much time with the history of company towns and company stores.
Do a bit of research on ADHD. Maybe look into mortality rates between medicated and unmedicated ADHD. Consider for a moment why stimulants are prescribed for ADHD in the first place, and not for anything else.
If you do the above and still can’t see how a simple test like this is more accurate and scientific than a subjective quiz that can be studied against, then I hate to inform you but you are not as objective a thinker as you might expect you are.
This is coupled by response time markers as well as success rate.
And no one in this thread said superior. They said different.
Those with ADHD will respond positively in the tracked markers when given medication. Those without ADHD will respond worse.
That’s as nested as you’ll get me to go today. Blessings!
BC/AD already exists, there is no reason for Christian activists to try and neologize our neologism.
Why do you think one should get away with trying to rewrite the very acronym that exists to not reference a religion into being a direct reference to a religion?
Furthermore, Big Oil notoriously suppressed any hint of their internal climate change models from being published and hired the same marketing firms that Big Tobacco employed.
Modern day SPAs are far, far worse offenders when it comes to smothering resources.
It also highlights that just because you were classifiable as AUD, you won’t necessarily be so classifiable for the rest of your life.
The language of alcoholism often mirrors sermons of eternal damnation. Not a particularly inspiring starting point for treatment and a big reason why most people who succeed in getting past AUD don’t do it in groups that preach this eternal damnation angle.
Seriously, the moralizing of life expectancy makes no sense. Let us each optimize for our own idea of a good life.
Or was there issue more intrinsic to the design of the language itself?
I’m trying to imagine using it without the stream API just shuts my entire brain down. Records arrived pretty recently and are already essential for me.
You will always have to pay me to program Java, but you’d have to pay me 5x my current salary to do it in Java 8 or earlier.
Fair point about the before and after Caeser. The historical record is pretty clear that enormous volumes of Gauls died during their “civilization” at the hands of Rome.
It’s true that populations that have already been brutalized into an empire are easier to absorb by other empires. I guess I was responding to the language you were using that (to me) presumes that being smashed down and genocided into the murky doublethink of empire is a net positive for the cultures being rapaciously absorbed against their will.
Considering this is simply a religious statement posing as an assertion of fact, I would argue it is anti-intellectual to an extreme.
Please share some libertarian paradises where this has proven true. How’s Kentucky doing again?
Humans are complex and when you already changed the course of history by 25 or whatever, you are going to be even more complex.
I don’t idolize Steve Jobs but I do find him to contrast positively against other similar figures like Gates and Ellison. Low bars, I know. But I guess I wanted to defend that people can have a soft spot for Jobs without ever making a dime from any of his endeavors.
Then multiple inheritance is much cleaner because you can test constructor arguments against the union of these invariants before even hitting a constructor.
Note that I’ve never used it, but it did strike me that this was “the” way to include multiple inheritance in a language. But for some reason (run time performance maybe?) no one else seems to have done it this way.
You can write spaghetti in any language or paradigm. People will go overboard on DRY while ignoring that inheritance is more or less just a mechanism for achieving DRY for methods and fields.
FP wizards can easily turn your codebase into a complex organism that is just as “impenetrable” as OOP. But as you say, fads are fads are fads, and OOP was the previous fad so it behooves anyone who wants to look “up to date” to be performative about how they know better.
Personally I think it’s obvious that anyone passing around structs that contain data and functions that act on that data is the same concept as passing around objects. I expect you can even base a trait off of another trait in Rust.
But don’t dare call it what it actually is, because this industry really is as petulant as you describe.
EDIT: The “world wide web” also played a major role in kneecapping the funding sources of journalism. But failing outlets could not simply be swallowed by conglomerates without the aforementioned liberalization of media ownership.
