aabalkan··on Ben Noordhuis's Departure
For those who don't know the background of the story:

[2] http://strongloop.com/strongblog/collaboration-not-derision-...

As said in [2]:

If Ben can’t learn, we’ll fire him. [Edit: See comment
below. This is not meant literally.]
that seems like the result.
aabalkan··on My deadly disease was just a 23andme bug
Why your character encoding is broken on your blog post?
aabalkan··on Hgraph – Your health in one picture
Neat design indeed. I believe there's a room for design in health reporting for patients so they can understand the situation better. Did you submit this design to Dribbble? I think designers can learn from your work.
aabalkan··on FDA Warning Letter to 23andMe
It's been years since 23andMe is out and FDA just noticed? Or am I getting it wrong?
aabalkan··on FDA Warning Letter to 23andMe
1. They sign a terms of use agreement. 2. 23andMe asks for "are you sure, this can have impact on your health?" when you want to see your health risks. 3. 23AndMe interface has health risks with a "confidence level", for example, my Alzheimer's probability is 10% higher than avg risk and confidence level is 4/4.

I find your argument invalid. If they get an approval from FDA, is it going to change their data processing logic or data set?

aabalkan··on Ripple is officially open-source
Note that this news is a month old.
aabalkan··on Motherfucking Website
There was a similar article on HN a few months back. It was saying, there's no fancy javascript, css and yet you are still reading... Does anyone remember that? It is closely related to this.
aabalkan··on Google Account Recovery Vulnerability
> Google security team acted really fast. This issue was fixed in 10 days.

Wow I couldn't imagine how long a 'slower' response cloud be.

aabalkan··on Show HN: IP Lookup
What is the database behind all these geo IP providers? I see many APIs providing same functionality and results are the same. Is this database purchased from somewhere every time you want to do this?
aabalkan··on GitHub Résumé
This project is at least 3 years old. Interesting it has got picked up by HN folks again. For those not familiar with GitHub pages, somebody got username "resume" in order to create this page. I had to explain this because this actually looks like something GitHub launched, just like http://status.github.com/ but it is not.
aabalkan··on GoConvey: Go testing in the browser
I am fairly impressed with this actually. Live code refresh and showing results in the browser is very cool. Definitely this project can be extended to have OS-level notifications with the help of browsers (e.g. Chrome).

Also this approach can be adopted in many languages which doesn't have a rich IDE (e.g. Visual Studio or XCode). Are there any similar tools you know of in other languages?

aabalkan··on Show HN: SnpCht.com, a site that lets you secretly save your unread snapchats
I don't trust you. Please make this open source so I can host it myself. (or even better, a desktop application for other people as well).

If you don't, pretty sure somebody will do.

aabalkan··on Questions to ask your potential employer
Take a look at this post for specifically web developer positions:

"Questions to ask your future web dev employer" https://medium.com/what-i-learned-building/f7a161b5bc70

aabalkan··on Wounded QR Codes
I managed to read most of the codes he marked as unreadable in QRReader iOS app. I don't know what he used. But kinda interesting article.
aabalkan··on UW Professor Achieves Breakthrough in Understanding Superconductivity Properties
Their website also says UW. That surprised me as well. I didn't know another UW existed at all.
aabalkan··on Show HN: Open-sourcing my rejected iOS app, In-Stock
They asked me how I find out exactly how many iPhones left in a Store and I tell them I am using their AJAX call on mobile clients.

Even though I create a proxy, they had to validate how accurate my data is and how I get it. So building a proxy won't help either I suppose. See other comments here regarding a DCMA takedown happened yesterday for a website launched very recently doing the same thing. This is just scary.

aabalkan··on Show HN: Open-sourcing my rejected iOS app, In-Stock
Wow, that's big. Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't know what could be the potential consequences of releasing this app. Apple really does not care if you are making things easier for people as well as them.
aabalkan··on Show HN: Open-sourcing my rejected iOS app, In-Stock
Not at all, but I won't be doing it I guess. If you'd like to pick this up, logic is out there. It has a bit of manual work for getting SKU numbers of products but I'm pretty sure it is doable.
aabalkan··on Tap your iPhone to unlock your Mac
I'm getting this JS error: Uncaught You must specify your applicationId using Parse.initialize

while submitting my email. If owners of project are here, I'm using Chrome on Windows.

aabalkan··on iGoogle switched off
Wow it's been at least 6 years I haven't heard about Netvibes. It was a so-called Web 2.0 pioneer. Is it still out there? Let me check my account..
aabalkan··on HealthCare.gov deferred final security check, could leak personal data
Seriously I'm thinking that whoever developed HealthCare.gov did not know anything about web development. I knew that one doesn't simply add usernames passwords to URLs when I was f*cking 12 years old. I am even more surprised that no one ever audited their security and US citizens are not asking government what the heck the money is gone to. That's a reason that many government officials should immediately resign from their positions.
aabalkan··on Facebook Reportedly Offered $1 Billion to Acquire Snapchat
Story also says that it happened a lot time ago.
aabalkan··on Ask HN: What are you working on and why is it cool?
I've just completed Dailybbble http://dailybbble.herokuapp.com/ it sends you emails with best Dribbble designs of the day. It's cool because I always visited dribbble.com to see populars, now they're at my inbox at every 9am.

There are already hundreds of subscribers in the list. That excites me.

aabalkan··on It’s time to say goodbye
Was this Any.do or not?
aabalkan··on Tweetbot 3
That's not the same thing. Why are you comparing consumables with software? I don't care how much Tweetbot costs, if it does the job, I can pay $30, but I when I buy it, I must know the release policy of the publisher.

Is it going to be Microsoft Office where I have to pay for upgrades? Or is it going to be like Instapaper, a lifetime purchase? This is the point I tried to make.

aabalkan··on Tweetbot 3
I am really pissed off when the app producers release major versions of their apps as a new app in the store so you have to purchase again. Same thing happened with Reeder app (which is a prominent RSS reader) or Shares app.

I already pay you $5-$10-$15 whatever to trust that this will be a lifetime purchase. Why would app developers do it? Why does Apple allow this? If I develop an app and publish 10 versions (all has new features every time) as a new app in the store, is it legitimate at all?

Anyway I purchased this one as well but it is not about $2.99, it is about the brand and I started to hate Tapbots. When Twitter releases a better client, I will throw the app I paid for away just because I don't Tapbots apps anymore.

aabalkan··on Microsoft reports record first-quarter revenue of $18.53 billion
Stock price just hit after hours $35.63 (up 5%), good news for Microsoft employees indeed.
aabalkan··on Maptcha: An Experiment in Map-Based CAPTCHA
Apparently street view cars are also considered as satellite photos.
