a1o··on 4.5M Suspected Fake Stars in GitHub
Not directly related, but I have seen Ads in Stack overflow for GitHub repositories - not any notable repository, clearly just random people trying to get some stars for reasons.
a1o··on TinyStories: How Small Can Language Models Be and Still Speak Coherent English? (2023)
I have no interest in that, I would like small models that I can integrate and run offline in software that I make it myself be IDEs or games. CLion has a nice predictive model for single line C++ completion that has 400 MBs.
a1o··on Show HN: Killed by LLM – I catalogued AI benchmarks we thought would last years
Btw the conversation with the robot is super robot like because in real life people send double, triple, five separate messages in a row and mix topics and different conversations. It still feels very robot like for me.
a1o··on Show HN: Killed by LLM – I catalogued AI benchmarks we thought would last years
Thank you for the links!

There is a square with arrow like the Volvo logo that suggests things are clickable (to get more information?) , I tried to tap the turing test one in different places but nothing happened - I am on iPhone with Safari.
a1o··on TinyStories: How Small Can Language Models Be and Still Speak Coherent English? (2023)
What is tiny and what is big?

Can I have a model that is like 100MB in weights and run with llama.cpp in my MacBook M2?

a1o··on Bogus Software
I think the default go for solitaire from MS now has either Ads or subscription.
a1o··on The GPU, not the TPM, is the root of hardware DRM

a1o··on DOS live USB image with tools for writers
There is a Win98 x86 retro portable new laptop available to buy in some websites. I wonder if this could work in that computer making it some nice portable typing machine - although I don't remember if the keyboard in those laptop are ok to type or not.
a1o··on For four years, I photographed, indexed and classified my entire house
Very slow to load. Also, I find these about written in third person very weird.
a1o··on Amiga Games Released in 2024 Index
> Crysis (Prototype)

I was not expecting that. Looks interesting in the itch page!

Also I really liked the Untangle one. I think I played something like that a billion years ago.

a1o··on I wrote a Game Boy Advance game in Zig
The python from Windows Store is not good, it redirects some path writes and will make the debugging experience of tools using python dreadful. Always install from the win32 installer from the website.
a1o··on Pigment Mixing into Digital Painting
The implementation looks fairly small unless I am missing something

https://github.com/scrtwpns/mixbox/blob/master/cpp/mixbox.cp...

Like, it looks like just decompress that lut and have it decompressed in the project and the rest is just interpolation algorithms.

a1o··on How to Create HTML/ZIP/PNG Polyglot Files
I am also on my phone and found it weird that wasn't a single online demo
a1o··on Reverse Engineering the Stream Deck+
Yeah, it was HEIC that brought me to nomacs, I never heard of the format until I switched the phone for an iPhone.
a1o··on Reverse Engineering the Stream Deck+
It looks like it's rounded so I think it is Windows 11, but surprisingly it is using the photoviewer from the Vista era.

I didn't knew it was apparently still included in newer windows, I switched to nomacs as the image viewer in my Win11 because I disliked the new image viewer - it's usually slow, and it has weird controls for a desktop system.

a1o··on CRT Simulation in a GPU Shader, Looks Better Than Black Frame Insertion
I only get an hyphen on the iPhone
a1o··on The fair dreamed up by art legends – unsealed after 44 years
Very different feels from the fair in the grass field in Hamburg to the assembled one in the dark place.
a1o··on Why making friends as an adult is harder
Yeah, I was quite happy it wasn't AI. Glad I wasn't alone. Merry Christmas. :)
a1o··on Why making friends as an adult is harder
This is the first time I heard of Dupe photos: https://dupephotos.com/ , they look more amateur but feel more human.
a1o··on Why Are Cancer Guidelines Stuck in PDFs?
I parsed some mind maps that were constructed with a tool and exported as pdfs (original sources were lost a long time ago) and I used python with tesseract for the text and opencv and it worked alright. I am curious why the author went with LLMs, but I guess with the mentioned amount of data it wasn't hard to recheck everything later.
a1o··on What happened to the world's largest tube TV? [video]
400 lbs -> 181 kg
a1o··on The CD Pipeline Manifesto
If you stick with what is in common between ninja build and Makefiles, and comment any usage you do of what isn't, the file will mostly mention a series of inputs -> box -> outputs. What happens is make will dispatch in a way that the inputs are all satisfied. It works fine afaict, the only issue is make doesn't contain by itself the tools that it expects to be available in your environment, so you will still need something else to solve that.
a1o··on The CD Pipeline Manifesto
I don't think this is reasonable if you have a cross platform (web, android, iOS, macOS, Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, ...) app, things won't be that clean, that only works if whatever you do is very simple, otherwise there will be some patchwork to build and test across all platforms - there's just no way to run all of them local in your single platform computer whatever that is. Honestly a lot of what is there is not that useful, I don't need types in the pipeline when scripting python for build integration logic, there's nothing that types brings that are a must in that case.
a1o··on Rosetta 2 creator leaves Apple to work on Lean full-time
Thank you!
a1o··on Long Term Software Development
What I found mostly curious is I didn't even knew phyton 3.15 had already released
a1o··on Rosetta 2 creator leaves Apple to work on Lean full-time
How does Lean compares with Coq? (I am not familiar with Lean but am familiar with Coq)
a1o··on Nullboard: Kanban board in a single HTML file
This doesn’t work on iPhone Safari for dragging things
a1o··on Lou's Pseudo 3D Page (2013)
I implemented this in Adventure Game Studio following that page seven years ago.
a1o··on macOS 15.2 breaks the ability to copy the OS to another drive
Well, Apple has a super weird bug tracker that you can report stuff but you are kept super in the dark - I remember reporting Safari bugs in the early days of WASM and it was zero communication until the bug got fixed.
