I use notepad++ in the same way without guilt, I also have a paper notebook where I write things in the same random chaos. In the past I had at a time a LG monitor that had really large bezels and I used to glue post its to it all the time as my "temporary" notes.
Most of note taking applications I tried attempt to convince all my text is important and must be stored and if possible classified and that's just not how my relationship with physical notes is.
I don't know but I really wish it was possible to have the web desktop in mobile, GitHub has a terrible app that can't do anything and even worse mobile view. In the past it was possible to tell it to run the desktop version of the website with the browser setting but this isn't possible anymore. I have a very big phone, it's screen has a ton of pixels, just give me a grown up UI exactly like the desktop instead of the dumbed down, way too zoomed in whatever thing you are offering on mobile.
> We all know what the word preppy means, right? It’s the word we use to describe those rich kids that look down on anyone whose shoes cost less than a car. It’s the perfect word to describe the pompousness and snootiness of the crustiest of the upper crust.
This is pretty interesting, and well documented. Great work! I wonder if there is a way to turn off notifications or if the approach is to simply not run such apps.
Hey, if one is only using apache and serving static files, is there any security issue one needs to be in the lookout? I was surprised fail2ban was the only thing installed there and it seems reliably working.
Excellent write up! This is not the first blog post I see in recent times on going to owning infrastructure direction, but it is certainly well written and I liked the use of Excel in it, a good use, although visually daunting!
I am happily imagining opening a recent Apple device and seeing 74 gates with through holes in green PCBs, with an Apple logo made in soldering lead marking in the corner of the board.
It may be a 701, but I need to find which box it's in to actually check. It has a 7 inch screen, it's old but still holds charge in the battery for 2h at least, has a long charging cable, my only "mod" was to upgrade the RAM to 2GB, and it has a 4GB SSD I think - I have a card in it with 16GB and it runs a never updated version of crunchbang that was installed I really don't remember when - it doesn't go online ever, so it's fine. The last thing I did in it was to replay Illusion of Gaia using an emulator.
I don't use the phone productively, everything I tried I endup concluding it can't do? So it's only use is complaining about things in hacker news for killing time.
The most recent idea was trying to use it for sounds but I had the mentioned issue. Does the lavalier works for environment sounds or you only use for voice?
That is fun, I have an EEEPC 207g, those smaller ones. It still works, but I never thought about retro gaming with it - mine is just "collecting dust", it would be fun to try these things on it!
Yes, I understand. Currently the way I do is I use my laptop, a T14s, set it to power efficiency (so it barely turns the fans), turn on Audacity, and use an old headset that has a microphone, and a somehow very long cable - the actual rubber on the headset is long gone and I never replaced it. It serves me well but requires a backpack and it's a weird setup - but it works. I occasionally make games, and it's usually a bit hard to find nice chill nature and environment sounds that have a good quality, are calm and are royalty free (and cheap or free), so I end up capturing these sounds myself.
The experience I described was with the 14 but I also tried in the 15 pro something similar and had same experience.
For now my approach is to use a external microphone with a longer cable and a notebook, and this works, but it would be nice to make this work with the iPhone.
One thing about the iPhone microphone. I had a beautiful day the other day here with some light drizzle and the sea waves were rocking nicely it was a great sound and the beach was empty. Great feeling. I wanted to record this but I only had my iPhone - was just walking in the beach. So neither the default recording app of the iphone and neither any of the ones I tried, could capture the ocean waves or the sound of the drizzle. I had previously (intentionally) set out to the beach with the intent to capture audio and did so with my Laptop + external mic. My conclusion is that unfortunately that is the way it has to be, and that it's not possible to capture audio on a whim as is with photos.
It's made in Adventure Game Studio. It was made in a previous version of the engine that we hadn't optimized yet and I was too lazy to update it on itch page (but will one day). I have a write up there explaining how I made it but there are more details in the AGS forums.
