Related to music and art within Christianity, earlier today my wife had some old saved K-LOVE songs on and I just had to leave the room because it was so.. generic. Like not even vanilla but actually unflavored ice cream. So I’ve been listening to Gungor’s older stuff since then because it actually has creativity and originality to it and I wish Christian music could embrace that. Heck I think if I was in the mood for Christian music I would listen to Schism by Tool sooner than anything ever played on K-LOVE. It seems mainstream Christian music is designed purely to give people semi happy feelings and rake in as much money as possible, and because of that there’s no real art to almost any of it.
I still don’t understand how you can use basic data structure in assembly. I know strings are just allocating a blob of bytes and usually reserving the last for null terminator, but what about arrays? Is it just like in C where you allocate a blob of bytes but now you manually calculate where the index is based on item size? What about hash tables, that seems even more confusing... are they just not needed due to the nature of assembly?
The point is to keep C small and flexible. It supports whatever kind of string implementation needed by the present environment, platform and algorithm.
That said, several “high-level” string libraries for C exist that make it safer, more efficient, etc. Some of them are even pretty clever, allocating extra space right before the C pointer to a null terminated C string that it gives you, so it can do its own bookkeeping.
This is my same experience. The only things I can get Siri to do reliably is to route me home, or to do simple math problems. Also very simple short term reminders.
Tiny Player looks really cool. I really enjoy seeing genuine native macOS software. I feel like it’s becoming a lost art. Is the source code available anywhere?
The way ObjC did it is to use exceptions to signal programmer error, and error objects for program errors. I think it’s the best style, at least until the day programmer errors just won’t compile , but that needs something like Idris to take over.
No. We've definitely mentioned out loud things we've never searched for or even entered into a phone or computer, either before or afterwards, and they've shown up in our ads within hours. It's happening at least once a week now. I'm confident it's not any kind of cognitive bias, and that it's just FB spying on us through our mics.
I might have believed that too, except I know about data profiles and ML, I’m a programmer and can think like that too, and yet I’m still convinced by the examples my wife and our friends personally encounter that there’s no better explanation than that FB is spying on us via the mic and using it to target ads to us.
But I wonder, can their response be trusted? I mean, it's either malice or incompetence or a complete fluke accident, and the third one is the only one they'll admit to, right?
> "when each and every single device is stuck on an old kernel often with a bunch of important CVEs unpatched"
As an iPhone user, I've heard about how one of the benefits of Android is that it's built on OSS, so that if you wanted to have a fully secure phone, you could just download the latest kernel and patches and software and install it yourself. Is this actually possible for Android users?
The AOL dream is sorta realized... AIM is now Facebook Messenger, AOL emphasized keyword search over addresses just like how people just Google everything... maybe that's all actually...
I haven’t used vim in years so I’m not sure what those would be. But yeah it should only take like 20 minutes to add more if I can find a good cheat sheet.
Dunno why you’re downvoted. Noticed this too, if you have a table with slow loading content then the whole thing doesn’t render until all of it can render.
Similarly I made an app the other day to allow custom key shortcuts on macOS. The defaults use vim keys but I plan to eventually add key chords too. https://github.com/sdegutis/Vimac

Wow, this is strange. I understand the reasoning but strongly disagree with it. Not sure if it's a deal-breaker for me though, just... strange.
Just tonight we briefly mentioned garage doors and remote garage door openers, and we got an ad on FB for remote car openers. We haven't looked up any of these things online or anything else, it was a brief discussion that lasted all of 1 or 2 minutes, tops. It's definitely not cross platform tracking, it's got to be microphone listening. I advised her to uninstall FB from her phone, because this is getting obnoxiously creepy.
Running my own server and writing a script to scrape files or even doing it manually is too much work for me, I just don't have the time to dedicate to something like that. That's why I'd pay premium for a service that automates this for me.
On the note of data storage, it's frustrating that I can have photos and videos -- that I intend to keep for the next 50+ years -- spread out between 2 to 4 services (iCloud, Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Photos) just by owning a couple phones and a computer or two, which I imagine is pretty typical. I know there's a start-up idea in here somewhere, because I personally would pay premium to consolidate all those into one organized location, but I don't exactly know what that is. I know Dropbox has an option to import data from other services, but in my experience it hasn't been as "smart", automated, and thorough as I'd like it to be.
On the note of hardware, are there any decent non-Apple smartphones that are small like old iPhones? I miss being able to fit my phone into my front pocket.
