_factor··on Sharing Screen with GPT 4 vision
I couldn’t hear it perfectly, but I’m pretty sure the instructions it provided were to transform the vertices of the cube to make the sphere. It’s like using MS Frontpage. It may look right, but it’s a convoluted mess underneath.
_factor··on Omegle 2009-2023
In developing countries, living conditions improve and reduce the perceived value of work.
_factor··on Hyphens, minus, and dashes in Debian man pages
There should have been a base simple version, and variations of it to keep the keyboard functional. The variations would need to be specifically called out to be used over the simple case. The way it looks now is like a bucket with so many dupes it becomes a mess.
_factor··on Getting RISC-V (again): Milk-V's Mars CM
I have a VF2 up with the Debian image. Unless you want to reflash, apt upgrade is not an option. You have to run a provided shell script to get Firefox and a few other useabilty features.

It works, it boots, the documentation is weak, but it’s a start.

_factor··on Apple’s keynote event shot on iPhone and edited on Mac
This could have been accomplished with an iPhone 8 years ago. For a keynote that 99.9% of the population will watch on YouTube, what is this trying to prove? It's an interesting demonstration, that's about it.
_factor··on I2P: End-to-end encrypted and anonymous internet
With modern tech, I should be able to launch a web server, give you my ipv6 that never changes, route a few ports through fw and we’re good.
_factor··on Open Source Firmware Conference
We may end up with a simple open source implementation surrounded by a number of paid upgrades.
_factor··on Toyota adopts the North American charging standard
You need to look into the latest standards NACS supports. 1000v
_factor··on Not setting up Find My bricked my MacBook
This is more equivalent to garaging your Tesla for 10 years, firing up for a drive and wondering why the cell network no longer works. Tools that require infrastructure are dependent on things that can cease existing one day.
_factor··on Projects Innovating Around RISC-V
Well now that you’ve told them, they’re retooling. The Grand Emperor thanks you.
_factor··on Amino – The Public IPFS DHT Is Getting a Facelift
Funny enough. Interplanetary refers to the ability to know a file created on earth would still hash to the same value if an alien created it on Alpha Centauri. You could both work independently and combine your databases and the distance wouldn’t matter.

That’s seems pretty local to me.

_factor··on Quiet – Encrypted P2P team chat with no servers, just Tor
It’s incredible how tone-deaf to their own tone of voice people can be.
_factor··on Every phone should be able to run personal websites
It’s only a bad thing if we live on a world we can’t breathe on anymore because the air filter guy fell asleep.
_factor··on Temptations of an open-source Chrome extension developer (2021)
No no no. First we start with trusted brands you know and love. We use the trust you have in them to slowly build a market around them. With our ad strategy, you’ll start seeing our product as related to Trusted Brand A. You will start seeing comments and reviews for our Brand in the same browsing contexts more and more until our Brand is now correlated enough to Trusted Brand A to remove purchase inhibitions.

After that, we just wait. We know we have you. It’s just a matter of time till you need a product like ours (you’re already our target demo), or an impulse buy occurs.

Without evening knowing it. You’ve been manipulated into trusting our brand, and you’ll think it was all an organic choice.

Nothing malicious or dangerous here.. move along.

_factor··on Reduction of sulfur emissions from ships may be causing rising sea temperatures
More akin to duck taping the HVAC to avoid an emergency amputation.
_factor··on Hackers manage to unlock Tesla software-locked features
The wasted economy on lugging around the extra weight for a useless seat heater.
_factor··on The theory versus the practice of “static websites”
I agree!

_factor··on Tor’s history of D/DoS attacks and future strategies for mitigation
These are likely nation state actors who have the ability to fund these attacks. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re using advanced techniques to slow down the network and track the routes as they traverse. I would be wary of anonymity while using tor during one of these attacks.
_factor··on Sao Paulo: A city with no outdoor advertisements (2013)
There is no net positive to advertising. Period.

Let me convince you that my product is better than the others by spending money to keep the information abundant and flowing.
