_Codemonkeyism··on Unexpected Page Fault In Virtualized Environment Advisory
Intel feels so much like Boeing now.
_Codemonkeyism··on Keybase cancels Stellar token airdrop
I agree, I think airdrops with Stellar and a wallet on many developer computers could create the critical mass to more crypto applications.
_Codemonkeyism··on A maxed-out Mac Pro will cost you $53,000 – without display
I only have an 8 core iMac Pro worth 6k and to be frank, it crashes sometimes, it sometimes shows the beach ball and overall it's ok but I would have thought I'd get more for the price (compared to the MacBooks etc. I had over the last 15 years).
_Codemonkeyism··on Boeing 737 Max Was Plagued with Production Problems, Whistle-Blower Says
"He worries that once the Max is flying again, Boeing — scrambling to make up for the costly delays — will not have changed."
_Codemonkeyism··on Ask HN: How to improve code quality while maintaining decent velocity?
I'm not gold plating but I've learned to not compromise on code quality. There is a lower level I will not cross, like an engineer who will not build a car without seat belts.
_Codemonkeyism··on TailScale – Instantly interconnect your devices and services, wherever they are
How does it relate to ZeroTier (which I currently use for a lot of things, lately to connect to my NextCloud from my phone)
_Codemonkeyism··on Ask HN: What mistakes did you make when starting as a consultant/freelancer?
Too cheap and not sending early enough invoices, because it felt hard to do while we were still working together. Now I'm more expensive and send invoices right away. If there are troubles with payment I have a better lever and can also stop working with a client.
_Codemonkeyism··on Yoast SEO plugin for WordPress injects Black Friday adverts without permission
Innocence once lost can never be regained.
_Codemonkeyism··on A Century of “Shrill”: How Bias in Technology Has Hurt Women’s Voices
What I always found interesting how children in the US sound "shrill" to my European ear, I think children have much lower voices here in Europe (Germany). Anyone else with the same perception? Or is it just in my imagination?
_Codemonkeyism··on Empathic concern does not reduce partisan animosity: study
You're right, I thought "tested" did include that.
_Codemonkeyism··on Hacker Publishes 2TB of Data from Cayman National Bank
Do you think the money is on those small islands? Or on Guernsey? Or the British Channel Islands? No, the money is in New York and London at the usual banks who earn money on fees and can work with the deposits. The banks on those islands don't have a data center, or a bank vault. They only legally have the money on paper, but "their" money is in the banks in NYC (Caribbean) and London (former Empire).

Interesting read "Treasure Islands: Tax Havens and the Men who Stole the World", Nicholas Shaxson

_Codemonkeyism··on Empathic concern does not reduce partisan animosity: study
I'm not sure how a field of science can work without any established basics. Shouldn't there be a standard, thoroughly tested, agreed upon definition of "empathy" so one can build on top of that?

_Codemonkeyism··on A foundation course in reading German
Sorry don't have any at hand, but I'm from Bavaria and my wife is from Brandenburg so our German gender usage sometimes differs.
_Codemonkeyism··on A foundation course in reading German
Additionally in different parts of Germany the gender of many nouns is different.

I love to listen to Sophie Wilson, the inventor of the ARM instruction set - to me a real geek and hacker.

_Codemonkeyism··on Court: Suspicionless Searches of Travelers’ Phones and Laptops Unconstitutional
So what you say the main thing is, when I declare you a tyrant you are a tyrant.

And because they suppressed (non voting, poor) people in the UK didn't declare their king a tyrant it wasn't one for them.

_Codemonkeyism··on Court: Suspicionless Searches of Travelers’ Phones and Laptops Unconstitutional
<noirony>I would really be interested in case where 'A vigilant and engaged citizen body.' stopped tyranny.</noirony>
_Codemonkeyism··on Court: Suspicionless Searches of Travelers’ Phones and Laptops Unconstitutional
The UK was a tyranny at that time? How would you define tyranny then?
_Codemonkeyism··on Court: Suspicionless Searches of Travelers’ Phones and Laptops Unconstitutional
"The same thing that stops all tyranny. A vigilant and engaged citizen body."

Because I'm interested, what would be the top three situations where that happened that come to your mind?
