The red flag for me is when QA is considered a non-coding team, divorced from product. QA engineers should be very technical, and should be writing code or automating. A non-automated QA process kills the feedback loop of the product.
I agree in theory. Having managers who are also contributing can create an awesome level of trust on a team. In practice, the problem is the "maker's schedule" in software doesn't accommodate time for the constant interruptions of coordination. Swinging an axe is one thing, but software requires large amounts of focused time which is discongruous with management needs.
My understanding is that excess deaths statistic would also COVID deaths. You'd need to subtract COVID deaths from excess deaths. (and be certain that all COVID deaths are reported as such...)
It’s become painfully obvious that the trump admin doesn’t want want testing rolling out too quickly. It would appear as a new wave of infection and spook the all important Stock Markets.
It’s more likely they don’t want testing rolling out too quickly. It would appear as a new wave of infection and spook the all important Stock Markets.
I haven't found a better solution for large meetings (> 50 participants.) Jitsi killed my CPU when I got over 5. Is there something as good as zoom (performance, easy to invite/join) out there for large meetings?
I haven’t been socializing with friends, but playing poker stars VR has given me back the feeling of “getting out of the house” that I have been sorely missing. There can be good conversation and serendipity that I have been lacking in my life, somehow this game manages to scratch that itch.
Calling out a major security flaw would make sense. Calling out clickbait security flaws like 32 bit password truncation in the context of a global pandemic is ridiculous. Zoom will fix things, but there is no better platform to host large, interactive events than zoom.
There is nothing that offers a "brady bunch" view in as scalable way as zoom does. It's enabling types of interaction that aren't available on any other platform.
I'm just asking for things to be put in proper context. These problems are only being highlighted because zoom is providing an extremely valuable service during an unprecidented time. How many lives have been saved due to zoom allowing people to socially distance better? I'd guess quite a lot.
Is anyone else getting tired of all the zoom hate? Yes, they have problems. But this company is holding the world together during a global pandemic. The service has worked great, and it must be a herculean effort to keep things running during all this. Zoom devs, if you're reading this, thank you.
EDIT: I'm somehow being downvoted for expressing my gratitude to zoom for providing a service that is almost certainly saving lives. You're simply amazing HN, never change.
An admirable goal, I suppose. With all the mental health issues stemming from software addiction and negative externalities due to ad revenue, these jobs will be harder and harder to find.
Very cool. I've been doing "the mind illuminated" technique for the past 4 months and it's slow going - I'm assuming because of my ADD. I am, however, far more patient with my children and content with my life in general when I meditate. I haven't seen much improvement in my ADD however, but I'm going to give it a few more months of 1hr / day practice before I try medication.
How long did it take you to see results? I've battled (manageable) ADHD all my life and have been meditating for around a year. I've seen many positive impacts on my life, but the ADHD is still very much a thing I still battle.
Totally agreed. However, when do we stop making this mistake? I think it's worth a callout when a large organization designs a dependency management system with such an obvious flaw on the "happy path".
I didn’t downvote, but the reason is that while CRDTs are indeed awesome, similar results can be achieved by OT. And in many cases more efficiently. So not absolutely critical, strictly speaking :)
I had a very different and difficult experience with depression and meditation. Meditation highlighted the depression / anxiety and made me very aware of it, which made me feel the pain very clearly and deeply. It was like watching my brain stab itself repeatedly for hours on end. Meditation + SSRI is a great combination for me.
Not OP, but I had a similar experience. Getting to the root of things with CBT caused me to completely change my relationship with alcohol. At this point, heavy drinking has become a clear path to increasing my anxiety, and it’s easy to abstain.
