ZeljkoS··on Judge Orders NYPD to Release Records on X-ray Vans
From http://as-e.com/products-solutions/cargo-vehicle-inspection/...:

"Dose to Cargo: Less than 0.1 microSievert (μSv) per scan (equivalent to 10 microRem (μrem)), at an average speed of 5 km/h (3 mph) at a scan distance of 1.5 m (5 ft). Should a stowaway accidentally be scanned, the effective dose is well below the ANSI specified limit for accidental exposure and is equivalent to flying two minutes at altitude."

In other words:

a) "Beam" is not over a small area but over the entire scanning area.

b) The 0.1 μSv dose is for entire cargo.

c) The total body dose in above case is therefore much below 0.1 μSv (because person is much smaller than cargo).

ZeljkoS··on Show HN: Short employment test for HTML/CSS and JavaScript – but with live coding
More info: AFAIK we are the first to offer screening tests for web developers that require live coding in the browser, correct me if I am wrong. We use PhantomJS in the background.
ZeljkoS··on All that is wrong with the Recruitment Industry
Surprising thing is that most recruiters don't want to check if a candidate is actually qualified. We sell live coding tests (www.TestDome.com) and often get the response that testing limits recruiter's "pool" of candidates. Basically, they send everybody with a nice looking resume directly to an interview. Once a recruiter told me: "We tried testing before, but 2 out of 3 candidates failed the test before we could send them to a potential employer. So we stopped." :)

> "Not finishing college" or "low-level technician" should never be reasons to put down someone.

You are completely right, education or job are not the reason to put down anyone. I wanted to point out that if someone approaches you with the biggest inventions in the century but has no credentials, you would be skeptical, wouldn't you? However, you are right, I could said that point much better.

ZeljkoS··on Holding a Program in One's Head (2007)
> It's actually an indictment of our programming tools that they require one to hold so much of the design context in one's head.

Completely true. That is exactly the Bret Victor's point in "Inventing on Principle":

http://worrydream.com/#!/LearnableProgramming

Programming tools (languages, APIs, IDEs) needs to reduce the problem you need to hold in your head.
