YarickR2··on Moderna mRNA sequence released to GitHub [pdf]
IDS with ability to launch countermeasures, and no negative feedback loop
YarickR2··on John Sullivan resign as executive director of the Free Software Foundation
I agree with you on all points. Freedom of speech is the same as freedom of thought. Actions should be punishable, words shouldn't
YarickR2··on Is that ship still stuck?
Just set up a ski lift-like structure on both sides of a canal, and run it with containers instead of skiers
YarickR2··on Is that ship still stuck?
Build a huge cover all around the ship, plant the nuke under the keel, boom we have a splash and the ship evaporates , canal is deeper and wider there
YarickR2··on Is that ship still stuck?
Call the Israelis, they have nukes. Obviously, Suez needs to be made deeper and wider at this point anyway
YarickR2··on Pollution from fossil fuel combustion deadlier than previously thought
This is not primarily about cars, as some would've concluded from the headline
YarickR2··on As U.S. schools shuttered, student mental health cratered, survey finds
Spending in general is not a universal or meaningful metric to measure quality of education, details matter. Huge sums spent on school security/meals/transportation do nothing to increase quality of schooling compared to countries where all those measures are unnecessary (safe urban environments with parents able to feed kids by themselves)
YarickR2··on ‘The Little Mermaid’ Was Way More Subversive Than You Realized (2019)
What if it's just a musical, without any hidden meaning, and no ideological messages ? No, that's bullshit, everything must be a product of some kind of conspiracy
YarickR2··on My bank sent me 64 copies of the same debit card
Russia. Until recently mail (of snail mail variety) was notoriously unreliable, and mailboxes in row houses are out of the owner's sight and easily breachable
YarickR2··on U.S. senators reintroduce bill to make daylight saving time permanent
Hold the vampire, bring garlic !
YarickR2··on The Uyghur Genocide: An examination of breaches of the 1948 Genocide Convention
Exactly, and competitors could easily prove such claims as lies, by pointing out second level suppliers being affiliated with China; guilty by association. We're effectively trapped in one cage with China, with no easy way out.
YarickR2··on What Happens Inside a 100-Hop IPv6 Wireless Mesh Network?
Haven't read article yet - did they reinvent BGP or tuned it for small scale networks and kept full view on each node ?
YarickR2··on Someone is hacking the hackers
Brain drain, infosec edition. Pandemic struck, and suddenly relocation is all the rage. I know a few infosec guys moving from Russia to various places outside of reach of local law enforcement (and "law enforcement") agencies . Next steps are usually easy to guess - infosec guys are doing what they were doing before, but for new management, and with new targets (ex-allies) in sight. Just a wild guess, of course.
YarickR2··on Dr. Seuss books deemed offensive will be delisted from eBay
My eyes are straight, and I'm keeping myself proud on being helpful to others.
YarickR2··on Dr. Seuss books deemed offensive will be delisted from eBay
Let's be fair, this is just an opinion, and very subjective at that
YarickR2··on SolarWinds CEO blames intern for password leak
Well, a lot of companies are doing it in reverse , by not properly securing test sites, and bringing live sensitive data from prod to test . I don't know which is worse
YarickR2··on Griddy Is Shutting Down
Man, I appreciate you explaining all this in such a plain and emotional terms; you have one green energy convert right now.
YarickR2··on Tesla is shifting from nickel to iron cathode on standard range car's batteries
No they do not. They need winterized diesel fuel (kerosene added), but that's it. -30C was a "nothing special" for BMW N47 engine to start. -37C is a pour point of 0w40 engine oil, but higher temps are fine in terms of cold engine startups
YarickR2··on Activists who embrace nuclear power
Correct answer. Floating nuclear power plant recently went operational , supplying arctic city with electricity ; it was built in two years, top to bottom. I wonder if couple of those in the Gulf of Mexico could've secured oil refineries' energy supply, allowing grid operators to divert more conventionally generated power to residential areas, diminishing blackouts
YarickR2··on Activists who embrace nuclear power
I wouldn't be so sure about cobstruction costs either. Reactors are being built elsewhere in the world all the time, and I doubt foreign finance guys are less smart or safety codes are less strict
YarickR2··on Activists who embrace nuclear power
Potable water, flushable toilet, heat insulated pipes.
YarickR2··on What went wrong with the Texas power grid?
They take a year to build, and can be mobile.

YarickR2··on Clubhouse user IDs, Chatroom IDs are transmitted in plaintext over the internet
Like somehow you're the judge the jury and the executioner of said conpanies. Don't use their product.
YarickR2··on Clubhouse user IDs, Chatroom IDs are transmitted in plaintext over the internet
and why not ? Why do you insist everything should be encrypted ?
YarickR2··on WhatsApp and the Domestication of Users
app usage data is collected all the time, in form of server logs, and you shouldn't expect this to change. We should be able to opt into using our data for marketing purposes, getting various benefits in return, but that should be opt in , not opt out. Still , this begs a question, what could be attributed as marketing purpose
YarickR2··on The nihilism of r/wallstreetbets
Well, not that anyone is forced to participate in the market, especially knowing about intentionally irrational players.
YarickR2··on 2 times 3 can sometimes equal 7 with Android's Neural Network API
Well, every tool has it's own range of use cases; doing integer math is not a use case for a guesstimate engine .
YarickR2··on Facebook Disabled My Account After I Criticized Them
Count me as having the same thoughts. We may never know if some decisions are made by a trained cadre of monkeys or AI
YarickR2··on 90% of Everything Is Crap
90% of people are crap too ? That's mean
YarickR2··on China CCP to Nationalize Jack Ma's Alibaba and Ant Group – Report
As a former Soviet Union citizen I could say putting any organization on the same level as Radio Free Europe, or Voice of America, is the greatest shame for any news source. Those government funded mouthpieces serve one function, and one function only - to discredit ruling party, and sow dissent and discord. Gloves are off.
