Xiol32··on Is primary OS a dealbreaker for you (when taking a new job)?
I would not take a job that required me to use Windows.

I would begrudgingly accept a Mac, but my preference is Linux.

The majority of people 'just work here'. Having equity is not the norm.
Xiol32··on Terraform Cloud Pricing Changes Sticker Shock
Until very recently we were exclusively deploying on-prem and had been for over 20 years. The amount of tooling we had to write ourselves to get even a semblance of modern devops practices is insane. Absolutely no one supports the deployment methods and requirements we have, so it was either hacking existing things to do what we want, or writing our own stuff.

My team maintains our own Terraform providers, Ansible playbooks, bare metal management infra, CLI tooling, network automation, ITSM integration, on-prem Kubernetes running on metal in our own DCs, on-prem CI/CD, on-prem Gitlab, evolving IDP, etc.

Syncthing is so good. I wish more people would use it. Onboarding is certainly more complex than just using Onedrive or installing Dropbox, but once it's set up it just stays out of the way and works.
Xiol32··on I like gentoo's package deprecation process
Plenty of arguing with my parents to let me leave the computer on overnight to finish compiling KDE 3 on a Pentium 4.

Fedora. I use Linux for work and have kids, don't have the luxury to tinker as much as I used to.

A comment I could have written word for word.

Not hyperbole to say that Gentoo set the course of my life. I don't use it anymore, but I'll never forget my time with it.

Long may it continue.

No OP, but UK keyboard layout on Apple devices sucks, seperately from overriding decades of muscle memory reaching for cmd instead of ctrl. Could never get used to UI/workflow. No native window snapping (back in the day at least). Workarounds required for a lot of my tooling, no native containers, until recently no native VM solution (believe UTM solves this). Brew.

As a disclaimer I do think Linux with Gnome provides the absolute best developer experience so you can take all my opinions with that in hand.

The part of my town where I grew up was built on the grounds of a WWII ordnance factory. Used to walk past an old pillbox daily on the way to school.
