X4··on Raphters: A web framework for C
Oh yeah. Duda.IO totally rocks! Used it, love it!

Psst: There are very nice improvements coming to that project …

X4··on The NSA: An Inside View
Yes, but why can Loren Sands-Ramshaw use a blog, where he critics his employer and also use Kickstarter without getting fired? Not that I want him to get fired, but I worry that he risks his job in telling us this critical information!

Aren't those things, a spy shouldn't have? Is the working strategy, filling the web with disinformation about NSA employees, or is it to never use the web with a real identity for the period of contractual employment?

I mean, from a technological standpoint, every single HN member would love to work for the NSA. Because they have an extremely sophisticated set of technology that people would like to get their hands on. (Well, that's at least what we think they have). Keep in mind though, that in reality only a very small percentage of HN would actually like to work for the NSA! This is not because of the recent revelations, but because the government in general has not a positive image for most hackers.

X4··on Google Acquires Boston Dynamics
ok, now I'm a little afraid.

The self driving car + mega ships + quantum computers + boston dynamics = what, war drones?

X4··on Ask HN: What position should a generalist apply for?
hmm, I'm in the same boat and just finished my compsci degree. Any advice would be awesome!
X4··on Ashton Kutcher launches A+: discover the best products through friends
Oh weird..

The first time a friend force-signed me up on facebook I only got ads for High-Frequency Trading and High-End Dedicated Servers.

On A+ I'm getting ads for a Ferrari's, BMW's, a Martin JetPack, Ducati's a $2.5m Pagani Zonda Revolucion and similar stuff, like 24k Gold iPhone Cases …

Hah, either something is really wrong with my browsing habits, or these sites suck at targeting my habits. For those who wonder, the last time I searched for Cars must be 6 or 7 years ago and I don't search for jewelery or jetpacks. I also never search for sports, pop, music or anything popular, really. Dear Ashton, I wish I was rich enough to buy that car, but I feel a little pressed when a site expects me to be rich.

The system probably mistakes me for an investor or a vc like Kutcher himself.

Ok, off to work, let's get rich or die trying.

X4··on Mainframe2: Run any software in a browser
I tried with Firefox 25 and Google Chrome 31. Doesn't work on any of them. "I'm getting: Your browser is not supported"
X4··on US drone strike kills 15 civilians in Yemen by mistake
Isn't that illegal? Or is that legal, because there is officially war between American and Yemen? (serious)

I thought the legal implications of terminating people from a foreign country remotely is either an act of aggression or already war, depending on how the affected political party sees it.

So either it means:

a) America would have to pay for the losses and families.

b) Yemen and America are in war.

c) Yemen capitulated against America.

Otherwise I don't understand. :-/

(Sorry, if someone feels that this is too logical, non-emotional. I'm of course, against killing and drone attacks.)

Yes, Snowden was everywhere for a long time in the media. But that doesn't change even a bit. Yes, we people were and are concerned, but as you may have heard in the media response. Otherwise it wouldn't keep aired for so long, just because of honest journalism. They need money too.

Keep in mind that the "Snowden Affair" only reflects the morale of the citizen, not that of the government ruling their citizen. And the media can show it as often as they wish, but the German folk is the last to stand up for it. That's really no pessimism. I can see that there are protests in almost every country in the world against Governments, for all kinds of reasons. I don't know exactly why, but protests in Germany are much smaller and less frequent. I wish I knew why. Friends keep telling me that the folk is numb and doesn't care anymore, but I can't believe that. The situation is far worse in Italy and France where the entire media is ruled and owned by just one person for each country. However, that doesn't really help us.

We're probably the first nation, that officially "fired" it's president (Wulff). According to him, it's all because he called and threatened the Media, which started the anti Wulff campaign. That resulted in the media humiliating his credibility publicly. However, he wasn't without fault, because he was cheapish and accepted offers from the industry. Now he's at court, because of this! You can see this kind selfishness spread through the whole political landscape in Germany.

We have many parties, but only two that count: The red & The black party. Other parties are just their allies or help them to rip votes from their enemies. These main parties are very similar to the USA and represent the democrats vs conservatists.

     * The Red (SPD) party originally represented "The Workers"..
     * The Green (Grüne) party originally stood for the "The Environment & Green Energy".
     * The Black (CDU & CSU) party still represent the "Conservative pro Economy & Industry opportunists".
     * The Left party originally represented "leftism", but now just fights for survival and represents popular ideas.
That back-story was needed, so that you can imagine how lost the fight is. Currently it's as clear as never before, that all political parties agree on most points. Interestingly, they keep their meetings and agreements secret from the public. But announce things like agreements between the Green, Black and Red party. Should be shocking, but you can't be shocked when it's slowly introduced like this.
X4··on Backpacker stripped of tech gear at Auckland Airport
hmm, sorry. I thought that shipping the package using the regular air-mail service of the government would be an option.

You can still save the data on a VPS and encrypt it, then download & decrypt it, when you're back at your new country. Would that be a viable option?

I understand that you're more concerned about your equipment, but this could at least get you going until you get your stuff back; I mean in the worst case scenario.

X4··on Backpacker stripped of tech gear at Auckland Airport
I'm not sure what part of the media is omitted in the states to get that picture of Germany, but our counselor was pro NSA all the time and fully supporting their actions and against Snowden until she got "monitored" herself [1]. Then she started voicing her concerns. But only as late political act of gaining sympathy. However the public received her message broadly as selfish [2].

Every month, but we're getting close to every other week. That's not entirely because of September 11th, but because politics thinks that they can serve Government and Corporate requirements better when they rip our data, privacy and rights.
X4··on Backpacker stripped of tech gear at Auckland Airport
But encrypt it as strong as possible, with password + private-key.
X4··on Backpacker stripped of tech gear at Auckland Airport
Can you ask your contractor to add a special label to it? I don't mean like: "Government Data - Fragile". But maybe they can manage that for you. A friend of mine could ship stuff with a military airplane, because his dad worked for the us army.
X4··on Backpacker stripped of tech gear at Auckland Airport
Add Germany. Our Government is pro NSA and supports them as good as they can. They are dishonest self-servicing hypocrites.

I think the SenseBoard Keyboard is the best amongst these.

X4··on Steam Machines and Steam Controller shipping to beta participants December 13th
Ew.. Friday 13th... wait til it passes.

I don't believe this crap, but coincidently my own PC burnt with fire (literally), right after saying that and turning it on (a few years ago). Yeah, bad coincidence. However, I got part of the money back, because I sued the A/C Adapter company, whose part caused the fire. But I tell you, they were such big assholes, who looked up for the cheapest comparable parts on ebay for my hardware as a "base" price. Interestingly I had a $1200 worth collectors edition graphics card and they paid just $100 bucks for it, because the next cheapest and older model of the card on ebay was that much.

It simultaneously explains why Quantum fluctuations [1] as described by Werner Heisenberg's famous "Uncertainty Principle" occur.

tbh. that doesn't satisfy me, because infinity isn't something that we cannot understand. Actually infinity is much easier to understand than the big bang theory. When there is one thing that nature has thought us from day 1 to now, it is that everything in nature is highly efficient. I feel the need to repeat that "Nature is highly efficient, in every aspect!" So imagining that a maximum entropy universe will result in the quasi violation of the first law of thermodynamics is ridicule. See: [1] Energy will not cease to exist, yes, but I also think that the transformations of excited energy states won't stop.

As an example: "Where does the fire go, after you blow it out? The question is irritating, because fire is a side-effect of quantum interactions, while the wind that blew it off, absorbs and vaporizes this energy into measurable quanta and is comparable to what black holes do.

The rate at which vapors of flames excess from this reaction, is dependant of composition of the matter and it's catalyzation rate. The flame contains many atoms with electrons in highly excited states and keeps decaying into lower energy levels, causing the excess energy to swing in the frequencies/wavelengths or just colors/spectra of the burning material. You can learn more about that in [2].

Why this seemingly unrelated example of "fire and flames" is simply explained as an „autocatalytic set“ [3].

Adding that matter is both particle AND wave dependant on the observation is very simple to understand, when you know that we live in a two dimensional space and that energy outside of our space exists as a wave function.

So, do you say that physical laws in this space, may not hold in another space? That there is one or more variables, which control at which set-point our physical laws (the instruction tape) are begining and ending?
X4··on Simulations back up theory that Universe is a hologram
Thinking about the universe as a massive black hole, whereas black holes are a concept that is still not entirely known makes thinking about this subject highly speculative. This list only adds salt to that wound: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_unsolved_problems_in_ph...

But to me Black Holes are spinning L-Systems which distribute information in the universe instantly by quantum teleportation. This is much simpler than other existing theories which leave open question like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_hole#Open_questions

Take this information with caution, but these paper supports such possibility:

X4··on SAP open sources UI development toolkit "SAPUI5"
I hope I don't ask for too much, but would you be so kind and please give all us the chance to understand what you mean? I have not the references that back this up, could you add these?

(I am not biased. But I know two people working at SAP (at ^high positions), who I "think" are nice people.)

X4··on Simulations back up theory that Universe is a hologram
No, that is not what's believed in general, but gains in attractivity as a possible solution. That's because, it's simpler. I have read about it on various blogs and have also seen an inspiring TED talk about it, before it got removed.

Here's a similar video: The Origin of the Universe and the Arrow of Time by Sean Carroll: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_QMnG232Js

X4··on SAP open sources UI development toolkit "SAPUI5"
Usually I wouldn't agree with this kind of comments, but this is the exception. We shouldn't forget that there is a multi-million dollar company behind this and it's clearly not just open-sourced for beneficiary reasons. Whatever the intent is, the result "look" meager. Maybe a focus on the novelty of their framework instead of the richness in UI-Controls could remedy that effect. It's either that, or hate, or both that people try to accumulate here.
X4··on Simulations back up theory that Universe is a hologram
Yes, but this theory is simpler compared to the 10+ dimensions of string theory and m-theory.
X4··on Simulations back up theory that Universe is a hologram
Is physics a turing machine too? It bends, moves, burns, freezes etc. things according to it's instruction tape (laws)?
X4··on Simulations back up theory that Universe is a hologram
wow, this thread gets more and more interesting. I think the discovery of the holographic universe just broke all norms and worldviews of physics for the most of us.
X4··on Simulations back up theory that Universe is a hologram
If I get this right, then the irony here is, that everybody is correct and wrong at the same time. Just draw some dots, circles etc. on paper and it could be that one day that non-local representation of the holographic universe holds true.
X4··on Simulations back up theory that Universe is a hologram
Hmm.. does that mean that E=mc² is only correct for our dimension? Because, if you say that matter is a side-effect and not something like "higgs particle", then this doesn't hold up anymore. I mean not everything we don't know must exist as a particle.

I mean I believed the holographic universe theory a long time ago already, but taking it really serious, like considering it's implications to all existing findings and formulas is ripping apart my whole worldview (into a flat shape, with a lot of meta-data).

X4··on Simulations back up theory that Universe is a hologram
It means in essence, that we live in the two-dimensional space, which contains just enough information (thanks to interference patterns), to be projectable to the 3rd dimension. In holographic duality, this is a way to derive a more complex dimension from the next lowest dimension. It is thought that the four-dimensional space, which you may have just been thinking about, exists due to distant entangled quarks and may be the thing we call space-time. The holy grail every physicist is searching for is "gravity". Nobody on earth knows for sure what gravity exactly is. But it is thought to exist in the fifth-dimension "bends & shapes the our space-time.

Don't confuse this with the simulated universe theory, as I initially did. That's a whole nother story.

Time is believed to not exist as a separate dimension, but as a byproduct of gravity.
