oh yeah kdot, please tell us about it. I was also going to buy my first smartphone and thought it should be a nexus, because google updates them more often and I could more easily find hacked firmware.

Same here, I declined and got "virtually killed", no more playlist etc. Another short story. helped someone unknown become really famous. Got a DMCA takedown notice on all my videos, that's the "thank you". The best part is that the file I uploaded had no license, nothing. As said that artist was completely unknown. I thought about fighting back, then just said.. f* off.. I'll wipe and shut this account down. Not worth it.. She had barely 100visitors or less in total for years, had to delete her vids with some hundred million visits..

Thanks a lot for sharing this, highly appreciated!

(Personally I would put it into a script, because I usually don't remember things like that.)

Hmm, do you think this could be solved more elegantly on using a VM Containing a Cumulus Networks OS with a programmable Virtualized Network Stack?

X4··on Brainwave-Controlled Zen Garden
Why do you imply that I don't understand it? I've done these experiments myself as a child and know enough about the resonance frequency and the physics behind it. I just suggested that my initial idea can be improved and how, which doesn't use a metal plate, but a sound passing meta-material, which would result in more ordered shapes being formed, because the fullerenes include elements with different resonance frequencies and would probably self-organize into a structure. It would probably be boring, because it would self-organize like sediments of different density in water.

Other social networks solve that "problem", by just filling the old posts with "deleted content" and replace the username with "Deleted user".
X4··on Brainwave-Controlled Zen Garden
Thank you, I appreciate your feedback. It was an unfinished idea and just a hint at the potential behind the creator's own idea. I think the problem you mentioned can be solved by putting the sand into a transparent hood ontop of a very thin plate made which all is made out of this meta-material: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmEE-2aJkeo

That meta-material allows sound to pass through, which is perfect to reduce a loss of sensitivity in the visualization. Also you could use something other than sand, that reacts much more intense to any kind of resonance frequency. My idea would be to create lots of fullerenes, each containing elements with different resonance frequencies, mix them up and put them into a closed cage made out of that meta-material. Should be amazing to watch the material form shapes out of your brain waves.

(stumbled over this article, while researching for the material http://www.technologyreview.com/view/421285/mass-can-be-crea... maybe of interest)

X4··on Brainwave-Controlled Zen Garden
I wish you made something much simpler like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4ehaGeo6vs

All that is needed is just a plate of metal with a frame to stop the sand from spilling over and a sound wave generator that generates sounds based on your EEG.

The big bonus is that you can HEAR your own brain this way and by adding your own heartbeat as background music, you will instantly have an much better feeling and maybe even have an out of body experience. (It's shown in studies that the own heartbeat can help induce that)

X4··on Introducing Google Helpouts
Personally I really love this idea, but isn't anyone else seriously concerned that Google is taking over the whole `World's Information Economy`?

I think BuyOuts should be regulated, this could help the whole industry and econmy. Google should probably be fined with multi billion penalties for using their monopoly power.

     • ISP's with Google Fiber
     • PayPal and Banking Industry → Google Wallet + Google Checkout
     • Automobile Industry → Google Car
     • TelCo's → Android+Nexus (a google plan soon?)
     • Small Businesses in "successfull niche sectors" → BuyOuts
     • RIAA, Music and Video Industry → Google Play
     • Energy Industry → "Energy startup" BuyOuts
     • Spy Agencies → =sumOf(Google Products)
     • …And even more that I've not listed, or that is to come…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Google_products

-- IMHO: (Services stealing the market of businesses, who lost their job or company should be paid their loss. Services not focusing on their main product should be forced to get closed, or get opened up to the public. I know this is very harsh and I don't think that all of this is necessary or should really be done, but someone has to stop Google from acting so dominantly and strategically. They're aiming for world leadership, nothing less and are killing every enemy sector, one by one. This is not a paranoid act of me to boycott Google. I use their services every day. But I don't want them to kill every other sector, just because they're not innovating as fast as Google can (by forcing innovators to a BuyOut with millon/billion dollor offers).)

X4··on Features Firefox should implement to weaken Facebook's stranglehold of the web
I have studied XMPP and the whole protocol stack, compared to everything else I could find out there (in a paper I'm working on). However, the conclusion is that XMPP is not worth the an investment although it looks really fascinating at first and second thought. It's pretty much doable with simpler web technology, webstandards also help to keep out the madness that XMPP calls standards..

The biggest selling points of XMPP are that everbody already has XMPP. The counter argument that weakens this position is that everybody already has email, an IP and a phone number too.

X4··on Let's have coffee.

X4··on I Quit Hacker News (2010)
Glad to hear someone else think the same. I believe that it won't change in here though. Someone said: "If you don't like it, fork it" and this is probably true in this case. Maybe even a business opportunity.

However, I somehow lost the hope that bringing this topic would do any change. I even emailed pg, asking to delete my account including all my posts, but got no response ever. idk..

X4··on I Quit Hacker News (2010)
@Qom How do you quit?

EDIT: ok, he just changed the password to something random.. :/ Dumb question, asking someone who left for how he left...oh man.. Sometimes I don't know where my mind is

@pg Please add a "disable account and delete my posts" button. Almost every site has that feature. It's disrespectful to assume somebody should not be ever able to leave. There is no way to disable your account, or delete all your posts. (I agree that submissions don't need to be deletable btw.)

X4··on I Quit Hacker News (2010)
I have the same issue, but I think PG swears that up/down voting is the thing, just because reddit does it too. Thank you for the link!

X4··on Smart Air
I think that people in Beijing and other Asian or American countries should stand up more often and force their governments to install filters on each fabric's smoke pipe and charge those who don't comply with a big fine. You can then open a petition that votes for using the money generated from that fine to for deploying fuel-less car alternatives… Come on, tell me you're helpless and dependent on your government and that your voice is not worth anything, that you can't change your country.. If you agree sir, I'm sorry. Sorry that you're not standing up for your rights. But then dear citizen, have the courage and inhale the smog in all it's glory and purity.

The DIY Filter idea is great to have a transitional solution and I applaud the startup for this idea. But a government, a country, a company, or a stakeholder, none of them can make profit and money, when there are no trees to cut, no clean air to breathe, no healthy citizen to employ, no educated class to teach, no unpolluted earth for the seed and no will for change. Then you've created the perfect environment for a colony of sheep that follows a butcher who sells himself as a shepard.

X4··on It’s time for Silicon Valley to ask: Is it worth it?
Don't take the List as absolute data, it's only showing publicly known billionaires. There are MANY secret billionaires. Germany might have +120 secret billionaires according to this article: http://translate.google.de/translate?hl=de&sl=de&tl=en&u=htt...

X4··on It’s time for Silicon Valley to ask: Is it worth it?
I would agree, but the wealth gap exists here too and it's growing bigger. There are only a handful people who have earn a big percentage of what's earned in total in the country. Sorry, but had to make this clear. I am from Europe.

     Countries with most Billionaires:
     1) USA – 409
     2) China – 317
     3) Russia – 88
     4) Germany – 61
     5) England – 56
     6) India – 53
     7) Switzerland – 41
     8) Brazil – 33
     9) Taiwan – 32
     10) France – 31

X4··on It’s time for Silicon Valley to ask: Is it worth it?
Orly, seriously? Find me the study that proves that for a group that is larger than a few million! Please just prove this point. It is sooo naive to just assume, "hey I saw 5 chick sand a hen, the hen ruled them, I think hundreds of millions of americans must be ruled by one hen too". Clever, clever... I am writing a scientific paper and just believe me (as you seem to believe easily, without proof) that Hierarchy is natural in small groups only, remember small groups. Absolutely NOT scalable!

I am sorry for my tone, sir. I didn't want to educate you or spray my opinion in your face. But please understand me, it drives me mad when people still believe that it's natural that the World, the Country, or the Cities must be ruled by one leader. To me it's as if somebody is truly believing that the earth is flat and want's to convince everybody else about that.

X4··on Skype does a clever trick when bandwidth is scarce
Good to know, I'm not alone with that experience then. All of my clients already have XMPP, but there is no good CrossPlatform Client, that JustWorks™. Which is sad. But maybe something new will replace this, for example WebRTC is on the way.

Fully agree with you on that. Perfectionism or shooting the bird with one bullet only is not what made Facebook a billion dollar company.
