WhereIsTheTruth··on Two billion email addresses were exposed
If that makes you sleep better at night, you are free to believe none of that is true and just move on..
WhereIsTheTruth··on Two billion email addresses were exposed
This website is very useful, you can target any individuals and find all their secrets (websites they browse, their data and passwords)

More seriously, they should notify the owner of the email address privately rather than displaying it publicly, this can be easily weaponized

But who cares right, they are monetizing the service..

Nobody cares about native UI, not even Apple, the strength of a UI toolkit is to empower creative design while retaining consistency and intuitiveness across devices

Why are we still centralizing open source on Microsoft's GitHub? Haven't we learned the risks of giving one corporation, especially one with a such a shady history, exclusive control over the world's open source activity?
WhereIsTheTruth··on Argentine peso weakens to fresh low despite US interventions
I'd guess it's because of its natural resources and "cheap" labor which is only getting cheaper, whether this was done intentionally or not, it seems to go hand in hand with CHIPS Act

WhereIsTheTruth··on GoFundMe CEO: economy is so bad his customers crowdfund to pay for groceries
Pledging blind allegiance to a single system is stupid

A smarter approach is to cherry pick the best elements from every model and redesign the parts that don't serve us

Not everything should be for profit, if you don't value society and collective welfare, it's meaningless:

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/article/2024/aug/2...

You'll be forced to rethink that model anyway once post-scarcity hits

Abundance breaks capitalism, profit cannot thrive when there's plenty for everyone

Capitalism is a dead end, don't get too attached to it, it served us well, time to move on

WhereIsTheTruth··on Retiring Windows 10 and Microsoft's move towards a surveillance state
Microsoft is an oligopoly that monetizes mediocrity:

-unable to execute a clean chip-architecture transition (while Apple shipped three clean ones)

-unable to modernize its operating system consistently (5 layers of different UI/UX and 30 years old DLLs spread all over the place)

-unable to harden its own software

-unable to design its own hardware

-unable to keep users's data secure

I could continue, but the pattern is clear

I will never store personal or government issued documents on a Windows device and I will never use any form of digital ID to login on infrastructure that depends on Azure AD

TPM, Secure Boot, Windows Update stories are the evidence that the more you entrust Microsoft, the worse it gets

WhereIsTheTruth··on The App Store was always authoritarian
I used "Apple land" deliberately, a single unelected gatekeeper stealing 30% straight off the top line feels more authoritarian than China's 25% on profit

If Apple were a country, it wouldn't just be authoritarian, it'd be a dictatorship with a 30% flat tax on revenue, no appeals, and the power to erase your business overnight

Hence the parallel, but yeah fair point, I wrote the comment too fast

WhereIsTheTruth··on The App Store was always authoritarian
Corporate tax in China is 25%

Corporate tax in Apple land is 30%

WhereIsTheTruth··on AMD and Sony's PS6 chipset aims to rethink the current graphics pipeline
underwhelming? what do you mean?

every year, Playstation ranks very high when it comes to GOTY nominations

just last year, Playstation had the most nominations for GOTY: https://x.com/thegameawards/status/1858558789320142971

not only that, but PS5 has more 1st party games than Microsoft's Xbox S|X

1053 vs 812 (that got inflated with recent Activision acquisition)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_5_games

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_Series_X_and_Seri...

It's important to check the facts before spreading random FUD

PS5 had the strongest lineup of games this generation, hence why they sold this many consoles

Still today, consumers are attracted to PS5's lineup, and this is corroborated by facts and data https://www.vgchartz.com/

In August for example, the ratio between PS5 and Xbox is 8:1; almost as good as the new Nintendo Switch 2, and the console is almost 5 years old!

You say "underwhelming", people are saying otherwise

We all know the NSA has access to servers hosted in the U.S. How are you protecting the archive from malicious tampering? Are you using any form of immutable storage? Is it post-quantum secure?
WhereIsTheTruth··on Americans increasingly see legal sports betting as a bad thing for society
The entire business model depends on most people losing, and those losses often come from people who can't afford it, the industry is structured to aggressively market, addict, and exploit psychological weaknesses, it's engineered dependence

> Because _other_ people make poor decisions, we need to take that decision away from everyone.

Sports betting is to entertainment what ultra-processed food is to nutrition, engineered to be addictive, marketed as "pleasure" and technically a personal choice, but built on exploiting human psychology

You can enjoy a burger or a bet responsibly, sure, but the problem is the systemic design, it's optimized for overconsumption and dependency, not well being, you end up creating problems whole society have to pay for it, it's systemic harm

WhereIsTheTruth··on Anti-aging breakthrough: Stem cells reverse signs of aging in monkeys
Death holds profound significance, it acts as a mental reset

Accumulating traumas across an eternity would harm society

And I think it's unfair to reserve that for the wealthy, if anything, eugenics should determine who gains access, only the most genetically advantaged should be allowed, in an effort to protect and strengthen humankind

But I don't think our society is ready to have this discussion, hence why, aging and death should not be frowned upon

WhereIsTheTruth··on Stripe to take 30% cut of disputed revenue you recover
flat fee + 30% cut? opt-out? using AI? oof

My experience with Stripe and disputes made me stop using them back then, looks like it's going worse..

Fraud detection is hard, sure, dealing with kids who use parents CCs is impossible to prevent

If you done nothing wrong and you win your disputes, you'll still loose money, this is all backwards

Lots of PayPal FUD around here, but when I had my online business, I effortlessly won most of the dispute cases, and they'd only keep the transaction fee, wich was ~3% only

WhereIsTheTruth··on Blockchain just became an utterly mainstream part of the global financial system
Bitcoin and the whole blockchain technology is weird to me

Launched by an anonymous author, it was almost immediately hailed as "the future of money, free from institutions"

That alone feels odd, Washington constaltly punishes anyone who threatens the USD/petrodollar system, yet over the years, and still today, no serious censorship was ever directed at Bitcoin

Stranger still, US startups rushed to adopt it (Coinbase), China too.. (Binance), yet any attempts from other countries would be met with heavy FUD, often times with arrests and murders, as if it would self control itself, and ownership would be guaranteed to whoever orchestrated it all

To me, it has always looked like a bait-and-switch, the promise of easy profit lures greedy actors whose capital finances blockchain R&D, while constant attacks force the technology to harden, exactly the stress testing you would want if your end goal were a resilient infrastructure for an official CBDC and government issued digital wallet/ID

Today, we are kinda getting the confirmation..

WhereIsTheTruth··on Map of Near and Middle East Oil 1965
The 19th century German coinage "antisemitism" was never a neutral label for "opposition to Judaism", it was a racial science slogan that recast Christian anti-Judaism as a biological war against "Semitic" Orientals

At the time it had no connection with Zionism

Because the word now circulates without that historical packaging, many people take "Jew" to be a racial category and imagine Jews, not Arabs, Assyrians, or other Semitic language communities, to be the only Semitic group, an assumption that reproduces the very Nazi racial taxonomy the term originally served

Its very design, framing Jews alone as the quintessentially "Semitic" target, censors every attempt to talk about the Middle East, because it buries the shared Semitic matrix (Arab, Assyrian, Hebrew, Aramaic, etc.) under a racialized badge that only sticks to one side

Once the vocabulary itself encodes a single victim story, any mention of parallel or overlapping suffering sounds like denial instead of description, and the conversation stalls before facts can even be named

WhereIsTheTruth··on Map of Near and Middle East Oil 1965
First of all they didn't

Here's a reminder of what the word 'Semitic' means:

"Semitic people or Semites is a term for an ethnic, cultural or racial group[2][3][4][5] associated with people of the Middle East and the Horn of Africa, including Akkadians (Assyrians and Babylonians), Arabs, Arameans, Canaanites (Ammonites, Edomites, Israelites, Moabites, Phoenicians, and Philistines) and Habesha peoples"
