All of the C versions post 99 or so probably have worse adoption. New versions of ALGOL, Visual Basic, Cobol. Being infamous isn't failure being unknown is a failure. Raku is a success I never have used Perl but I checked out Raku seems alright.
Its not necessarily about how a language is syntactically or semantically it is about how the users and creators of a language talk about it and want it to be seen.
Its interesting to me to reclassify language schisms slash internal wars in this context. The C programmers(masochists) vs the C++99 programmers(Obsessives) vs C++11 programmers(Obssessives who want to move to Hysterical). The Raku vs Perl split as a move toward sociopathic behavior. The resistance in go to generics as an aversion of the masochistic to the hysterical. Its super fun.
I guess I watched the back to basics c++ series on move semantics and its not really all that bad. I did struggle with it beforehand though. I've never worked in C++ tbh. I does take the 2 hours but you have it when you're done. https://youtu.be/St0MNEU5b0o
Its weird people don't compare Go to Kotlin. It has channels and coroutines. I think Kotlin does better with contexts and I think flows are a really cool addition. There does seem to be a lot there but honestly, it reminds me a lot of Go in its pick up and play nature
So in this scenario are we essentially reimplementing Apache Kafka? Producers who create events that are then read by consumers and persisted on a database layer. What am I missing?
It is notable that this code forces a conversion to std::function which IIRC can actually require more space than the lambda it's attempting to store. For lambdas just use auto they don't have a type don't worry about their type.
Sometimes I would almost advocate a little confusion because who is to say you've correctly identified the priority. Who's to say the bug is correctly triaged?
I don't know why you're being downvoted. The natural disaster is something that happened. That's the exact reason aid was delayed to New York and New Jersey post Hurricane Sandy. There really is no equivalency. Democrats when they care about deficits in or out of power the walk the walk. Mostly caring about deficits doesn't fit their model. They're Keynesians whatever. But Republicans just straight up never care when they are in power. They run the deficit up like no one is ever going to have to pay the bill. Then they lose the election and discover a conscience. Its been thirty years of this at this point. It is what it is.
More a robot that build robots. I mean like you are running a service and something automagically builds the automation for running that service given a few inputs.
One of things that's obvious about the modern social network is that Whatsapp is the model more than facebook . I would even argue with you more so than even Instagram. Whatsapp is the myspace of those tools and Signal and Telegram seem to have different goals. Social networks are going to be smaller and more tightly connected. So I'm completely convinced of that direction. I'm just unsure why if I'm someone with a mailing list 400k people why I'm talking to them and not Patreon? Why am I giving you 40% of my revenue? If I was working a Patreon or Twitter in product I would be really interested because (semi-)federated micro networks with interesting content are their business.
Does it follow from this that while you could train a large machine learning program to do a task then separating it from a monolith into separable parts would be highly unlikely to be successful? For example, you could train an algorithm that does object identification and then train an algorithm that does object boundary identification considering only the red value in a given photo from the original large program. However if you start with the components of an object identifier you might not be able to reach SOA or at least those two methods would look very different.
I can see where you're coming from and I'm sure it must feel that way but I'm not sure its actually true. Most of what's happened is that C++11 can be summed up into a few priorities.
We want to make type deduction simple.
We want to make writing templates easy.
We want to make doing things at compile time easy.
We want you to be able to write local closures easily.
You can contextualize the vast majority of the language changes from c++11 on this way. I just don't think having the same priorities for 10 years is making constant drastic change.
So I was thinking about something similar to this in the sense of a language where syntax was extendable but with making different choices. I was interested in forming some sort of base lingua franca with additional composable dialects that are available per translation unit. Imagine if you could take go know for sure you don't have any concurrency in a section or the memory management section is missing so no worries about memory management. Increasing expressiveness but also reducing cognitive load to the calling code and its interfaces and nowhere else. Want to run very complicated domain specific code and not have the guy who designs the webserver know anymore than what is nessecary to rout it great. Want to add hot code,io, complexity annotations in the code, Great(Obviously this isn't free you need good tooling and to do sampled profiling and for complexity you need to make choices about what code is complex, etc.But if we're dreaming why not dream big.). Metrics,Explicit resource bounds etc. In this context for the things most people would want i.e. concurrency you would have a readily available dialect that fits 80% of use cases which would be infrequently changed. I don't know if that makes much sense in what you have in mind but I did find what you're doing interesting.
If you remember the issue where SpaceX refused to move for the ESA sattelite. I think this a situation where space and air traffic control have to become more automated. This is like the beginning of an iteration in construction like the ones that happen in suspension bridges. The hope is that the Tacoma narrows scenario doesn't end up too costly. One of the fun things is that with this many sattelites you have a pretty good distributed orbital debris tracker.
I feel like this and the motivation for golang are vaguely similar. Hear me out. The intention of golang in its language is to make complex things hard to do and make it easy to understand the language in any piece of code because there isn't much syntax. But sometimes you want to code more expressively and having some nice syntax would be nice. Its not a big deal if its local and limited to what this exact problem is. That's tough to get from a general purpose language.
Feeling not quite good enough -> working at night -> not making progress -> Depression. Got me fired from a FAANG and sent me into a year long depression and recovery. As to whether I deserved to be there who knows. I sure as shit didn't do myself any favors.
Its not illegal to have a private club with membership rules that exclude women. There are still several golf clubs that do so. In fact in the US its not even illegal to openly discriminate in hiring as long as the business has less 14 employees. In California that number goes down to 5 employees and local laws may be stricter still.
Instead of thinking of them in nice ways think of the by their pejoratives. Architecture Astronauts, Premature Optimizers and script kiddies. You personally are more of a premature optimizer than an Astronaut. Makes sense that there would be lots of mathematicians and physicists in the optimizers. I'm an Astronaut mostly myself.
I think this is a difference of degree but not kind. Duke still has tenured faculty. He is clearly not afforded the rights of tenured faculty. For this matter functionally he's an adjunct because that's how they ruled on him.
I think the way to read the response of the Faculty Comittee is this. He was an adjunct he hasn't earned the protection of academic freedom. He gets to keep his job if he fulfills what we feel like is necessary to be a member of our community. We feel like he's a negative experience for students and we don't think his addition is worthwhile. I'm all for not indulging the carebears but the message "You were allowed to stick around after you failed because we thought we could use you and felt sorry for you. But we don't like you and some of our students don't like you. Go find another job." That is not a carebear handling of things if he wanted to have academic freedom he had a right to get tenure. He's an adjunct he needs to act like it. This is very much like Augusta where the don't have formal rules some things are simply frowned upon and its your responsibility to understand the culture of the club. It was his responsibility to understand the culture of the faculty in his tenuous position. That is a very important lesson for him and for students by his example.
Ehh they aren't super interesting but there are good businesses in there. Out of the ones I saw from both days AON3D, InnaMed Vinsight, Cowlar, MarketFox, Trade, BulkMRO, Hogaru and SuprDaily all seem to have good market niches and achievable goals.
