We are sacrificing our own health for what? Money?
No one is saying we shouldn't have jobs don't be dense. Maybe we shouldn't value money over literally everything else.
If I wrote the perfect chat app tomorrow, I'm talking universally loved by anyone who uses it. I'm not guaranteed to succeed. If someones whole family is on iMessage and they are happy they aren't going to be able to get them to switch. So they couldn't use my app if they wanted too.
Thus they stay with the "inferior" product. Average people aren't interested in the latest greatest. They just want it to work and as long as it does, they don't care about shortcomings that don't affect them. IE app size, speed(as long as its good enough)
You're kidding yourself if you think the average person looks at the size of an app.
I'm sorry what? This isn't the 1800's anymore, this way of thinking just astounds me. How can you anyone look at our modern times and say as long as your a half days horse ride away from a government office you got everything you need. You're ignoring that fact most people don't even have horses. Cars have existed for over 100 years now. You could at-least factor that into your baseline.
If we never move the baseline up then we lose the will to advance. We strip the upward mobility of our poorer citizens.
ease of access is something that I think is over-valued when it comes to government
The harder it is for your average citizen to due something the less likely they are to do it. It discriminates against the people who need help the most and concentrates power into fewer and fewer hands.
Take starting a Business for example, the harder it is the less people will do it. This is bad for our economy and society as a whole. Less small businesses means less jobs, less ways for people to lift themselves out of poverty. The more difficult Government is to interface with the more time someone has to devote to dealing with it. It means less time to focus on education or a small business, or their family, or health. It means they are more likely to be stuck where they are.
Ease of Access to Government resources can be directly correlated to some peoples quality of life. Think of Food stamps or welfare to the people who need it.
I think it's hard to make the case that someone may be excluded just because they don't have internet
No, its pretty easy, most libraries have been closed due to Covid. Many people might not have reliable access to the internet atm. Which in the supposed best country on Earth is scary.
That's why Hollywood unionized the way it did. A specific studio couldn't unionize because they would just get dissolved and reformed under a new LLC.
No actor or famous game designer is capable of creating a AAA movie/game by themselves. They need a lot of people to work on it.
The only difference is Hollywood the entire pool of workers unionized they have no choice but to hire a union worker.
Game designers/programmers need to follow the same formula. The two industries have exactly the same problem, Hollywood workers have been around long enough to figure out the solution.
For 99% of employees out their quitting isn't the threat you make it seem to be. As easy you make it sound to get a new job, its that easy for them to replace you. Then that new employee gets to deal with the same shit you left over. It never gets fixed.
Leaving and going somewhere new doesn't solve anything. for most people job hunting is just looking at piles of shit and finding which one stinks less.
Insurance at my current job is not great. I can't go to my boss and say I want better health insurance he would laugh me out of his office, but even if he could, why would he not just give me the better insurance from the start? If a Union went to management and said we demand better health care that carries weight. That would get something done.
