VoidWhisperer··on I was recently diagnosed with anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis
> Thank you to my friends, family and doctors as well. Their support during this time was unwavering and I’m not sure what would have happened without them. “Nothing good” is what a nurse said when I posed that question to her.

I've always been told (and this has been true over the 4 or 5 times I've been hospitalized in my life) that having someone there for you, to support you and also to serve as your 'patient advocate' (so helping making sure all of the questions are asked of the doctors and stuff like that) has a definite positive effect on medical outcomes. In my cases, it was my family filling this role.

VoidWhisperer··on Cloudflare Turnstile requiring fingerprintable WebGL
I think the idea is that they have the functionality that cloudflare is using to generate the fingerprint (like webGL in this case) disabled in their non-cloudflare profile and only use the cloudflare profile to do things they have to that are behind cloudflare
VoidWhisperer··on Google employee charged with $1M Polymarket insider trading bet on search term
I think the point the grandparent comment is trying to make is that at a staff level, and having been at google for 12 years, he was likely being paid pretty well, and that he could've made that same money longer term just by continuing to work at google
VoidWhisperer··on Shira: Anti Phishing Training Platform
So is the idea for Shira is that it is quizzes and other tools to teach people how not to be phished? Whereas I know some enterprise anti-phishing tooling I've seen lets IT/Security send a 'phishing email', where you are told good job if you report it and it is noted down on your employee record if you do fall for it
VoidWhisperer··on Waymo pauses Atlanta service as its robotaxis keep driving into floods
> No one should be driving in a hurricane.

I agree, but there are a number of people here in Florida who will do it or die trying (emphasis on the die trying)

VoidWhisperer··on Waymo pauses Atlanta service as its robotaxis keep driving into floods
While this is going to be an overly optimistic scenario: Imagine how smooth a hurricane evacuation would go if _everyone_ used a self-driving car to do the evacuation - atleast there might be less gridlock than there is during any usual hurricane evacuations. And assuming the self driving cars don't do something stupid that causes every car behind it to essentially lock up and stop moving

That said, I know a scenario like that would never happen, probably for the best.

VoidWhisperer··on After Town Bans Flock, Councilmember Crashes Out, Proposes Internet, Phone Ban
Since these town council members are elected, I hope this guy has no aspirations of getting elected again, because he basically just showed everyone in his town that he can't be reasonable - that it is either none (no electronics at all) or all (privacy invading stuff like Flock)
VoidWhisperer··on I built a live map for tracking military aircraft activity worldwide
You could look into services that have the necessary data to flag flights as military or not, like adsb-exchange or opensky-network (although i think the former is too expensive and the latter i think requires that you get specific permission from them to use their API in this sort of manner)
VoidWhisperer··on I built a live map for tracking military aircraft activity worldwide
A couple of things:

1. I feel like this would be more useful to many people if the map used the common english names for the countries and etc - or atleast the ability to switch to it. Maybe I'm wrong here.

2. Realistically there is a significant amount of military aircraft missing from this, as it would probably not be a great idea for bombers and fighters to broadcast their position on ADSB

VoidWhisperer··on UFerris a Versatile Learner Board for Rust Embedded Beginners
Must've been fairly popular. Every bundle including the board is already out of stock
VoidWhisperer··on Mullvad exit IPs are surprisingly identifying
> Surprisingly, the exit IP you are given is not randomized each time you connect to the server, but deterministically picked based on your WireGuard key, which rotates every 1 to 30 days (unless you use a third-party client, in which case it never rotates).

I'm a little confused on this... what is stopping third parties from doing key rotations like the main app clients if it is detailed in the repo how to do it?

VoidWhisperer··on Malware crew TeamPCP open-sources its Shai-Hulud worm on GitHub
Link in OP goes to a 404, this one should work: https://www.theregister.com/security/2026/05/13/malware-crew...
VoidWhisperer··on Scrcpy v4.0
I work doing mobile app development and scrcpy along with iphone mirroring for iphone have made it much easier to do typing which is super helpful when testing flows that involve filling out forms.

Only gripe with scrcpy (and an extremely minor one at that) is that tab doesnt automatically advance input fields in the app, while it does in iphone mirroring

VoidWhisperer··on PS3 Emulator Devs Politely Ask That People Stop Flooding It with AI PRs
At some point it used to be in order to have things that you can show got merged into popular public projects in job interviews, but I'm not sure that is the case anymore since some of these people have no intention (as far as i can tell) of finding a SE job
VoidWhisperer··on Show HN: Got tired of paying $100/mo for SEO tools, so I built an alternative
Just so you are aware, the 'tool guides' and 'api guides' link in your footer lead to 404s
VoidWhisperer··on GameStop makes $55.5B takeover offer for eBay
From a quick glance, the headline text is weirdly stretched on mobile, unless that is how it is supposed to be with that font
VoidWhisperer··on SFO Gate Explorer
Neat idea. I do wonder how they managed to convince the TSA to allow this.
VoidWhisperer··on AI run store in SF can't stop ordering candies and paying women less.
Minor correction from the article title: It can't stop ordering candles, not candies.

Although candies would've been more amusing

VoidWhisperer··on The unlikely story of Teardown Multiplayer
It seems like Coffee Stain generally handles the games they publish pretty well. They also have Valheim and Deep Rock Galactic published under them, both of which have been reasonably successful and long running games
VoidWhisperer··on Ask HN: How is AI-assisted coding going for you professionally?
It has definitely made me more productive. That said, that productivity isn't coming from using it to write business logic (I prefer to have an in-depth understanding of the logical parts of the codebases that I'm working on. I've also seen cases in my work codebases where code was obviously AI generated before and ends up with gaping security or compliance issues that no one seemed to see at the time).

The productivity comes from three main areas for me:

- Having the AI coding assistance write unit tests for my changes. This used to be by far my least favorite part of my job of writing software, mostly because instead of solving problems, it was the monotonous process of gathering mock data to generate specific pathways, trying to make sure I'm covering all the cases, and then debugging the tests. AI coding assistance allows me to just have to review the tests to make sure that they cover all the cases I can think of and that there aren't any overtly wrong assumptions

- Research. It has been extraordinarily helpful in giving me insight into how to design some larger systems when I have extremely specific requirements but don't necessarily have the complete experience to architect them myself - I know enough to understand if the system is going to correctly accomplish the requirements, but not to have necessarily come up with architecture as a whole

- Quick test scripts. It has been extremely useful for generating quick SQL data for testing things, along with quick one-off scripts to test things like external provider APIs

VoidWhisperer··on AI agent opens a PR write a blogpost to shames the maintainer who closes it
It has sunk in so far that it is now at the bottom of the ocean
VoidWhisperer··on Discord Alternatives, Ranked
In the case of voice chat in servers used for gaming, my experience has been that the persistent channels for voice are actually kind of important, it removes any friction from dropping in and out of voice chat, and allows others to easily see 'hey, there is someone in this voice channel, maybe i should join'
VoidWhisperer··on Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month
Based on some (admittedly very surface level) research, one spot where Zulip will still struggle to replace Discord is Voice/Video chats and Screensharing - the little I could find about voice chatting in zulip is that it has to be configured to use an external service (jitsi, zoom, etc)
VoidWhisperer··on I put a real-time 3D shader on the Game Boy Color
You're absolutely right! (sorry, I couldn't resist)
VoidWhisperer··on Tell HN: I'm a PM at a big system of record SaaS. We're cooked
I'm not sure if SAP is considered a SoR, but businesses that use it are often do entrenched eventually that migrating out would be a monumental effort
VoidWhisperer··on A web server on a single floppy disk
Seems to be timing out for me (not necessarily surprising, given that it is a floppy disk and HN has a history of hugging sites to death)

Archive link incase people want to see the page but can't load it: https://web.archive.org/web/20260129015513/http://floppy.ddn...

VoidWhisperer··on Postmortem: Our first VLEO satellite mission (with imagery and flight data)
I think the main purpose, atleast in this case, is to enable very high resolution satellite imagery (whether or not that being a good thing in and of itself is another matter).
VoidWhisperer··on Show HN: GibRAM an in-memory ephemeral GraphRAG runtime for retrieval
Out of curiosity, did you settle on that name before or after the RAM availability/price issues?
VoidWhisperer··on Ask HN: Those who quit tech, moved back home, what do you do?
Atleast you are less likely to get shot at in infosec, that probably helps with the stress
VoidWhisperer··on Show HN: An iOS budget app I've been maintaining since 2011
I think (granted, this is from a quick bit of research so I could be wildly wrong) - the message you see in your credit card app with a transaction is usually mainly the merchant name and location which is part of ISO 8583, so it may be a bit hard to extend it to include an arbitrary message in a way that works without merchants having to replace card reader/POS systems en-masse.
