Yeah, sadly we use Google which does not.
TrueGeek··on My journey for dual displays with my M1 Pro Mac (2021)
I love the single ultra wide over two monitors. The only problem I have is when presenting. I need to show several apps at once but if I share my entire screen it obviously looks horrible for everyone else. The solution is to open my MacBook and share from there. Not a huge deal, but a bit annoying.
TrueGeek··on Things you notice when you quit the news (2016)
I've uninstalled Facebook and stopped reading / watching the news. I read HN and a few local subreddits via RSS. I do feel much better mentally.

I would, however, like a way to be informed of breaking news. I tried a few apps but their idea of "breaking" news often involved celebrity gossip. I really only want to know if its MAJOR: war breaks out, aliens land and make contact, fusion is finally perfected and we're all no longer required to labor 40 hours a week.

My current solution is basically: if something major happens my wife tells me about it.

TrueGeek··on How I Built LoginWithHN
I'm doing the same, but using Auth0 for the login-by-email. I don't think it'll really tie me to anything since it would be trivial to change to another service.

What did you use to implement yours?

TrueGeek··on Mark Cuban's pharmacy started with a cold email
Sadly, no, it is a generic.

These companies are not the same and are not offering drugs at cost. I searched for a drug that I’m paying a ton for (even with insurance). Honeybee doesn’t have it, Blink quoted me $1,200. With insurance it’s $600, GoodRx let’s me get it for $200.
TrueGeek··on Don't allow animated favicons (2001)
omg, thank you. I've always wondered why my work email count was wonky.

TrueGeek··on Tell HN: A Conversation Needs to Be Had over Subscription Software
Many end users do not understand the difference between "standalone piece of software" and something that has an ongoing cost for the developer.

TrueGeek··on ‘I felt powerless – so I started filming’: CyclingMikey vs. dangerous drivers
Saying that cycling is dangerous because you are putting your life in the hands of car drivers isn't saying cycling is bad, it's saying cars are.

This is a very American problem. I do hate driving on roads here, but when I ride on roads in the EU (even on roads without dedicated cycling infrastructure) it's a completely different experience.

TrueGeek··on What a progressive utopia does to outdoor dining
The article isn't about sidewalks though. It's about re-using parking spaces. The word 'sidewalk' appears only once in the article, and only in reference to the type of thing you'd see in Europe. The "parklets" are build in the street, just at the edge (and off) of the sidewalk so the 100% of the sidewalk is still usable.
TrueGeek··on Here’s How Many People Default on Their Student Loans in the U.S.
I don't know if it's different now, but when I took it the student aid entrance counseling was taught by a representative that worked at one of the banks funding the loans. He started by asking "How many of you are borrowing to maintain a standard of living?" and then went on to explain how it's totally normal, and encouraged, to borrow more than you need. He said it'd make college easier as you wouldn't have to work, you'd have a computer, you could relax by going out to movies when you were done with homework, etc.
TrueGeek··on Tell HN: You can't add “no ads” in your Play Store app's title
The problem (with both app stores) is there are really three types of apps: paid, free, requires subscription. Devs are having to use titles to make it clear which is which since the stores aren't letting them use categories. It's frustrating (for both user and developer) when a user downloads an app expecting it to be free only to find it won't work if you don't pay monthly.
TrueGeek··on I bought those AR cycling glasses that were on HN last month
If it was waterproof and showed data from my Varia I would not have returned them. I don't ride on the roads without radar anymore.
TrueGeek··on I bought those AR cycling glasses that were on HN last month
Are you any where near Atlanta? If so can I borrow this setup when I do my next review?
TrueGeek··on I bought those AR cycling glasses that were on HN last month
I never liked the idea of using a watch as a bike computer. If all you want is to record the data for later use it's fine, but then just use whatever you already own - your phone, Apple Watch, etc. If you need to actually see the data while moving the wrist isn't a safe place to be directing your eyesight.

Good point on the text, thank you - I've changed it. If you've got time could you send / post a screenshot of the images not fitting? My contact details are on my main site in my HN profile.

The images are huge, I'll admit. Normally when I post on that site it's ride reports that are only read by my mother so it's heavily photo based. When writing this review I did think I should make a component for smaller images but, honestly, I wasn't expecting this many people to read it.

As for it being hard to design... yeah. This is just a free Jekyll template that I got and then pushed to GitHub Pages. At work I have the benefit of the UX department telling me what to change, lol

TrueGeek··on I bought those AR cycling glasses that were on HN last month
Hey, thanks for saying so. I've never reviewed a product before so wasn't sure how it'd go. I normally write (on another blog) about software development like the rest of the HN crowd so this was quite different for me.
TrueGeek··on I bought those AR cycling glasses that were on HN last month
This is the analogy I'm going to use from now on when people ask how I liked them.

I think Engo has a chance to win though, at least for a while. They could release v2 next year with improved hardware and a slightly lower price and cyclists would eat it up.

Meanwhile, Apple is going to release their AR glasses but I don't think the initial version will be rugged enough for sports use. And I imagine they'll be MUCH more than $300.

TrueGeek··on I bought those AR cycling glasses that were on HN last month
I agree completely about not looking at distance. But, for me, heart rate is super important. It's actually the reason I've been looking into AR glasses for cycling and swimming. I normally have heart rate, power, and speed showing on my Wahoo - in that order.
