Trias11··on ASK HN: What’s a small thing you’ve purchased which has made your life better?
When we moved to a different city I spent $10 to buy a jar filled with loose screws, nuts, bolts, washers and small assembly elements leftovers from a local small hardware store.

These little things served me so well over the last 25 years!

Trias11··on FCC allows blocking traffic from robocall-friendly provider One Owl
This.

Problem solved.

Trias11··on Ask HN: I get defensive when engineers critique my decisions, help
Agree with everyone and then do what you think is right anyways.
Trias11··on Tell HN: LinkedIn banned me because of my avatar, in the middle of my fundraise
We should use it (or anything else) but not rely on it.

If it's useful while it lasts, why not.

Always have Plan B, C, D, etc...

Internet is polluted with horror stories from clueless users: "omg (youtube|facebook|linkdin|(tele|insta)gram) banned me and my business! Help!"

Trias11··on Experiencing decreased performance with ChatGPT-4
Possibly: openai is making adjustments to make sure "what you pay is what you get and NOT more".

Possibly readying to hike a price for the next level where what you used to get will cost way more.

Trias11··on IRS files $44B claims against bankrupt FTX
I guess IRS has bigger elbows than other creditors to put itself in front of a judgement.

Many others can pretty much pack and go

To all the idiots who lost money with SBF - please stop blaming SBF.

Even if ya'll will be given all your money back - you'd still manage to lose it again in a short time and blame someone else. SBF has nothing to do with it.

Your mindset and you do.

Trias11··on I'm never investing in Google's smart home ecosystem again
I used Nest and my experience was that no matter settings I configure, Google always override something with what "they think" is better for me.

We eventually sold the house, otherwise frustration would continue

Trias11··on Tell HN: Check your spam if you use Gmail
True story: The best job offer in my life I found in gmail spam folder.
Trias11··on San Francisco, crime density, and the feeling of safety
South of SF
Trias11··on San Francisco, crime density, and the feeling of safety
PS: choice of country to move of course greatly depends on everyone's personal circumstances.

It's much easier to prepare the remote landing strip before storm hits the fan and everyone will try to run the same direction.

I strongly suggest everyone to have some viable options in advance.

Trias11··on San Francisco, crime density, and the feeling of safety
Switzerland. Still do but luckily I'm a green card holder, not a US Citizen.

Plan to get rid of my GC later this year.

No more of filing BS papers and buying US taxes soon.

Trias11··on San Francisco, crime density, and the feeling of safety
From CA to Nevada.

From Nevada to Switzerland. We just bought our first property over there on a mountain side. One of the best areas in a south Switzerland.

From there I can swim by boat to Italy to taste ice cream.

I honestly think it's the best country to be in especially in the times of unpredictability and chaos.

Trias11··on San Francisco, crime density, and the feeling of safety
That's why I left CA in 2020. High taxes. Growing crime. Political BS.

That's why I left USA in 2022.

Trias11··on Easily accessing all your stuff with a zero-trust mesh VPN
Gl-Inet routers with embedded support for VPN's + ZeroTier.

You may even install ZeroTier directly in these routers to [re-]configure router from anywhere.

Trias11··on Russia is persecuting dissenters by taking away their children
Any sane person who isn't a brain-washed z-patriot has already left Russia or at least staying quiet.

At this point North Korea is a democracy compared to russia.

Trias11··on Ask HN: Are you preparing for WW3? If so, how? If not, why not?
Move to a BS-free, safe country like Switzerland.
Trias11··on Google’s fully homomorphic encryption compiler – a primer
The whole need to encrypt likely only exist within rudimental newborn civilizations like Earth (on a universe scale) where species are fighting their own for survival and growth.
Trias11··on A startup is deploying armed bodyguards to NYC
Mostly peaceful mercenaries to properly handle mostly peaceful protesters.
Trias11··on Ask HN: How many times equity should I get in exchange for salary?
Is that a publicly traded company?

Are you founder / co-founder?

Are you employee #1-5?

If answer is "NO" on all questions, then by reducing your salary, you're purely losing money.

You won't see a penny for your "equity" even if company is sold for trillion $.

Trias11··on 2023 Global Passport Ranking
Russia is under sanctions for ongoing war crimes.

Try to travel with russian passport in any civilized country.

Trias11··on 2023 Global Passport Ranking
Russian passport in the top 50?

Please.

Trias11··on Update: Stripe is holding over $400k of mine with no explanation [resolved]
Customer support is a liability and every large company will allocate absolutely minimal possible resources to any liability.

This of course can backfire via social media into negative reputation and some repeated bad behaviors can landslide into class action.

But large companies are willing to accept such risk and will continue such pattern.

Trias11··on Ask HN: What assurance do early startup employees have against dilution?
Like others said.

Equity compensation is essentially a legalized SV scam.

If you're an employee #6+ and not an insider - just negotiate a salary figure and/or work conditions.

Even if your shitty startup gets money laundered (I mean acquired) for 12 figures you are getting exactly zero of these figures.

That's a plan.

And startup lawyers smiling you into signing "just a standard" contract are getting paid big figures to laugh you out of the door after exit transaction.

Trias11··on Apple introduces end-to-end encryption for backups
What about Apple scanning photos for "nefarious" content?

Suddenly they're not doing that?

Trias11··on Much US “recycling” goes straight to the landfill
I wonder if truth about recycling is such a politically incorrect subject similar to profiling of a typical criminal in a specific city/state?
Trias11··on [dead]
Ukraine only has western weapons of significance to play with.

The rules of the [western] game is DO NOT attack russia with our weapons.

Which is a fair requirement. "We give you weapons, but you play by the rules, or else"

Trias11··on Montreal is what North America could be
Besides absolutely miserable winters, french-enfrocement for businesses and chronic low-ball salaries for high tech jobs.

However summers are lovely albeit short, old Montreal is cute, and yes, cousine is delicious.

Trias11··on Tell HN: LinkedIn is automatically importing job postings into company profiles
This is pointless.

Platforms will do what they want to do pushing the limits until they got class action or compliance penalty awakening. They'll pay fine then rinse and repeat.

Regardless, use them for what they good at.

DO NOT rely your business models or your income solely on them.

They see you, everyone and everything as a chance to use and abuse to squeeze maximum profits and discard.

Use them alike.

Trias11··on Cheap junk flooding Amazon has brand names like MOFFBUZW
Rock bottom prices, free delivery (with prime) + one click, no risk, no question asked refunds overweight fakes and crap.

Hard to argue with that, honestly.

Obviously if you want to buy genuine Rolex, or quality European made tools, Amazon is not the place.
