Toast_··on How to learn machine learning in the simplest way?
Azure machine learning has a drag and drop interface (which allows custom code) and allows you to use it as a Web service, plus it's free. I'm currently using it and pretty happy with the results.

There's a bunch of 'learn as you go' workbooks that may be of interest to you too.

That makes sense. I was under the impression that you were saying something along the lines "Phoenix breaks erlang," but the complaint that Phoenix is too bulky is pretty common.
Toast_··on Net Neutrality Day of Action: Help Preserve the Open Internet
I'm happy that they allow me to grossly underpay for their service, if I have enough roommates.
Toast_··on Net Neutrality Day of Action: Help Preserve the Open Internet
Unpopular opinion: I've never had a problem with Comcast and I loved the fact that they allowed users (in my experience) in the same residence cash in on promos.

promo ends -> cancel plan -> new roommate signs on.

Toast_··on Ask HN: How realistic are the fears coming from the NN 'day of action' crowd?
I'm not sure if my thought process is even valid, but I remember watching a blackhat presentation on hacking docsis 3 (may have been "hacking docsis for fun and profit"?) and the basic consensus was that docsis 3 security was just swiss cheese. I'm curious how such a system that can barely regulate it's users, could somehow become a totalitarian behemoth overnight. It's like satire being taken seriously.

> The messaging seems to be, in the majority case, unrealistic scare-mongering, and that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Complete reason why I've made the thread. Nearly every reason I've received (via whatever channel) has been a pre-written, appeal to the least common denominator response. The only thing I care about is if what has been suggested is actually possible; and assumably, if so, what we can do to negate it. I really appreciate a real response, thank you.

Thanks for the response.

Would an ISP blocking IP's or services cause any issues to one that isn't? (i.e., peer exchanges/access points)

Toast_··on Learning Elixir: My side-project
How does Phoenix detract from from the elixir/erlang experience? I was under the impression that it was just a web framework? I'm pretty naive on the subject—I've just never seen something like this brought up before.

Pretty crazy that they're pulling that much revenue without even using affiliate links.

Considering it's listed as public record in the first place, I doubt it. I was just directly attacking your claim.
Toast_··on Inside the Largest US Voter Data Leak
>The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) maintains information on approximately 32 million vehicles/vessels registration (VR), 27 million driver licenses (DL) and/or identification (ID) cards, and over 437,000 occupational licensing (OL) records.

This includes certain DMV personnel matters, physical/mental information, residence address, social security number (SSN), incomplete findings from research, results of ongoing investigations, operation plans, and electronic data security controls.

Sure, I'd be happy to help. On viewing the html, I'm not sure what software stack you're using, but maybe check out the riko[1] library, which was recommended in a parent comment.

Yo, good stuff on the added features. I'm currently using Huginn to scrape data, use a portion of that data to format a post request, and then combine the results of the post request with the scraped data, finally output as rss. Maybe some features to consider: ability to format get/post/put/delete request, ability to correctly (in order) merge objects (I haven't had the chance to try out your merge block yet). The merge, in my opinion, would be the biggest consideration as I have to use a custom agent to merge my Huginn events, and it's really a pain. Great start to the service man, keep up the good work!

edit: I just tried the download agent on a site (http://www.plndr.com) and it's throwing parse errors, and clicking the [x] won't close the output box, but the red portion works.

Hey, just saw your comment. Looks like a pretty slick library; would something like this run in a jupyter/azure notebook?
Toast_··on Coal plants emit more radioactive waste than nuclear plants (2007)
>oh and storing the waste in effective perpetuity

The only reason we aren't upcycling the 'waste' is because of an order issued by Jimmy Carter to prohibit the proliferation of Plutonium; we could be using it as fuel in other reactors.

>I remember yahoo pipes supported it, that's a plus.

Yup, pretty much why I used pipes to begin with. I think being able to scrape/manipulate/output data, while being able to keep it private, would be a fantastic service. Looks good so far!

It's crazy to think about how many radioactive sources we come into contact on a day-to-day basis. I mean, thorium toothpaste was a thing.
