TechnicolorByte··on Ask HN: How to deal with markets down turn? Feeling down
Can you expand on this? What do you mean when you say that the cost of capital will triple over the next decade?
TechnicolorByte··on Post-pandemic, the battle between Uber and Lyft is looking more one-sided
Exact opposite ime in SFBA. Lyft’s estimated pickup times are always off for me and price can be comparable to sometime higher than Uber.
TechnicolorByte··on Nvidia in the Valley
It’s a very good summary. Nvidia to me gets a lot of flak (sometimes rightfully so) in large part to being the big risk-taker in the GPU/graphics/AI space that pushes forward industry trends. AMD, meanwhile, is largely a follower in the GPU/graphics space with few contributions to rendering research. Even worse, they even use their marketing to angle themselves as consumer-friendly when I reality they’re just playing catch-up. For instance, they started off badmouthing ray-tracing as not being ready back when Turing launched (when is any new paradigm ever “ready” when it requires developers to adapt?) before adopting it with much worse performance the following generation.
TechnicolorByte··on Japan to reopen to independent travelers and lift daily arrival cap
Those two rural/small town walks you mentioned: can they be accessed without driving?
TechnicolorByte··on Why 30 FPS on Console feels smoother and better than 30 FPS on PC [video]
TL;DR

3 main reasons are:

1. Motion blur is heavily used on consoles. While PC games have this option, it’s typically not used since PC gamers sit much closer to the screen compared to console gamers (monitor vs TV), which can cause an uncomfortable and dizzying experience.

2. Input lag of controllers tends to be higher than for gaming mice.

3. Frametime on PC can be less stable (microstutters) due to the large variation in parts of a PC build (can have bottlenecks in storage, GPU, CPU, etc.). Consoles are built with the same components and as a result have a more consistent frametime.

TechnicolorByte··on Steam Hardware and Software Survey: August 2022
Doesn’t seem like there are any notable new trends the last few months: Nvidia still dominates GPUs and AMD has slowly gained a full one-third market share of CPUs. Based on product roadmaps and rumors from the big three (Intel, AMD, Nvidia) none of these trends are likely to change with Intel still somewhat fumbling CPU roadmap and utterly failing on their GPU desires (with a rumored end to their consumer GPU business following shortly [1]). The only noteworthy trend is that the portion of 8-core CPUs is going up.
