TechDebtDevin··on End well, this won't: UK commissioner suggests govt stops kids from using VPNs
I'm never visiting the UK again. No love lost tbh.

What did those CD's actually contain? A browser with some firmware?
TechDebtDevin··on My Lethal Trifecta talk at the Bay Area AI Security Meetup
All of my MCPs, including browser automation, are very much deterministic. My backend provides a very limited amount of options. Say for doing my Amazon shopping, it is fed the top 10 options per search query, and can only put one in a cart. Then email me when its done for review, it can't actually control the browser fully.

Essentially I provide a very limited (but powerful) interactive menu for every MCP response, it can only respond with the Index of the menu choice, one number, it works really well at preventing scary things (which I've experienced) search queries with some parsing, but must fit in a given sites url pattern, also containerization ofc.

You're talking about getting in a car and driving to a specialized grocery store to "save money". I'm saying you could also just by produce and save money.
TechDebtDevin··on GPT-5 for Developers
Waitig 30-45 minutes for code, that you're still going to have to read from top to bottom to make sure it doesn't have anything dumb in it, does not seem like a productivity enhancement. I would quit If I was an engineer and told to do this.

TechDebtDevin··on Emailing a one-time code is worse than passwords
I haven't been able to get into my Oracle (free) account for 2 years because I lost 2fa... Unless I start needing to pay them for something, they'll probably never answer my emails. There are consequences for losing your phone when using alternative authentication methods (be careful).
TechDebtDevin··on An LLM does not need to understand MCP
MCP that you pay $10.00 a month too and it enables an LLM to do all your Amazon shopping with ease? This is far out, and I'm not convinced it will be MCP that corners this.
TechDebtDevin··on An LLM does not need to understand MCP
MCP seems just like a rushed concept that Anthropic shoved out there just so they could own the standard. I've been working with it a lot lately, in Go with mcp-go[0]. Very un-intuitive at first, and I constantly ask myself why I wouldn't just write this in my own way, but admittedly it can be fun.

Something like https://github.com/simonw/llm seems way more intuitive (to me)

TechDebtDevin··on A new database on police use of force and misconduct in California
I'm all for this, but we need a different type of person to be a cop ultimately. A lot of cops see something like this and just stop doing there job altogether. I frequently ask cops in my city wtf they're doing when parked next to 20 people doing meth and they blame the democratic mayor almost every time.
TechDebtDevin··on Perplexity is using stealth, undeclared crawlers to evade no-crawl directives
I wonder if crawlers started letting ads through, and interacting with them a bit, if these complaints would go away. If we can just shaft the advertisers, maybe that will solve the whole problem :)

TechDebtDevin··on Perplexity is using stealth, undeclared crawlers to evade no-crawl directives
Not according to CF. They are desperate to turn web sites into newspaper dispensers, where you should give them a quarter to see the content, on the basis that a bot is somehow different than a normal human vistor o a legal basis. Cf has been trying this psyop for years.
TechDebtDevin··on Perplexity is using stealth, undeclared crawlers to evade no-crawl directives
Cloudflare screaming into the void desperate to insert themselves as a middleman, in a market ( that they will never succeed in creating) where they extort scrapers for access to websites they cover.

Sorry CF, give up. the courts are on our sides here

TechDebtDevin··on Helsinki records zero traffic deaths for full year
Thanks for the clarification. It was really a delight being there. I would go back in a heartbeat given the oppprtunity.

I think that I when I'm old I will look back at my time in Norway as one of the most pleasent periods of my life :)

TechDebtDevin··on Helsinki records zero traffic deaths for full year
I lived in Norway for a few years, and something I thought was interesting is everyone who went on a walk would wear a hi-viz vest/arm band.

The kindergartners were cute, they'd all where hi viz overalls on their afternoon walks and be tied together like sled dogs.

Another thing in Norway, at least in the town I was in, it was almost a guarantee that you'd be breathalyzed on a early saturday/sunday morning if you were driving and leaving main arteries of the town.

And I was told even if you were .02 you'd lose your license for a year, and 10% of you salary as a fine. This is only one drink. Many Norwegians would drink NA beer at lunch because of this (get wildly drunk once home in the evening). Think of how easy it would be to stop drinking at 2-4am and sleep until 10am to go to breakfast, and still be at .02. They take it really seriously.

While I was there also, the cops only fired a gun once the entire two years (for the whole country).

People say Norway is able to have a society like this because of their size. I disagree, its definitely cultural (they were mostly egalitarian up until this last century) and has nothing to do with size.

Another weird thing, in the town I was in you couldn't mow your lawn on Sundays, or do anything that was super loud. This town was very Christain, but throughout the whole country they took their rest on the weekends extremely seriously, annoyingly so.

TechDebtDevin··on Tokens are getting more expensive
$20.00 via Deepseek's api (Yes China, can have my code idc), has lasted me almost a year. Its slow, but better quality output than any of the independently hosted Deepseek models (ime). I don't really use agents or anything tho.

TechDebtDevin··on 4k NASA employees opt to leave agency through deferred resignation program
I think that's what this is, the 4k people in NASA probably never would have quit (great benefits or whatever), maybe the strategist at the top (whether they are right or not) think its better for this talent to be concentrated at private firms? And tbf, the private sector does move fast :/
