Tangokat··on Ask HN: TrueCrypt audit status?
The EFF seems to recommend using DiskCryptor for Windows [1]. What are HN's opinions on this?

Also what does HN think about still using TrueCrypt? Any reason not to?

Tangokat··on Why Privacy Matters Even If You Have 'Nothing to Hide' (2011)
I really like Moxie Marlinspike's Wired article on this [1]. Especially relevant to those of you in the US.

Tangokat··on Ask HN: What are your predictions for 2015?
1. Tensions rise and the west and the east continue to grow further apart.

2. More hacking scandals come to light and they are used as cover to restrict privacy and empower the intelligence community.

3. The world will continue to do close to nothing about the environment.

4. More steps are taken to protect children online from piracy, porn and controversial opinions.

5. A major critical vulnerability will be exposed in Tor.

6. Magic Leap will turn out to be a massive.. leap forward in technology.

7. Consumer VR will take the world by storm.

8. All the new encrypted email alternatives will fail.

9. eSports will continue to grow and the League of Legends Worlds final will have over 20 million concurrent viewers.

10. An application of AI will blow everyone away.

Tangokat··on Ten Years of World of Warcraft
If you want to see what battles are like you should watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdfFnTt2UT0

It is a new trailer CCP (makers of Eve) made with real player communication.

Tangokat··on How Magic Leap Is Creating an Alternate Reality
Pretty interesting quotes from a guy like Brian Cox:

"It's the premiere of a technology that allows you to put digital images into your field of vision directly," he said. "I saw the prototype in Miami a few months ago and it's stunning."

"It is going to be transformative technology, there's no doubt about that."

The experience will "disturb" audiences and put them "off balance", he predicted. "That's what it did when I saw it demonstrated."

The article also says that a demonstration will be made as a part of the Manchester International Festival next July.

Tangokat··on How Magic Leap Is Creating an Alternate Reality
I agree with this. On top of already doing unbelivable disruptive technology they are also doing several video games, feature films and "being in the same room as your favorite band" content?

Trying to do everything themselves seems overly ambitious. Then again I doubt they get funding like this without something provably awesome and a solid plan to move forward.

Tangokat··on Google Glass future clouded as some early believers lose faith
For consumers the device is not ready but I would wager that a fair amount of value could be gained from using it in an enterprise context. All sorts of jobs get easier if you have access to data hands free - surgeons being the most obvious case.
Tangokat··on Show HN: Point – a Chrome plugin for private sharing and discussion on any website
Was using DA. The shortcut would be Alt Gr + 2 (so the right side alt key).
Tangokat··on Bitcoin over Tor isn't a good idea
So what are the choices for people in oppressed countries? Use an altcoin or just hope that nobody implements this attack?
Tangokat··on Show HN: Point – a Chrome plugin for private sharing and discussion on any website
Note that for people without American layout on their keyboard the shift + 2 will not work. I had to set my keyboard layout to American for it to work - you should probably fix that.

Edit: Came off a little hostile, I like the idea otherwise and may try to convince my friends to use it.

Tangokat··on U.S. Government vs. Hackers
The US prison system is completely insane whether you are a hacker or not. It is baffling to me why you would want to send non-violent criminals to prison with hardened criminals in the first place, the rehabilitation is likely to be higher (and cheaper) with something like an ankle bracelet. Also an interesting idea to have hackers teaching hardcore criminials about OPSEC. Although you could make the argument that the hackers who get caught aren't usually very good at OPSEC to begin with - I suspect that they are learning though, even the Grugq has a video about it [1].

Tangokat··on Recovering Evidence from SSD Drives in 2014
I wonder if there is an opportunity for the sellers of these SSDs to use privacy as a USP. "With this SSD, once you delete data it is gone and not even the NSA can find it again"
Tangokat··on A message from Tim Cook about Apple’s commitment to your privacy
Pretty interesting - this must have changed in iOS 8. At least according to Jonathan Zdziarski Apple previously had the ability to bypass the iPhone encryption for law enforcement if the phone was physically sent to Apple [1].

Tangokat··on A message from Tim Cook about Apple’s commitment to your privacy
As much as I like this message. I just don't believe him. We KNOW the US government will issue a gag order and not allow him or anyone else to speak about what they recieve.

The only way to be sure is to provide the source and allow people to complile it themselves, which is just never happening.

Tangokat··on Transmitting binary information from one person’s brain to another
"Finally, we anticipate that computers in the not-so-distant future will interact directly with the human brain in a fluent manner, supporting both computer- and brain-to-brain communication routinely."

Pretty interesting, history shows that tech gets cheaper and easier over time. If this is also the case here this could change communication as we know it.

By the way, given Newsweeks recent history with the bitcoin Satoshi Nakamoto fiasco maybe just link the original source? It seems to be freely available [1].

Tangokat··on The Surveillance Engine: How the NSA Built Its Own Secret Google
According to the Intercept, the U.S Military has banned employees from visiting First Look because there could be classified information on the site. [1] [2] (extra source since you can't see the real one..)

Maybe that is what you are experiencing?

Tangokat··on Peter Sunde arrested in Sweden
As I understand it, the evidence is a chatlog and an encrypted container. The police have had a hard time proving that he was one of the people in the chat. The encrypted container, which the police somehow broke (wonder how they did that), had data from the Danish hack and private documents which doesn't look too good. Also he avoided a sentence for hacking into Nordea in Sweden by claiming that his computer was remote controlled and they couldn't prove that it was not.

I'd say it looks fairly likely that he had something to do with these crimes. Also I wouldn't say they have no evidence just that they probably don't have enough to convict. The arguments for continuing to hold him are pretty thin. He already had unsupervised meetings with family and friends so holding him because they are afraid of evidence tampering seems questionable.
