Thing is. If the app stores do not do anything about it. The only way to do something for it is to do it yourself and stop complaining about lack of customer support support.
This script should work with any system that has curl with some little modifications, but I've only tested it in fedora 15. You can find it from codepad and the script will run over all ports if the port range has not been specified.
The first terminal argument will be the range start and second argument will be the range end. For example: php port_test.php 1 24 will run the test on ports 1-24
The price of 50GB storage is not free, it does cost but only about 3 Dollars according to the first 1TB hard drive which came up from DuckDuckGo. In this 1TB hard drive you can store 50GB partitions for 20 users. If the hard drive cost's 60 dollars then it's 3 dollars per user. So to say drop box is making about 6 dollars profit from 50GB accounts though the over all profit depends on the amount of free accounts. Box.net took huge risk to steal dropbox users with the free 50GB accounts.
After it's in the amounts of tens of thousands users the 50GB free account is not really a free anymore. The space for 10k users is 500TB and cost is 30,000 dollars.
So it is not free nor unlimited. Get that idea out of your head right away.
One down. You should not be asking the question, "Why do we need the money?" I answered the question in the original blog post. For skills we lack and don't have 10 years to work on.
Two down. Why would I at this point start telling about my or his possibly epicly stupid ideas. Of course in the case if we actually do fund our first commercial project with crowd funding we will have to tell about the project and why the people should donate to us or invest in us.
I agree that ideas do not count for zip if the execution fails. Startup is a fresh business in phase of development and research for markets. Yes finding scaling business model is nice, but still the product is part of the startup too or you do not have anything to sell.
I know we could go the way of hacking code all night and day until we have something to show. Maybe uglier blocks than Minecraft has with barely no textures.
I was not asking you to give me money now. I was asking if we should go the way of crowd funding or find other ways to generate that cash by part-time working, etc.
You kinda missed the point of the blog post where I mentioned about the 3D sandbox project. Over Design, being over my head, etc.. It's experience which I won't fall into that easily again.
First you have to create registration form and function to save the data into the database. Remember to check for injections and remember to hash the password.
Next you have to create login form and function to query the password with the username, then hash the password used in the login and check if the two hashes match. Then you create session cookie for the user.
This session cookie should have random hash which is regenerated always when the hash is checked ("Logged user updates the page"). Remember to check that the database does not have identical random hash when you generate new hash, if you take care of that then there wont be authentication collision happening, because this random hash will be used to "login" the user on every page after the user has logged in with his password.
Remember to store the random hash in the database and in the cookie and check that they match on every page load. If the cookie does not exist redirect the user back to login page.
Logout can just be handled by deleting the session cookie and the random hash from the database.
Wola! You have functional login script. Remember to check for injections everywhere!
Though if you do use those tools, your twitter stream will be full of stuff you really might not want to read.
I need some advice. I am 21 and I'm studying IT Engineering at university at the moment, my second year is starting. Though before university I completed Information Technology 3 years vocational school and even before that I had been learning about technology and programming since I have been a kid. I went through the vocational school even though I knew most of the stuff before hand. Now the same thing is happening in the university. Though the laboratories are nice. I have three years left to study there for my bachelors degree.
What I really want to do is start earning money from my programming abilities, but I don't have the money to start limited company and I don't want to start the personal business thing, because liability things. I've been trying to look for programming work locally here in Finland and there does not seem to be any close to me and I don't want to stop my university to move ~200 kilometers for work. I've been trying to look remote jobs, but can't find them.
So what should I do? Try still to get some work and while not finding any work, work on my portfolio. Another option is to focus fully on the school and live with 20 euros a week for my pack of cigarettes and food.

Thanks already and sorry if this is late for your session. :P
