TIPSIO··on Gemini 2.0: our new AI model for the agentic era
Yes. Imagine Google banning your entire Google account / Gmail because you violated their gray area AI terms ([1] or [2]). Or, one of your users did via an app you made using an API key and their models.

With that being said, I am extremely bullish on Google AI for a long time. I imagine they land at being the best and cheapest for the foreseeable future.

You’re right. It’s cumbersome. And this will change.

I actually spooked for launch and dialed things down.

The idea was for a user to skip the interface and just type a subdomain to get started: <whatever>.tips.io

All sites would start in a playground mode where no signup is required to get going.

But it would be timed and if you didn’t add an email progress would be lost and the site would self-delete.

For launch, I limited it to basically zero to work out bugs and spam. I will be reversing this but open to ideas to balance onboarding.

Actually great feedback and finds
TIPSIO··on Show HN: Tips.io – A Tailwind playground with AI, page management, and theming
Try it. It mostly works but I think the way they manage memory is different or something complicated. We're essentially just constantly hammering an iframe for the preview. In early tests, I kept getting issues with it. I want to revisit in time and optimize that whole thing.

I killed it off right before launch actually. I got spooked by potential spam. I think you're right this is the move after I get through some launch stuff.
TIPSIO··on Show HN: Tips.io – A Tailwind playground with AI, page management, and theming
Super true. I know... I bought this domain a long time ago for another project that never launched and swore to use it one day. It's a short .io that is easy to remember. I agree it does not match well

You seeing downtime errors? The platform is 100% serverless in Cloudflare Workers, so fortunately mostly hug proof

You can already backup your site as either static files or the original "tipsio" files.

Imagine coming back to the site and there being 30+ free themes for various websites and uses.

The people who benefit most would be:

- I can't dev websites => Go to Squarespace

- I dev tiny bit of websites/or smart enough to figure stuff out => Tips.io

- I am a dev => Go custom

Thank you so much. Please just make a free site and add your email with notifications enabled or signup for the newsletter. I'll be posting some pretty detailed and mind-blowing updates soon

Yep. I also own tipsio.com but I figure for remembrance/launch reasons it's not super big deal right now. SEO play has not happened yet.
TIPSIO··on Show HN: Tips.io – A Tailwind playground with AI, page management, and theming
Haha, thanks so much! It did get a bit feature rich and has sat around forever as it wasn't my main source/priority for income.

Anyone who needs a site!

Big winners right now are developers or low-code (just HTML...) people who need:

- want to just pick a site, tweak, and go

- people who want an easy and free link tree or carrd.co style site without limitations

- splash pages, 1 pagers, microsites, coming soon pages, blogs/profile with full HTML, etc...

- people/orgs who need to do high volume sites

Thanks! It's been a fun side hobby project for me. I typically crank out contract work day in and day out.

I got the proof of concept done in a month or so. It took a little longer since I wanted to build it on 100% Cloudflare Workers for ideally low cost, scale, and speed. Other low-pressure things I was trying too.

It has sat around for almost a 1/2 year now unlaunched where I have just added small features here and there.

Over the next few months, I plan to release a ridiculous amount of high quality Tailwind themes for people to start from amongst some other marketing efforts.

Yep, chose not to reply.

Thanks Ryan. Great question. It's more of "build a full site via small Tailwind playgrounds". I chose that language to best describe quickly the idea. Hope that helps clarify
TIPSIO··on M4 MacBook Pro
The keyboard touch button (top right) is objectively hideous and looks cheap. My current TouchBar may be useless but at least looks nice.
TIPSIO··on M4 MacBook Pro
These chips are incredible. Even my M1 MBP from 2020 still feels so ridiculously fast for everyday basic use and coding.

Is an upgrade really worth it?

TIPSIO··on So long WordPress
Usually it comes down:

- easy client login for template tweaks, uploads, and redirects

- forms

- extremely minor server-side functionality thing

WordPress is perfect for this.

TIPSIO··on Ask HN: What's Wrong with WordPress?
To be honest I think comments as a pro is the worst possible example in modern times. I am (unfortunately?) fairly industry.

Pretty marketing sites that look fancy is what WordPress primarily is used for and expected.

“Hey devs and designers make me something better than Squarespace but give me edit access.”

Comments and everything possible disabled. The point of value for organizations really is that it is self-host and self-updating. Essentially simple portable auth with easy template system.

My opinions:

There might be a valid trademark dispute or legitimate concerns about WPEngine not contributing enough to open source. Or, maybe it’s simply about money and WordPress.com dropping the ball for the last decade. Ask yourself, what do you really think this is about?

The truth is, no one in the industry takes WordPress.com seriously for professional sites, and likely never will. It's often seen as a platform for simple blogs or taking advantage of users who don't know better where to go.

Agencies and developers, for instance, prefer to build custom sites using WordPress.org and then either self-hosting or go with WPEngine.

From the beginning, WPEngine has offered essential features like server-side backup snapshots (not relying on subpar plugins), along with Git, SFTP, and database access. In contrast, WordPress.com only introduced similar features relatively recently it seems.

The WordPress.com service has always completely missed the mark for what hardcore WordPress people want, and it’s comically essentially trying to finally now become what WPEngine offers today.

Meanwhile, WordPress.org has always been a bit of a mess for organizations to host, and WPEngine provided super peace of mind by solving those pain points. Literally the main reason for WPEngine's success is because of broken .org updates and easy backups - not tricked/confused developers. The irony is epic.

As for the trademark issues, maybe there's some truth over usage. But who’s really responsible for the fact that WordPress.org sites and people aren't opting for WordPress.com?

People don't go there not because they're confused but because it's just a deficient offering. Completely asleep at the wheel for the last 10 years.

TIPSIO··on Cloudflare Introduces Speed Brain to Instantly Make Web Pages 45% Faster
One of the rules to ensure it works:

> The page requested by the prefetch does not invoke a Worker.

I guess this restriction kind of makes sense for this?

Funny enough though, some of the best speed optimization Cloudflare stuff only works with Workers if you use a Fetch (aka, you must have an origin!).

The Worker Cache API for example doesn't support Polish/Mirage or many other Cloudflare features.

TIPSIO··on Two new Gemini models, reduced 1.5 Pro pricing, increased rate limits, and more
I do like the trend.

Imagine if Anthropic or someone eventually release a Claude 3.5 but at like a whopping 10x its current speed.

Would be incredibly more useful and game changing than a slow o1 model that may or not be x percent smarter.

TIPSIO··on Anthropic's Prompt Engineering Interactive Tutorial
Yep.

With Claude - “Figure out what is going on here/do you see why I’m trying to do…”

With OpenAI - Sometimes being crazy detailed is the only way I can get it to compete

TIPSIO··on Zed AI
Are you talking specifically about the general UX? On initial glance it does look a little like there is a bit more of a learning curve to navigate.
TIPSIO··on Show HN: I Made a Simple Tailwind CSS Quiz Game
Awesome! Suggestion and maybe you can make this quick:

If an answer is right don't make me click "next" just go to next question. Will be ay more fun.

TIPSIO··on Large Enough
Have you (or anyone) swapped on Cursor with Anthropic API Key?

For coding assistant, it's on my to do list to try. Cursor needs some serious work on model selection clarity though so I keep putting off.

TIPSIO··on Large Enough
This race for the top model is getting wild. Everyone is claiming to one-up each with every version.

My experience (benchmarks aside) Claude 3.5 Sonnet absolutely blows everything away.

I'm not really sure how to even test/use Mistral or Llama for everyday use though.

TIPSIO··on Apple, Nvidia, Anthropic Used Swiped YouTube Videos to Train AI
I imagine data laundering (?) is common.

E.g.: Nike needs to produce a large amount of clothes. They hire an oversea company who commits to the order. They set strict rules -- no child labor, certain quality controls, etc... This company then subcontracts anyway possible and delivers the order, gets paid, and dissolves. Messy but Nike's hands are clean.

With AI, same thing but with videos and other forms of data.

Hence why a question "did you train with Youtube?" to a certain CTO is so difficult to answer.

TIPSIO··on HTML Tags Memory Test
In HS we were learning basic HTML and I did not care at all at the time.

The teacher had us build a page with like 10 tags or something. I thought I was clever and quickly wrote out:

h1 h2 h3 h4 h5 h6 h7 h8 h9 h10

Needless to say he told me to figure out why I needed to redo it.
