I have a similar work flow to yours and I experience many of the same problems you do with DVCS. I'm currently thinking about just using rsync to keep my development environments the same. I haven't made this move yet but, I can't think why I couldn't.

I'm curious why no one is asking if this is hacker related news? An article like this seems very similar to the article posted about Obama winning the Democratic nomination and that posting received a significant amount of criticism.

Is it that the effort expended ranting in the comments of the Obama article has exhausted you? Is it that you haven't seen this news covered by as many news sources? Or, do you genuinely find this information different than that of Obama's nomination?

Pardon the brevity of my previous post. I'm sorry if it appears that I'm arguing for it's own sake. I only meant to indicate that we currently have an implemented definition of "better" between posts--the HN ranking algorithm. I believe that the burden of proof belongs to the party challenging the status quo to provide an alternative and then argue why the alternative is indeed the preferred system.

During the debate over which ranking algorithm/definition is better where I believe the Luttgenstein/Chmosky argument is most applicable because we don't have a clearly agreed upon definition of what a better ranking algorithm is. However, until an alternative is provided, we cannot possibly reach and/or explore these semantic differences.

You didn't provide a definition of better.

I then argue that "better" as defined by the HN heuristic is exactly defined as an article with more points.

Even without the ability to downvote, doesn't the position of the article indicate that there isn't a better article?

There was almost no information related to Provigil in that article. Sure, we got the standard, "Drugs are bad. Mmmmm...K?" But, that's just more noise. Why is is so hard to get signal on this topic?

Besides, I think that it's clear that the brain is a complicated and intricate combination of chemical reactions. I hardly believe that it can be considered balanced. Humankind has been self medicating with alcohol for centuries and the recent uptick in SSRI indicates that our brains may not not in fact be balanced (relative to the world we currently live in).

But, we're hackers; exploring new systems is what we do.
