Symbiote··on P99 0 ms* autocomplete for 240M domain names
It doesn't work correctly with third level domains.

speedtest.me.uk exists, but typing speedtest.me does not suggest it, and speedtest.me.u suggests speedtest.me.us first (doesn't exist).

(.me.uk is a second level domain category in .uk, intended for personal domains.)

Symbiote··on 'Breakthrough' as Turkmenistan starts fixing 'mindboggling' methane mega-leaks
There is a live map at https://methanedata.unep.org/map

I wonder if any political or protest effort can put pressure on the companies in the USA who are ignoring the leaks?

Symbiote··on Transfer files over an Ethernet patch cable
Mine were mixed colours, the cable was grey but the "boot" and connector were black.
Symbiote··on Google: Lake Ontario/Lake America name change in the U.S. will appear in Maps
That's what I see from Denmark.
Symbiote··on Creepy Crawlies
It's a childish word for an insect.
Symbiote··on Europe's summer drought is so extreme that desertification is a growing threat
Voted for the environmental candidate every time.
Symbiote··on Creepy Crawlies
Meta is an exception. They intentionally ignore robots.txt rules.

(No second chances, I blocked their whole IP range.)

Symbiote··on Creepy Crawlies
Against what person or entity?
Symbiote··on Iceland votes on whether to restart talks on joining EU
The UK chose that approach, not the EU.
Symbiote··on Iceland votes on whether to restart talks on joining EU
The page you cite says it was due to the threat of Iceland leaving NATO etc.
Symbiote··on ICANN de-accredits "bulletproof" domain registrar Trustname
I found this site which claims (AI generated) to have analysed the domains they are registrar for: https://phishdestroy.github.io/trustname-evidence/

> Registrars are not passive infrastructure. They are the first and only chokepoint that can kill a fraud domain in 24 hours — no court order required.

Whatever happened to due process?

Symbiote··on You Know GDPR Is Good Based on Who Hates It
My employer's site has no banners, since we decided not to use any tracking.

We measure our success based on enquiries, orders and so on, not the number of hits to the website.

Symbiote··on Interactive Warhammer 40k Galaxy Map
Some friends, and possibly a local metal bar, were referring to Easter as Zombie Jesus Day.

Why would atheists be offended?

Symbiote··on U.S. sanctions against the A/I Collective
The British case was overturned on appeal. (Crazy that it had to go that far though.)

I can't find much left or right coverage of it, there's so much news coverage in the way.

Symbiote··on Stripe said to abandon $50B pursuit of PayPal
The equivalent in Britain would be a Switch card in the 1990s, the UK's native debit card system.

Symbiote··on Stripe said to abandon $50B pursuit of PayPal
A Giro card is a debit card.
Symbiote··on Stripe said to abandon $50B pursuit of PayPal
I understood it.

The bar with the privacy principle didn't accept cards, and had a sign to that effect on the bar.

Symbiote··on Stripe said to abandon $50B pursuit of PayPal
IBAN is less adopted than I expected -- Europe, the Middle East and progressing in Africa, plus a few others.

Symbiote··on Stripe said to abandon $50B pursuit of PayPal
I have an account in Denmark which charges for outgoing transactions, 3 DKK. (€0.40.)

I think I have the choice to pay a monthly fee, nominate it as my official account for receiving my salary, or pay for the transactions.

I choose the last option as it's a backup account, and I make perhaps 1 transaction per year.

Symbiote··on Stripe said to abandon $50B pursuit of PayPal
What about a principled stance that a payment should remain anonymous, without being logged by a domestic bank, let alone a foreign company.

I used to go to a bar in Copenhagen with that principle.

Symbiote··on My Business Is Dying
I assume it means converting PDFs transaction statements provided by banks into spreadsheets which accounting software can import.
Symbiote··on Suica, Japan's First IC Transit Card
Correct, Suica is faster than Oyster (card), which is faster than paying with bank cards or phones in London.

(I haven't used the NYC system.)

Symbiote··on Worst-case glacial lake flood scenarios in a transboundary Himalayan basin 2022
Some scientists, amplified by journalists. Other scientists at the time were predicting warming.

Symbiote··on France reaches 94.9% fiber coverage in 2026
Clearly, yes. Unless you're claiming your personal experience invalidates a long running, well regarded statistical analysis.
Symbiote··on Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B
> billionaires and centi millionaires

I think you mean hecto-millionaires.

Symbiote··on An ongoing 3D-printer AGPL violation
Prusa's printers also worked out of the box. They cost slightly more, and their staff aren't volunteers.
Symbiote··on France reaches 94.9% fiber coverage in 2026
Average speeds are higher in the UK than Italy.

My brother in the UK has 1Gb/s fibre in a village of less than 100.

Symbiote··on How credit card rewards became a $9.2B wealth transfer
In Denmark many retailers pass on the charge for business cards. For example it's often printed on the bottom of a restaurant menu.
Symbiote··on How credit card rewards became a $9.2B wealth transfer
In Copenhagen mine is billed individually, and is 75kr for 1Gb/s. About $10.

Otherwise the same system.
